This show should have been on in primetime instead of daytime; not only the intro, but the overall production values and the number of well-known actors (Carolyn Jones, Ed Nelson, Constance Towers, Richard Egan, Rory Calhoun) seemed to make this show too big for daytime. I also think the political backdrop would have attracted male viewers who might not be home at 2:30/1:30 Central in the afternoon.
Funny...I remember the show but not that opening. In fact, I recall wanting to see it when I read that Carolyn Jones was on it. I was expecting her to look like Morticia Adams because that was my point of reference for her. As a child, I had no clue that she was wearing wigs and theatrical makeup. So imagine my surprise when I finally saw her. LOL!
This would certainly be an interesting soap to reboot today. A survey was done in the early 2000’s of the 10 most missed soaps, & CAPITOL was one of them.
CBS Soap Opera Lineup: 12:30 ET/11:30 PT - Y&R (11:00 AM in some markets like mine) 1:30 ET/12:30 PT- AS THE WORLD TURNS 2:30 ET/1:30 PT- CAPITOL 3:00 ET/2:00 PT- GUIDING LIGHT. When CAPITOL was replaced by BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, CBS wanted the Bill Bell shows in one block, as a result it was: 1:30 ET/12:30 PT- B&B 2:00 ET/1:00 PT- ATWT Moving ATWT a half hour later put the Proctor and Gamble shows in one block.
Lol when this soap aired i thought it was going too be all about politicians in office 😂
On soap's it never really matters what job the characters have. It's all about who is bedding who.
In those days it was the most glamorous intro of all daytime soap opera's.

@@bobthetvfan Unless if they set their VCRs to record Capitol before heading off to work (so they would watch it later).
By adding images suggesting love and glamour, this opening marks an improvement over its predecessor, which seemed too much like a travelogue.

If i'm not mistaken, Capitol would be replaced a year later by The Bold and The Beautiful, which is still going strong today.
Correct. Capitol 1982 - 1987 . Bold and Beautiful Debuted after capitol cancelled
Thanks for the upload !! A soap opera cancelled WAY too soon !!
I like how they put a shot of the Washington Monument in-between the steamier still shots.
Capitol ...This portion is brought to you by Kraft Macaroni and Cheese...It's the Cheesiest!!!
They should reboot this soap opera and poke fun at MOTUS.
what is MOTUS?
Ma era la sigla americana di Capitol? Non l'ho mai vista
