The heart of my being lies with Gurren Lagann, and it powers me to this day. For the longest time, I was depressed beyond repair. Not even being able to get out of bed, because I had no friends for the last 5 years. I was Alone, yet I yearned for friendship, and love. This song is all my hopes/dreams realized. Nowadays, since I broke through my shell, I started loving myself.

Your description of your depression reminds me of Shinji Ikari from _Neon Genesis Evangelion,_ which is interesting because _Gurren Lagann_ was basically created as the antithesis to _Evangelion._
If you haven’t seen _Evangelion,_ here’s a basic rundown without spoiling too much (hopefully): Shinji is depressed for the entire series because his mom is dead, his dad is an asshole, and it feels like no-one appreciates him despite the fact that he’s apparently one of the few humans on the planet capable of piloting an Evangelion against the main who are trying to destroy humanity. After he is forced to kill his new best friend (who it turns out is a Kailua disguised as a human) his depression gets so bad that he inadvertently causes an apocalyptic event which is basically the Rapture before realizing how highly he was actually regarded by his friends and peers.

My first anime- its great and the ending was the only one thats ever made me cry, and still out of all the anime’s I’ve watched not a single one has made me shed a single tear and listening to this made me cry once more it made me remember things back from my childhood watching this. I remember it and Chrono crusade being on HBO or cinemax years ago didn't get to watch the whole series until a few years later but instantly fell in love with it anyways.

Hits so fucking hard. When you fully comprehend Kamina's character, there's an untold beauty to these lyrics. He gave Simon the reason to keep on going and literally drilled it into his brain until it finally clicked. And Simon grew from the experience.

Holy fuck, the manly tears won't stop. There is this one scene (I think after Kittan dies) when Simon's glasses start to change and for a moment they take the shape of the ones Kamina had but then go even further ending up as the star shaped ones from the end, even if it was just one moment that part was epic and symbolized a LOT
