Beyond the reputation this episode has, even the production is sloppy. That wide shot in the final five seconds has Picard turning to the camera with almost no emotion calling for a red alert. Troi is just standing there with likely no direction on how to act in the moment. That guard in the back has no reaction to Yar, their security chief, being abducted until the red alert is called and then just lightly jogs off the screen. And the camera placement is odd (behind a bunch of barrels.
So a decade or so after this episode, the writer basically recycled the script for Stargate SG1 - coincidentally, the third episode of its first season as well. And big surprise, that SG1 ep is considered one of SG1’s worst.
I was so triggered by the SG1 episode because they compared them to Mongolians but actual Mongolians were quite ahead of their time when it came to women’s rights 🤦🏻♀️
Didn’t the guy get fired for making this episode racist? Or did somebody else decide to make the aliens black Humans in an African tribe culture, which wasn’t even in the script?
I was at a con & Garrett Wang from VOY was doing a Q&A. I asked if he had watched any Star Trek prior to VOY & he said every time he tried to watch TNG on television, it would always be playing this episode.
Didn’t somebody get fired over this episode? Apparently the alien race being an African tribe with only black cast members like this wasn’t even in the script.
@@brianwesley28 That’s not the point at all. They were just gonna be an alien race with a culture centered around honor and acts of bravery. The story was supposed to have a cautionary tale about something flawed in that way of life. Literally nothing said anything about them being weirdly reminiscent to an African tribe. Them being black wasn’t racist, but the obvious misuse of the culture or the fact that it reminded people of what colonialists scrutinized as being ‘honorable savages’, which is a stereotype.
Ugh, another example of how bad those first two seasons were. It’s was almost like seasons 1&2 went off the air, and seasons 3-7 were an entirely different show.
The swooshing noises are because he’s a ninja and not because the writers didn’t know how light works.
To quote Picard in Star Trek : First Contact : "photons and forcefields"
Can we pretend this episode doesn't exist?
“In your Federation terms…YOINK!”
Oh god please no
One of my favorite episodes. Brilliant, intriguing and entertaining
Your sarcasm is entertaining, though a bit "over the top"!
My wife's son sure enjoyed this too
Wait, is this from… that episode?
(Cue Sam Neill Event Horizon scream)

Lighten up Francis, it was a joke
@@SheldonAdama17 a very BAD one

It's forbidden because it's true. 😂
Lutan is impress and Kidnaps Yar
Today’s Episode on: The Author’s Barely Veiled Fetish!

Which other race would it fit better? 🤔

denise crosby soooo beautiful
The slowest reaction time I've ever seen ...... turtles move faster than Picard did here 🙄🙄

There were a few good ones those 2 seasons, but VERY few. Example- "Elementary, Dear Data" which introduced us to sentient holodeck Moriarty.
Lol people trippin
This was such an awful episode. People hate on Shades of grey and Sub Rosa but this is the worst one for me.
Even the abysmal Sub Rosa is better than this😂😂😮
Sub Rosa is great to just at laugh at how absurdly bad it is, this is just racist shit.
Probably the worst episode in the history of The Next Generation.
As "cringe-worthy" for TNG as "I, Mudd" was for TOS.
"Stella, dear..."
But nowhere near as bad as "And the Children Shall Lead"
Yeah, those are both hot contenders for worst!@@PaulCashman
The least favourite episode of all!
One of the very worst episodes of TNG on multiple levels. Season 1 was a mixture of a few good episodes but more that were total garbage like this.😮😂
Cringe Lt. Yar in the cringiest of first season...If this wasnt called "Star Trek" you woulda never seen these again.
