Man, I remember first hearing this. I was 20 years old trying to figure out adulthood all on my own. 11 years later, I appreciate this dong for helping me figure life out. Maybe the most relatable song ever.
The fact that I only see 14 comments on a song like this makes me feel both confused by how many people I know say they love Cole but probably don't even know his best songs, and warm inside because i know my soul was one of the ones to feel attached to music like this
i didnt even realize he recorded this with his raw vocals until he told the story on his inevitable audio series. makes this song even more better and ron gilmore on the keys went hard
I hope this helps. He is speaking out of pure reverence for big baby Jesus. To say that he has “no right” is being incredibly terse. He’s drawing inspiration from arguably the greatest hype man EVER, but at the same time heeding a very clear warning to not lose himself and deteriorate his mind with drugs. It’s 100% a celebration of the life of someone he deeply idolized, but learned to not repeat his mistakes. I mean the guy literally killed himself in front of his firstborn son. I think it’s okay to learn that your heroes weren’t bulletproof, yeah MJ is a dick in real life but you can still learn from him and you definitely shouldn’t shy away from meeting him.
