The best example of quantum physics is Schroedinger's cat. Particles like photons can take in superpositions, and become a wave. Means, it is now in multiple places at the same time, and different stages. However, if you somehow measure it or find out it's state, it has to decide for a stage. Here's the concept of the experiment with the cat: A particle with a superposition, a device that can tell in what stage it is, and a device that smashes a glass of poisonous gas that will kill the cat. However, if we don't look in and don't know what stage it's in(the device that measures the stage cannot understand the measurements it made and the cat cannot understand it either even if it can see it), the cat is now also forced to be in a superposition. In this scenario, there is absolutely no clear thing happening right now, and the only thing that is random is the stage the particle decides to be in as soon as a human, a thing that can understand the information, looks into the box

I literally argued with a Pokémon Card Seller about this. He said it was random which cards are in which pack. I said that's literally impossible, machines can't do random, they are just following an algorithm, which is so complicated that it seems random to us. @@JgHaverty First off, it wasn't me that brought quantum physics into the discussion, it was you. I cannot be off base not talking about something I didn't utter a single word about. Notice how none of my comments mentions quantum mechanics.
Secondly, the OP talked about Determinism, which is a philosophical viewpoint, first and foremost, so I made a comment on the philosophy. Some of quantum mechanics might inform your position on determinism, but the philosophical viewpoint is broader than that specific field of scientific study. It was you that confused philosophy with science.
Thirdly, philosophy is hugely important in how you do science, especially in how you interpret it. Will you have a Descartian or Humean view, or will you have a view of philosophical realism like the thomistic-aristotelian school for example.
