  • Here we go! This is the first leg of a series of flights that will circumnavigate the globe in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We'll take different aircraft for each leg, and I'll write up blog posts to go with each leg - with flight plans, pictures, and so on. The blog lives at jonbeckett.sub....
For the first leg we're departing Oxford airport, England, and VOR hopping all the way to Frankfurt in Germany. I'll be recording the "round the world" legs in Volanta (I'm "jonbeckett" in Volanta).

The TBM 850 is one of my favorite aircraft to fly. Appreciate the video. Outstanding as always

I just started a flight from Boeing field to the southern tip of South America. I started with the Beech 18. I’m going to fly the TBM on one or more of the legs.

Jon, you can torque above 100% if you use the additional flap setting without damaging the engine. Once you click it you can see the limits you can go to on the torque meter.

Apologies if you've already covered this but I'm still watching the video and am only about half way there.

@@andrewphiliprotchell It's a fair remark. The 850 in TBM850 states that the engine produces 850hp. 850 mode is usually enabled during climb by moving the flaps switch a step up. You can then increase the torque to 120%. The reason this is done this way is to retain the same aircraft rating as aircraft is upgraded - the rating is only approved for takeoff and landing with the engine in it's base engine "tune".

The river that flows past your former office is pronounced "mine" as in "yours and mine". Strictly speaking, the city's name is Frankfurt am Main (Frankfurt on the Main - there's more than one Frankfurt in Germany). Koblenz is pronounced "koh-BLENTS" (accent on the second syllable - typical German pronunciation rule). As Chattanooga pointed out, south of Koblenz there's the Lorely, but there are also several castles including the Mäuseturm (Mouse Tower) in the middle of the river and the vinyards lining the banks of the Rhine - better to have stayed with the Rhine to Mainz and Wiesbaden. Or flown over my wife's home town if you'd used the Taunus waypoint.

High rpm causes drag as the faster rpm causes more of a wall of air the plane has to fly through

Would be nice to see a leg in the SWS PC-12. Superficially they're similar planes (low wing single PT-6) and I've seen plenty of people asking which one they should get. They're actually very different, but it would be a fun comparison. Also, any landing you can be personally sued for was a good one :)

You should be able to create user waypoints on the GTN750 to, maybe not as fun but you able to add altitudes too.

I dont fly this plane nearly as often as I should. Its one of my absolute favorites for GA. I fly airliners nearly all the time though.

Why is the photogrammetry so dull and gray, it reminds me of a post apocalyptic world.
If you open google maps in 3D its much more colourful and bright.
Lets hope they do something about it in MSFS 24.
Enjoying your streams and learning a lot, Thanks Jonathan

They did the same thing with Burbank Airport in Los Angeles. It’s now “Hollywood Burbank Airport”. 🤦‍♂️
