I'm late joining the Conversation, but really love S3, E5 brown pullover Claire is wearing while talking to her colleague. It looks like the stitches are knit side to side!

Hey! I noticed in movies and shows depicting midevil period that instead of metal chain-mail armor they use grey garter stitched "chain-mail" items! **Smile**

@@NerdyKnitting I think I saw it on the TV show "Camelot" (CBC/British) and some others. Chain-mail is very expensive and time consuming to make. And fitting might not be so easy. BUT a garter knit garment is easy to to make AND has STRETCH! **Smile**

So true! I'm going to have to find out more about that - what a neat way to use knit fabric!

I bought the "Outlander Knitting" book because I wanted to make Claire's beautiful cowl. There is a 'Claire's cowl' pattern in the book, but it looks nothing like Claire's cowl, neither the yarn nor the pattern. I found that most of the patterns were 'inspired' by Outlander but only a few were really close to the originals. What a disappointment! Finally, I made up my own garter stitch cowl with bulky yarn held double, using circular needles in a size 17US/12.00 mm. It is a close approximation!

Speaking of historical knits, I have been looking for a sontag/hug-me-tight/bosom friend pattern. Those are the relatively short/not as deep, shawls that wrap around the waist, Have you designed any? If you have designed one, I would purchase it. Or if you know of a pattern out there that is adjustable for a plus size waist, I'd be interested too. Thanks. This was a good video, but I was looking for a sontag pattern in Outlander. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have a pattern for anything like that. Have you checked Ravelry?

In the British Mini-series "Little Dorrit" (Charles Dickens) The main character "Little Dorrit", she wears this shall thin and taupe. Can you tell me more abut this? I am still a beginner. A bunch of scarves and 1 hat, NO PATTERNS! **Smile**

LOL, but IF they DID have big yarn and needles I'm sure they would have made and worn all these items.
