This worries me as a monetized Twitch DJ. I've read through this thoroughly multiple times and it's vague. I have issues with all the word-salad they have in it. Here's my concerns. DJ "opt-in" program: Opting In declares your account as a DJ stream only account. That account can no longer stream any other content. Now, why would that matter? Once opted-in a % of ALL revenue gained on that account will be shared with the record labels. This is why Twitch is insisting that DJs only play music from their newly negotiated "music catalog". Why else would it matter what is streamed from an "Opt-In" DJ account? The vast "Music Catalog": where is it? I don't play music from a mainstream genre, what then? Hope I don't get a dmca strike? Demonetize? Twitch needs to go into detail on this. The sooner the better. Can't play "unreleased" tracks: Can we play bootlegs, unofficial remixes, or unsigned tracks? So many questions need to be answered. This didn't even cover the revenue sharing or subsidy. Twitch made this announcement June 6th and then went silent with no followup. That is concerning as well. Sorry for the rant, just a DJs perspective. ❤❤
oh I really like your idea on having some buttons up top to help filter the music category. Does seem weird for them to have the DJ category separate from music
I'm new to all of this. I already compensated all the artist, record labels, EVERYONE buy legally purchasing all my music.I understand that platforms like Twitch, RUclips wants their cut but why I'm paying AGAIN the artist, record labels, EVERYONE by playing my legally owned music???
The question here is: What about streamers who split audio from the VOD so they can play music when they live streaming? Will the Twitch bots track it now, like how RUclips does?
you can't it's forbidden instead twitch will supposedly become your agent and monetize you without paying you or anything No VODs, Clips, or Highlights DJs opted into the program will not be able to save VODs, Clips, or Highlights to Twitch. VODs, Clips and Highlights involve different rights than live streams. We are creating additional promotional and discovery opportunities to extend the reach and impact of DJ content.
@fredEVOIX for DJs I can see why, but for gamers, playing music in the background is still unclear. OBS has a built-in Twitch VOD track feature that will make it so that the select audio feeds will be unheard of in the VOD. Twitch hasn't even commented on the matter if it will be demonetized. I don't DJ and the same with other variety streamers, and we can't be a part of the DJ program that requires us to actually make money just so we can play music in the background. Twitch will eventually clarify if it's okay or not, but then the OBS Twitch track feature will be unnecessary.
All great points covered here. I was relatively excited when I saw that Twitch was investing in this. However, finances and Twitch have always been a topsy turvy game to traverse for growing streamers. The Ad share is where the line is drawn for me. I can wrap my head around dividing the Ad share up, just because somebody (Corporate Music license overlords) has to profit from it's use. That's it though. As long as the music isn't being presented in a false or fraudulent aspect, I fail to see why they should dip into Subs and Bits even. Twitch clearly trying to deal the middle ground on behalf FOR the companies where as user privilege is just that. I wonder what their ROI is in this investment. Once again, @Lowcow made a decent point with it being "Niche", even more so when Twitch itself is Niche( as a majority of viewers are there for a specific Streamer or entertainer). I mean something like this won't hold water unless they develop a way to make the overall experience of DJ'ing on twitch more tantalizing than any other platform and the way they do things.
def not I just read the terms not as a pro dj but simply an amateur dj/viewer and it mentions you are forbidden to multicast or save anything you do on twitch case in point they specifally mention no vod no clips no nothing that live will be gone, they also already started to demand certain things for you "you must shake your a" so basically they want to become cable tv except respecting zero laws or regulations and well you'll be working making content for them almost like free labor while also being tracked and surveilled by rights holder
Question. I purchase my mp4 (music videos) from Xtendamix. As a Xtendamix subscriber, does that pacify Twitch's requirements of "written permission" to play music videos?
no they do not care you are supposed to check pre-stream all the tracks yourself I read the terms and program briefly and all I see is slavery they want your to work for free change the terms whenever they want and track and snitch on you also forbid you to share whatever you played there, in short they want to become cable tv respect all the copyrights laws while none of the ones that protects the dj and you'd work for them for free
Also, most underground channels work on promo / pre-release music!! many labels and most artists want other DJs to play there music unreleased music. This whole this is miles away from how dance music works.. We are yet again treating this like the radio in 1965.. total joke!
exactly...I was around the house dj industry during the 90-00s and dj stars played tracks 6 months to 1 year in advance like faithless insomnia I still have many white labels of tracks released the year after I bought them
all erased or striked and not only can they terminate your accound but they will snitch on you for a possible lawsuit I'm not exagerating it's all in their terms
This isn't gonna work out well for proper DJs playing underground music!! As perusal the big labels will get all the money and underground dance music artists will get Sweet FA..

Those of us who play more rare and obscure music are worried.

WHY did I get a Warning that I might get Strikes from Twitch if I Don’t join the Program!?

Regarding the VODS, i saw an interview with the CEO about the DJ program who said that you can clip your VODS and use them elsewhere
