I remember North Dakota, lived there for a few years. Beautiful place, friendly people, good paying jobs.
Brutal winters, but you get use to it, summer was nice, a little short, seemed like winter was more or less 9 months of the year.
I remember at work one day, I overheard someone say "summer is my favorite month".

Your kayak set up makes sense, your equiptment seems functional, and your instincts for where the fish are and what they're feeding on always feels sound; not only that, your commentary is calm and easy to listen to. Berkeley used to make a 3" power grub that would absolutely kill the pre-spawn smallies here in PA.. A fish on almost every cast.. That leech reminded me of that.

This is the fishing of my childhood: Fishing for smallmouths using jigs in a canoe on the Mohawk River with my dad. We used plenty of plastics, but also tied our own from feathers and bucktail hair.

Water seemed to be heating up quick bud... Started with a couple heavies of bronze then parlayed some chunks off the point a walleye kicker. Sweet candy. Can't wait to start working the creeks and rivers in IL now the honey-do list shrunk. Thanks for another great trip Matt.

Any leech lure up here in Minnesota will work like a charm. It's like crack for fish. On top of that, leeches are pretty common food source for them up here.

Matt, I've caught a 30" walleye and a 34" northern in that bay, plus more smallmouth than I can count. And yes, the smallie in that lake are THICK!

I did find Nikko's website and, yes, the shipping is a little cheaper and way cheaper if buy multiple items. It is the same shipping price for 1, 2, or 3 leech packs.
It sounds like they are made of a similar material as the Z-Man floating plastic baits, what with the melting issue. I have a number of Z-Man plastics, so i am used to being careful with them. Did you know that Nikko now has a Black Aurora color and an Obsidian color for their leeche? The Obsidion is more of a deep black. Thanks for all your advice 🙂

Yes! I am a new kayak angler. Took my new Yak for the first time last weekend. It was walleye opener in NW Ontario and I was not disappointed. For pure fishing the kayak beats the canoe 100%

Wow. What a day! It’s amazing how well you control your paddle kayak in the wind. That’s so tough. I noticed you went to the baitcaster with the leech on that super light leadhead. I struggle casting small baits on the baitcaster. Great video and I hope you have a great spring and summer!
You should try the dark sleeper for smallies just because it’s a very popular lure it’d be cool to see what results you have with it. That is if you can get one
