"The truth is that LeBron ain't Michael, the new version of Bugs Bunny looked like one of those fluffy dolls you buy at an airport gift shop to bring your kid when your business trip has taken too long. I've worked with three people that have this magical quality that they affect people no matter what; they see them and some light goes on, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, and Madonna. All three have this quality where people connect immediately without understanding anything about them. And nobody else has that quality. LeBron is a fantastic basketball player, he's a top-20 basketball player of all time. He is not Michael. Maybe they should call it something else. They should not call it Space Jam 2, or whatever. It should be another movie. It's not Space Jam. Space Jam is Michael Jordan. No matter how much LeBron wants to be a great player - and he is a great player - he's not Michael Jordan. Let’s face it, when you’ve seen as many movies as he’s probably seen, a lot of stuff that may be unique and enjoyed by certain people may come across as hackneyed to others. I mean, I was probably one of the few viewers who unironically enjoyed “Monsters University” because of how little I was familiar with other college comedies it was taking influence from.
@@geoffreyrichards6079 Mostly, that movie was just considered Animal House without an R rating, so it couldn't be as funny. I thought it was definitely a weaker entry, but the ending stuck with me.
I kinda have to agree with Doug on this one. It's what I call a "F**k It Movie". A film you know is gonna be bad but your kinda curious how bad it can be so your like "F**k It, why not."
I remember Robot Chicken did the same rapping Loony Toons joke. Only it worked there because they used Buggs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in an 8 Mile rap battle Parody that actually played to the characters strengths.
Man, I’ve never seen Nate disagree so hard with one of these Critic reviews, but I gotta agree with Nate here. It being a reflection of 2021, when 2021 was another bad year in a string of bad years, did not help. The movie felt like it was three hours, and was so hard to get through.
I can see both sides, Nate clearly has a more painful experience with this movies and it's soulless existence from most start to finish. Doug was more tolerant about the cringyness and ironically liked it for how awkward it was. I saw it myself and it was just background noise for me. Nothing that draws my attention, but doesn't make me die inside either.
Honestly I get why Nate is made, but, I'm not gonna lie, Doug is right, WTF else was I expecting from Warner Bros in 2021? Nothing good. It and 2022 were years where shit games, shit movies, shit shows, and tons of cooperate bs was going on, so in that realm, the movie isn't good, it's a just a reminder of all the dumb stuff Hollywood and Suits do to try and get money outta me.

pepe le peu was an exaggerated french stereotype joke with not just him being overly romantic as well too forceful but the stupidity people taken offense to cancel him despite that he got the same treatment of his love interest doing it to him and him running away as a lesson.
Yeah. I feel had for Pepe, honestly. I liked his character, and I knew it wasn't good that he was doing those things. It's just a joke, people. Come on.
Space Jam 2 is officially the most divisive movie to come out of 2021. People either really like this movie like the NC, Cinema Snob, Black Nerd and the Normies (and me) or really hate this movie like Jeremy Jahns, Angry Joe, Blockbuster Buster and YMS (and you).
I don't think I've seen a movie that makes me want to hang myself. This movies is trying to do that, make me hang myself. In all seriousness, that Pepe le pew joke had me dying from laughing, it's so dark yet so funny.
Space Jam stayed in its lane. It had Looney Tunes and basketball and went as far as it could with both concepts, and its simplicity is where the charm comes in. The sequel tried to be so much more and became so obvious as a commercial that it became distracting. There's a reason the biggest impact the film has is videos of people mutilating LeBron James toys.
Well, to be fair, you could say that the legacy of the original “Space Jam” was just as damaging in another way. It was basically one of the trend starters that made traditionally animated films be regarded as overblown commercials for kids and later start flopping at the box office, eventually leading to CG animation taking over.
I all I can say I for some reason do get intrigued when a film or show does a multi crossover as long As Long as it’s good enough to make it some amount of sense
Ya know, when Nostalgia Critic mentioned on why people would go back to the original Space Jam, that it being a time capsule from 1996 and that this new movie is a time capsule of 2021...Well...That is the WHOLE REASON why I hated A New Legacy....While I can go back to 1996 and have some fond memories of it, heck even get a chuckle on how cheesy it is...I can't think of a single reason to go back to 2021 because 2021 SUCKED HARD!
I mean, things might get worse 20 years from now and they might want to go back to 2021. Who knows. As for the movies, I liked the original better but this one wasn’t bad imo
Eh. I’m sure 1996 also had its share of bad qualities that led people to disliking it too. It’s just that most people alive back then only remember the good stuff and forgotten the bad. The same will likely befall the early 2020s, especially if things continue to escalate from here onwards.
Thanks to the review of The Blockbuster Buster. He noted that they Took OUT Pepe Le Pew, My FAVORITE Looney Tunes Character, However when the game starts and the ppl start gathering around, Real quick you see the 'Droogs' from A Clock Work Orange.... wait until you hear about the scene with Pepe which was cut. Pepe was set to appear in a black-and-white Casablanca-like Rick’s Cafe sequence. Pepe, playing a bartender, starts hitting on a woman at the bar played by Jane the Virgin actress Greice Santo. He begins kissing her arm, which she pulls back, then slamming Pepe into the chair next to hers. She then pours her drink on Pepe, and slaps him hard, sending him spinning in a stool, which is then stopped by LeBron James’ hand. James and Bugs Bunny are looking for Lola, and Pepe knows her whereabouts. Pepe then tells the guys that Penelope cat has filed a restraining order against him. James makes a remark in the script that Pepe can’t grab other Tunes without their consent. Upon learning that her scene with Pepe was cut, Santo was upset according to her spokesperson. The actress-singer has been a victim of sexual harassment and has spoken out against it; even recording a debut single “Você Você” back in February 2018 with multi- Grammy-winning producer Humberto Gatica to empower women to stand up to sexual predators and sexual harassment. Santo even has a non-profit, Glam with Greice, which aims to empower victims of domestic violence to change their lives for the better. Santo took joy in shooting the Space Jam sequel scene with Pepe, because the skunk finally gets his comeuppance. A spokesperson for Santo tells Deadline today, “This was such a big deal for Greice to be in this movie. Even though Pepe is a cartoon character, if anyone was going to slap a sexual harasser like him, Greice wished it would be her. Now the scene is cut, and she doesn’t have that power to influence the world through younger generations who’ll be watching Space Jam 2, to let younger girls and younger boys know that Pepe’s behavior is unacceptable.” Damn shame. They could have acknowledged Pepe's legacy, rehabilitated the character, and changed him to meet the needs of a modern audience. Maybe he could have undergone a character arc by actually learning the cat's name and getting to know her, or something. EDIT: To make it abundantly clear, I'm not mourning the loss of a character who was the very definition of a sexual predator for kids. My point is simply I feel a teachable moment about consent might be lost by not grappling with the legacy of a character who was THE "iconic" model of violations of consent for generations of kids. It's like making a Lovecraftian story today without grappling directly with H.P. Lovecraft's racial legacy.
Even some of the original Pepe shorts were aware of his predatory nature, with him getting frequently beaten up or taking back his advances when the tables have turned. So it would’ve been perfectly in character for that scene to have been included.
48:07 Once again, I got a gift I didn't know i wanted from the Comedy Gods. Nate's response to the "King Kong ain't got nothing on me" line as soon as the demonetization sign appears. A commercial starts, as if what Nate said was SO BAD they had to get it off screen as soon as possible!
idk about me with this film, but to quote NC from his Jingle All the Way review: "ya know what they say, 'if you can't beat 'em *puts on fake pirate hat* join 'em.'"
I'll admit, as far as sellout films go, I personally found this better than the first one. Not only do the Looney Tunes feel more in-character this time, but the story actually makes sense in its own strange way. This time, the human character is the one seeking out the animated characters for help and not the other way around.
Yeah, their depictions in the original film was extremely off - being really obnoxious in that trendy 90s way. It was one of the flaws that kinda took me out of the movie, even as a kid.
Unfortunately, he has seen Mitchells vs the Machines. He didn't think it was great but claimed the ending is what really saved it. I'm thinking he was thrown by the random humour, how some plot points like the father and daughter not understanding one another is overused, but most likely he does like it if he knows what the film is all about now rewatching it having seen the ending.
It will never not be funny to me that they didn't add Pepe Le Pew into the movie because it's "current year" and "he's too handsy, no means no!" yet add in actual rapists from A Clockwork Orange into their kids movie.
also, there's a character in the film, a nun, who came from a forgotten controversial WB film called 'The Devils' from 1971, which starred Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave.
"Warner Bros. has become so stubborn recently in barely giving the characters of their own movie the spotlight they truly deserve - Nobody came to Scoob! for a Hanna-Barbera crossover, nobody came to Tom & Jerry to see an unlikeable bitch dealing with wedding drama, and nobody came to Space Jam 2 wanting to see family drama!" - Yoshi Player
Okay, something that's gonna forever weird me out about this movie. Foghorn as Daenarys and riding Drogon. Why and how long was he Dany? Did he marry Khal Drogo? Did he eat the horse heart? Did he massacre the Unsullied's former masters? Did he make whoopie with Jon Snow???
"Almost entirely worthless. The experience of Space Jam: A New Legacy feels like you put HBO Max on shuffle and it played every piece of media on the streaming service for exactly ten seconds and then switched to the next thing. And honestly, doing that would still be a better evening spent than watching this soulless exercise in content management. A New Legacy takes Warner Bros IP out of context and scrambles it for the purpose of constructing a mashup commercial. Often it feels like a spreadsheet or a checklist given life as a motion picture. This isn't exactly a surprise, considering that Space Jam operated in a similar fashion, just on a much smaller scale, but it's weirdly directionless, failing to actually do something with the branding in a way that The Lego Movie or even Ready Player One provided." - SilentDawn
To be honest seen Space Jam 2 and I thought it was ok, don't get me wrong it's bad but has a sense of what it' is delivering considering the 1st Space Jam was awkward and bad as well but enjoyably bad for as Doug said being a time capsule of a film and after seeing the ads of Space Jam 2 my first thought was "oh No why" but after watching it, it wasn't as bad I thought it was considering didn't have my hopes up to high heavens had that for Star wars Solo which was hype for but left a sour taste in mouth afterwards and hate that film cause it was boring didn't enjoy anything about that film but hey honest thoughts for that movie, overall the Space Jam is indeed a time capsule of 2021 for better or worst will be a film that'll be forgotten until one day you see it being in your recommend and be like oh yeah that film.
I had my original Dot Matrix Game Boy up until 2002 when I got a Game Boy Advance with Mario Kart: Super Circuit for Christmas that year. If I saw a kid toss his Game Boy in the garbage back in '98 I would have called him a ungrateful dumbass, if you don't want your original Game Boy anymore give it to someone who wants one, also he's nuts because Poke'mon was getting big around that time.
Christopher Robin does the Hook angle, and nobody complained. I mean, not from the villain manipulating the hero's child point of view, but the hero rediscovering his childhood identity point of view.
The first space jam for as goofy as it was had a narrative through-line for both micheal jordan and the loonie toons. The sequel on the other hand has a half arsed story for labron and nothing but memes for the toons. Heck why are the loonie toons in the second one beside 'hey they were in the first one so *shrug*'
At leash Lola Bunny is not a Rabbit version of a Barbie Doll (this Lola got personality the other Lola got nothing than probably the reason why Furies existed, the new one is an Amazon which I think it make sense)
“King Kong got nothing on me!” Me: alright you lucky there’s a force shield or King Kong will turn you into a tin can (no one make fun of my Childhood Monster and get out there alive)
I think this movie is just ok. I didn't hate it, I liked the Looney Tunes segment and some jokes did give me a chuckle. If it had better writing/direction it could've been better. I like some of Malcolm D. Lee's work like Girls Trip. He's a good director, not the best or worst, just good. It comes to just it needs a better team of writers and maybe down to just two writers. I still blame 85 percent of it towards the studio, obviously. It's not the worst movie of 2021, doesn't even come close, I've seen movies that are worse than this. In fact, the worst movie of 2021 comes from the director who made The Haunting of Sharon Tate, called Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman. It's so bad, so fundamentally broken that it has to be seen to be believed.
This film tried harder than the first film (I like it more than the original at least), though I'd prefer to see Terrance Nance's original version of this film, which seemed to be more of the meta-mocking of corporate synergy until Nance left and the film went through multiple rewrites. There is some elements left behind like LeBron calling out the movie itself and the Tunes turning into CG being portrayed as a BAD thing, but that seems to be all that was left behind. Also, I hope we eventually just get a straightforward Looney Tunes Movie that's has no relation to Basketball what-so-ever. I think they CAN work in a movie if done properly, I imagine something in the same vein as Naked Gun/Airplane or It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Back in Action is the closest, but I'd like to see one with zero executive meddling in the production. Coyote Vs Acme so far seems to be going well with James Gunn on board writing it at least (I'm certain WB will at least let HIM do what he wants).
I Will Agree That The First Space Jam Was A Better Put Together Movie. I Felt The Jokes Fell Pretty Flat In Both Space Jam's Though & I Definitely Feel Out Of Both LeBron & Mike Neither Can Act For Crap. However I Prefer LeBron By A Literal Hair To Michael Jordan. I Also Like The Sequel Movie Better Because In Terms Of Which One Do I Have A Better Time With & Find More Fun, The Sequel Wins For Me In That Respect. Sorry Internet & Space Jam Original Fans, Just Can't Help Feeling That Way
You make the best reactions to Nostalgia Critic hope you react to The Mask he did. Also I’m not talking about the one with the comic the one where he actually talks about the movie
Amazing how everyone was psyched when the trailers were released earlier last year , but after the movie premiered , it got bad reception. Guess people set their expectations too high.
Space jam a new legacy just unfortunate became “The Worst Movie Of 2021” this film is way worse than the original.. both of those films are awful but a new is way worse than the old (at least New “IT” was better than the Old “IT”) and the Doug has described the old space jam sucks and we agree with that.. (some people disagree) but it’s when they were kids loving it but growing up seeing this film it’s sucks but space jam a new legacy is (HIGHLY OVERRATED) am I right?
I found a movie that way worse than A New Legacy, called Ted Bundy American Boogeyman, from the same director of The Haunting of Sharon Tate. It's a really distasteful film that solidified its spot as the worst of the year. There is no reason for this movie to exist and no reason it should've been made.
Personally I find the rapping scene cringe-worthy as all get out but I still can’t help but feel a smile creep onto my face when I see it. I don’t know why though.
I will keep saying it until it happens, you need to watch Nostalgia Critic Pearl Harbor. It's the only time you'll actually see a genuine rage from the critic.
OK, someone please help me! Am I crazy, or is it some Mandela thing? But I could've sworn that it was supposed to be Michael Jordan Jr who had the lead for this movie? Is this some Berenstain Bears sh!t or something?
I saw this film only once...I think that says a lot about how I feel about the film. It was nice to see 2D animation on the big screen again? Yeah just didn't think I would have to associate it with...*sigh*...a rapping CGI porky pig.
I find it amusing that millennials will defend the original space jam like its the holy grail, and say that this new one is horrible, cringy, and pandering. the original was basically one long commercial and so was the new one.
One was a commercial for Nike and the other was a commercial for HBOMAX. Surprisingly the only live action looney tunes movie that isn't a commercial is Looney Tunes: Back in Action. That's kinda funny.
I thought some of the jokes were okay. But that's about it. Like, the fact that even Rick and Morty can't explain Taz, or that Sylvester got shaved to be the Austin Powers cat? I can have fun with that. Also, I have no desire to watch Austin Powers ever. I'm not a fan of Frat Boy Humor.
I hated the original Space Jam growing up cause it was clearly one long commercial and ended up being a big catalyst for WB pushing for the catastrophe Batman & Robin. This movie was just terrible as a film haha
Honestly I feel like this was a movie that had so much potential that was sadly wasted and even tho he is a top name in the Basketball industry, Lebron just wasn't the right choice. Heck, I think Shaq could've been a better candidate as his style and humor would've fit MUCH more in line with the Looney Tunes as opposed to Lebron's as I feel throughout the movie he felt like he was forced with his acting and seemed to be fighting with the direction of the movie. Overall the movie is a massive flop and a disgrace to the original Space Jam.
Lebron won worst actor for this movie along with prequel, remake, or sequel and worst screen couple for Lebron James and "any Warner cartoon character (or Time-Warner product) he dribbles on"

Hey, I haven't seen you in years. How have you been?
Hard disagree. The first one I can sit through. This one just feels dead. Especially after the rap part. To each their own though.
Yeah, their depictions in the original film was extremely off - being really obnoxious in that trendy 90s way. It was one of the flaws that kinda took me out of the movie, even as a kid.
The sad thing is that porky raps better in robot chicken...why didn't they bring those guys in to rap?!
Um, what? I've never seen Robot Chicken. XD
45:56 "-that we let this happen."
Big problem there, the audience didn't make this movie. Warner Bros did!
40:07 to avoid NC's Stamp Skit
34:09 Because then it would feel too much like Ralph Breaks the Internet.
34:08 Or Maybe Because This Version Of Wonder Woman Is Not Gal Gadot Wonder Woman, I Mean Do You Really Want Gal Gadot To Voice Wonder Woman?.
12:25 and 13:166 There, Nostalgia Critic brought up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this review.
His gigantic facereveal in 24:47 - 24:51 could be a great new meme!
Pennywise isn't a serial killer, he's a literal cosmic horror monster that eats children.
I thought pennywise was punk rock band not a giant spider
Unfortunately, he has seen Mitchells vs the Machines. He didn't think it was great but claimed the ending is what really saved it. I'm thinking he was thrown by the random humour, how some plot points like the father and daughter not understanding one another is overused, but most likely he does like it if he knows what the film is all about now rewatching it having seen the ending.
Yeah.
It will never not be funny to me that they didn't add Pepe Le Pew into the movie because it's "current year" and "he's too handsy, no means no!" yet add in actual rapists from A Clockwork Orange into their kids movie.
Poor Pepe.
also, there's a character in the film, a nun, who came from a forgotten controversial WB film called 'The Devils' from 1971, which starred Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave.
"Warner Bros. has become so stubborn recently in barely giving the characters of their own movie the spotlight they truly deserve - Nobody came to Scoob! for a Hanna-Barbera crossover, nobody came to Tom & Jerry to see an unlikeable bitch dealing with wedding drama, and nobody came to Space Jam 2 wanting to see family drama!"
- Yoshi Player
Okay, something that's gonna forever weird me out about this movie. Foghorn as Daenarys and riding Drogon. Why and how long was he Dany? Did he marry Khal Drogo? Did he eat the horse heart? Did he massacre the Unsullied's former masters? Did he make whoopie with Jon Snow???
The spaghetti and meatballs physical humor actually did makee laugh
Same. XD
Pepe Lew Pew skit was hilarious
They also wrote/directed 21 and 22 Jump Street
"Almost entirely worthless. The experience of Space Jam: A New Legacy feels like you put HBO Max on shuffle and it played every piece of media on the streaming service for exactly ten seconds and then switched to the next thing. And honestly, doing that would still be a better evening spent than watching this soulless exercise in content management. A New Legacy takes Warner Bros IP out of context and scrambles it for the purpose of constructing a mashup commercial. Often it feels like a spreadsheet or a checklist given life as a motion picture. This isn't exactly a surprise, considering that Space Jam operated in a similar fashion, just on a much smaller scale, but it's weirdly directionless, failing to actually do something with the branding in a way that The Lego Movie or even Ready Player One provided."

Also If Nate Dislikes Space Jam A New Legacy, He Should Watch Doug's First Viewing & See Rob's Reaction When A Certain "Rap" Happens 😂
48:09 lol.
46:42 I said it once, I'll say it again, why didn't you play Pig Power in the House?
I had my original Dot Matrix Game Boy up until 2002 when I got a Game Boy Advance with Mario Kart: Super Circuit for Christmas that year. If I saw a kid toss his Game Boy in the garbage back in '98 I would have called him a ungrateful dumbass, if you don't want your original Game Boy anymore give it to someone who wants one, also he's nuts because Poke'mon was getting big around that time.
I still have my game boy and play Pokemon Blue on occasion.
1991's 'Hook' film is sony, not WB.
Christopher Robin does the Hook angle, and nobody complained. I mean, not from the villain manipulating the hero's child point of view, but the hero rediscovering his childhood identity point of view.
Your kind of right on the shoe thing I remember when back in the 90s when mad TV made fun of him and the sneaker s*** and he literally wanted to sue p
The Mitchells vs The Machines is the best animated film of 2021. I really love that movie.
But sadly, Doug does not.
The movie immediately lost me when they threw away the Gameboy
35:33, 42:39, 44:24 LOL's
The first space jam for as goofy as it was had a narrative through-line for both micheal jordan and the loonie toons. The sequel on the other hand has a half arsed story for labron and nothing but memes for the toons. Heck why are the loonie toons in the second one beside 'hey they were in the first one so *shrug*'
At leash Lola Bunny is not a Rabbit version of a Barbie Doll (this Lola got personality the other Lola got nothing than probably the reason why Furies existed, the new one is an Amazon which I think it make sense)
35:33
and
42:38
:D
Fun fact: I never had a gameboy color in 1998, In fact I just had the gameboy around that time (I was 7/8 years old back than)
“King Kong got nothing on me!”
Me: alright you lucky there’s a force shield or King Kong will turn you into a tin can (no one make fun of my Childhood Monster and get out there alive)
I would've loved it if he just squished the guy, and that's how it ended. XD
You know nate this reminds me you never got around to watching the NC's reveiw of fury road
Was Lebron's appearance in Trainwreck a cameo or a major role?
40:59 YOU SHOULD SEE LUCA!!!!
I was actually hoping you were going to watch this!
Sadly, Doug doesnt really like Mitchells' VS Machines. But he liked the ending.
Definitely had a pretty solid time with a new legacy.
Thank you I remember you saying you enjoyed it also
I Will Agree That The First Space Jam Was A Better Put Together Movie. Sorry Internet & Space Jam Original Fans, Just Can't Help Feeling That Way
Definitely check out his review/reenactment of Fury Road.
So Lebron's move is Michael Jordan's fadeaway???
From the director of Scary Movie 5 of all people
He also directed Girls Trip, and the Barbershop movies. He's an okay director, he just needs a good writer(s).
I'm curious are there any movies you think are entertainingly bad?
You should check out E-Rod's review of Space Jam 2
Technically Bugs is now a rapist ever since Warner Bros claimed the rights from Meat Canyon's Wabbit Season.
So bad, that South Park deemed this movie the reason why society collapsed during Covid
I like this filmed
Are you really gonna complain about a basketball star’s acting Nate, especially when a film is just one big advertisement?
as kid born in 90 face & palm retire the mc hammer reference from future movies & shows 😒 its become more dated than godfather reference at this point
i love this movie
Were you excited when you react the trailer?
Can you react to nostalgia critic Dolittle?
Nate are you going to do a reaction to Evolution of Godzilla's Atomic Breath?
Honestly I feel like this was a movie that had so much potential that was sadly wasted and even tho he is a top name in the Basketball industry, Lebron just wasn't the right choice. Heck, I think Shaq could've been a better candidate as his style and humor would've fit MUCH more in line with the Looney Tunes as opposed to Lebron's as I feel throughout the movie he felt like he was forced with his acting and seemed to be fighting with the direction of the movie. Overall the movie is a massive flop and a disgrace to the original Space Jam.
Can you react to max0rMetal Gear Rising???
Lebron won worst actor for this movie along with prequel, remake, or sequel and worst screen couple for Lebron James and "any Warner cartoon character (or Time-Warner product) he dribbles on"
