Thanks for sharing, choosing the right caulk for the job and environment is super important. Keep up the great work as the goal is for us to continue to inspire others!
I am a complete painting novice and have a lot of painting to do interior and exterior. Your videos are incredibly helpful. THANK you so much. You are just wonderful!!
I own my own small business (pest control) and use caulk on a regular basis. I was researching the process of painting my house and ran across this channel and wow I learned so much thank you for this. But this air bubble popping is a pain I think the butt and I think you just saved my crew some head aches !
Hey Chris, elastomeric or urethane caulk is what I use. Drippless caulking gun with a damp rag! Trick is not to cut the tip of the tub to wide. After each bead run a wet finger wiping after each pass. Double caulk on new trim /woodwork. Cheers! The gooseneck guy! 🤟
Dap Dynaflex 230 for interiors and Sashco Big Stretch for Crown Molding as there is always major expansion/contraction here in Chicago with 100 degree variance in temps over the year.
It’s a great caulking been using it for the last ten years , been down here in Maryland for along time. The caulking has a good body to it meaning putting it on and wiping it down it stay on the surface not a lot coming off on finger and that’s more clean work for my guys and not all on your hands. No call backs. All pluses on this product great review.
I was prepared to totally argue after the first sentence. But then I kept reading. You are absolutely correct and in fact it might even make for a longer lasting joint. As long as you don’t use a water based sealant/ caulk on exteriors. Acrylic should never be used in wet locations no matter what they claim. Btw I have been a professional caulker for over 45 years.
In my experience White Lightning original formula all purpose caulk performs best for most applications. Tools cleanly, doesn't set up too fast, minimal shrinkage; all metrics that matter to me.Clean knit rags and a bucket of water.Never used, nor considered, using a sponge in 35 years.
I will have to try to find it, there website didn’t list a where to buy tab I seen. It sounds like a solid product but if I can’t find it local I tend to shy away. Would hate to be in the middle of a project and be short and have to wait in shipping. But the DAP stuff from Lowe’s is pretty rough.
You mentioned both were made by Tower, identified the first product but not the second. What’s the name of the 2nd product by Tower that you used in this video? Thanks.
@PaintLifeTV another issue is old caulk! I grabbed a few tubes of caulking for a job and half of that crap was old and 1 tube out of 5 tubes cracked then splattered in my face! How do you know when the caulking is old???🤔🤔
What do you use to fill cracks on stucco? I use regular caulking then I paint it. And now the cracks are more noticeable with paint.. 😓 what’s your recommendation? Please help
@Paint Life TV it would be great if you could provide an estimated qty of caulk tubes used per job. For example, how much caulk tubes would you typically use on a 2700 house interior? Thanks for the video!
Off topic, but I’m using my first airless sprayer. Graco gun and I’m wondering how you rotate the tip without unscrewing it and screwing it back in? Seems like y’all just turn it and keep spraying. What am I missing?
What are your thoughts on the GE line of caulk? I've used their clear and white Silicone II series for years, seems to work well both inside and out. Curious if you've ever came across them or have experience with them.
For exterior: polyurethane caulk. Loctite makes a good product. For interior: You’re going to think I’m dumb but I use Alex plus by DAP. It has served me well for close to 20 years now. Also, it is “caulk” not “caulking.” Not a big deal but…
“Caulk” is a verb: to stop up and make tight against leakage (something, such as a boat or its seams, the cracks in a window frame, or the joints of a pipe). “Caulking” is a variant verb: to furnish with caulks. So not incorrect to say caulking
I've found that if you put a tube of caulk in the gun before you open it and squeeze the trigger a couple of times, it increases the compression inside the tube and eliminates most of the air bubble problem. That being said, I'd rather just use a better caulk so I'll be looking for Tower in my area. Thanks!
Alex plus is pretty unreliable, sherwin williams quick dry has caused me many problems as well. The bottom plunger of the tube has exploded out a few times

I've been happy with the caulk from Sherwin Williams. I use 950a for interior and shear max for exterior. Thanks for another great video!
SW brand caulking is good stuff
I've started painting I've watched all your videos you have been a big help thank you
"when the caulk spatters in your face, it's very annoying." How did you say that with a straight face?? 😂
Finally a video that answers all my questions!!!! ❤
I find taping the tube of caulk to the caulk gun really increases control
Thanks Chris, I'll definitely look into this caulk! 👍👍
Hey now!
Dap Dynaflex 230 for interiors and Sashco Big Stretch for Crown Molding as there is always major expansion/contraction here in Chicago with 100 degree variance in temps over the year.
I wish Tower were available more places.
Also I had not realized clear and white had different properties.

Tip: Caulk over silicon works, then you can paint it. All you have to remember is to get caulk onto the natural surface either side of the silicon.

So you’re going over the joint twice with two different compounds and paying twice just to paint? Why not use something paintable in the first place?
@@kyleblandon2250 Did you watch the vid? 8:06 the building was already done in straight silicone.
Do you ever have to sand area where you've caulked outside to paint over it?
I'm in the northeast. I never heard of that product. I typically use Polyseamseal, Phenoseal or Dynaflex 230.

Tower Sealants TS-00215 10.1 fl-Ounce Tower Tech 2 Acrylic Urethane Sealant, White is $13 a tube on Amazon Canada.
Tower Sealants TS-00228 10.1 fl-Ounce Tower Tech 2 Acrylic Urethane Sealant, Almond is $8.26
Nice info I didn't think of that air in the caulking..
Look at that Caulk swell up.
Shouldn’t the cut caulk have a flared-out mushroom head? I’m a little confused...
You mentioned both were made by Tower, identified the first product but not the second. What’s the name of the 2nd product by Tower that you used in this video? Thanks.
Would you recommend their exterior caulk for small aluminum siding seams?
Thanks for another helpful video. 🙏

I bought clear by mistake. Can I use it on house with the Idaho cardboard siding?
Yes

On what applications is 100% silicone exterior made for?

What u think about Sherwin Williams 905a and Powerhouse? That's all I have available in my area besides Alex plus which I try to avoid.
Saw you uploaded a video about which is the right sprayer but then you made it private. Would love to see that one too?

Use two hands. One to hold gun and tip guard in place and the other to rotate and clear tip
Be careful not to engage trigger.Very important!
Graco reversible tips,
@@francojaramillo7736 I meant rotate from the spray pattern from horizontal to vertical.
@@TonightWeGrill just loosen the piece that connects the gun and the fan then rotate the fan and tighten it back down.
Chris can yoi give any knowledge or advice about "haloing"
Ive never had those issues with my caulk
I always playing with my caulk

Garbage in my opinion
Do you know does tower caulking make a bathroom and or kitchen type of caulking, and if so do you sell it. Thanks Wyckoff Remodeling

What's the origin of the 3-letter- square shirt logo design? I see other businesses do that all the time
No idea but it reminds me of the “love” logo from love park
Yea, you can paint over silicone caulk. Just hit it with Kilz first and it'll be fine.

Have used Alex Plus for years as well with great success inside and out.
