    I have a 2001 wakesetter with a "old school" wedge that locks either in the up position (pushed up against the bottom of the deck). Or lock down 90 degrees facing the prop.
    So down position creates the larger wake?
    And up should be up for just cruising?
    I'm guessing whatever way creates more wake would also hurt fuel economy? Or put more wear on the motor, working harder for same speed?
    When should it be up and when should it be down? Is there ever a time it SHOULDNT be up or down?

    Does lift mode reduce wale enough to slalom ski behind the boat or no? I know it wont be Ski Nautique level low wake, but what are your thoughts on slalom skiing behind it in lift mode (not for competition or even to run a slalom course but just for recreational slalom skiers)?

    Chantel, question for you.... I have a 2021 MXZ23 and "Lift Mode" does not automatically deploy when I am pulling a rider out up. I'm I doing something wrong? Was thinking that "Lift Mode" helps the boat get up on plane easier, which is does when I manually touch "Lift Mode" but I am told by other Malibu owners that "Lift mode" should deploy automatically, than once boat is up on plane will go to the pre-set wedge position. Wondering if you can assist w this question. thank you

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад

      If you have your speed set at 17mph or higher, the Wedge should go into Lift mode until you hit 90% of your set speed, then drop into the set position. Cruise control has to be turned on and set above 17mph for that feature to work. Could that be the problem?

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад

      What prop have you tried? With that M6, I would probably run the standard prop, even at a higher elevation. It is a good compromise of low-end torque and low RPMs at a higher speed. But if you always have a huge crew and/or add extra weight, you may want a torque prop.

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад

      With a manual Wedge, I would start with it up for beginners. When you drop it, it makes the wake shorter and a lot steeper and could be harder for a beginner to ride. Once you can get up and stay stable on the board, try ti both ways!

    Love all your videos! Just purchased a 2019 T23 and surfed it yesterday. With the wedge down (like 3+) it is really hard to steer. Loves to go straight, but trying to angle it around a point or pick up surfer falling off the wave (learned that from you🙂) takes some muscle. Is that normal??

    • @ChantelBoats

      If you put the wedge at 2, you will get a longer, but less steep, wake, so definitely try that. You can also move some of your people/gear to the front of the boat which will lengthen the wake out as well.

  • @bigbluewake
    @bigbluewake 4 года назад

    OK I’ve got a question. Using the power wedge for wakeboarding Let’s say it’s set at four, The wakeboarder falls we go back to pick them up and go again. Does the wedge always stay in that 4 position or wouldn’t it be better if it went to the lift position to get up on plane and then back to where it was that after reaching a certain speed. Is there a setting for this? By the way my Malibu is a 2012.

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад

      Yes, that is better, and the new Power Wedge does that automatically when your speed is set at 17MPH or higher. The Power Wedge in 2012 doesn't do that, unfortunately.

  • @nathanfreeman6136

    Hey there, I have an A22 2018. Just getting familiar with the wedge and ballasts in general. So when the wedge is in the down position (furthest down) is that goin to create the biggest wave? Or is the wave bigger in the position just before it is stowed? Also, what are tricks for making the wave longer vs steeper. Yesterday I had all of the ballasts full and the wedge at #3. The wave seemed short and steep? Any thoughts on how to shorten the height and make it longer? Thx a ton. Your videos are helping!!

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад +1

      Hi! For surfing, full ballast. For the Power Wedge settings, a 3 or a 4 is going to be big, steep and shorter. A 1 or a 2 is going to lengthen the wake out and give you less push. Lift mode is -500lbs of ballast, so that is going to be very long and not steep at all. Typically, when we have bigger people or more experienced riders, we run it on 3 or 4. Smaller people or beginners, a 1 or 2. Lift mode when teaching little kids - they need VERY little push! 5 and 6 are even more aggressive, but they just wash out the wake, so we don't use those.

    • @ChantelBoats

      For 70k and under you'll be looking at something used. If you're looking at Malibu and Axis try to find something that's 2013 or newer (2014 on Axis) so you can get surf gate. If you also like to ski, best bet would be a 20VTX, 21VLX or 22LSV in a diamond hull

      The T22 isn't really a ski boat per se, but you can definitely ski behind it. It is probably the best ski wake of any Axis (or maybe the A20). I bought a T22 after the new hull design came out and I loved it. Great surf wake. Coming from your Cobalt you will probably be just fine.

    What boat is better for a choppy ride on rough days? The 23lsv or the G23? Also, can you use the wedge to soften the ride on choppy days when just cruising? Thanks

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад +1

      The G23 will be pretty through super choppy water. It's a displacement hull, so it just plows right throw the water, where the LSV is a planing hull, so it is going to get up on top of the water. I've never used the Wedge that way, but I suppose you could mess with it as long as you don't go faster than 27mph.

    Great video. I have a new 2020 axis a22. Can you clarify how to get into stow mode? I understand it’s over 1mph to 10mph. Do you keep pressing raise wedge after 6 and the next setting is stow?
    I realized after completing a surf session I was driving around in “lift mode” for a while. Is that problematic for the boat in any way?

    • @ChantelBoats
      @ChantelBoats  4 года назад

      You can drive with the wedge down up to 27 mph. Ideally it’s stowed when not in use, but I doubt you hurt anything!
      To put it in stow, you can either push and hold wedge up or the go home button until it gets all the way there, and yes, the next level up from 6. I would do this while the boat is barely moving, 1-4 mph, then when it’s stowed, you can take off!

    Hi Chantel, Love your vids, they have helped me a lot, thx! I purchased a 2021 Wakesetter 23 LSV, with option for PNP extra ballasts, but have not installed any yet. The goofy wave is quite nice, but I surf regular and I feel the wave does not have enough push. I have filled all ballasts @ 100%, except the back right which I am toying with between 50 and 75%. Power wedge does not provide any noticeable difference when I cruise (without towing) to check for wave modifications. We are usually 3 on the boat and I am rather heavy (210 pounds). Do you think I have a settings issue or does the boat require the extra ballasts (and lead?) to perform well on regular side? Any tips or links would be appreciated! If you think I need extra PNP ballasts, can you recommend the best ones? Warm regards from Switzerland!
