Marijuana is 'the smell of failure' when spread throughout a city: Murray

- Author Douglas Murray says the odour of marijuana spreading through city streets is “the smell of failure” for that government and its citizens.
“I had some friends from London visiting in New York recently and they had four children, all under the age of ten … the five-year-old said, ‘what is that smell’,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“I said it is the smell of failure, to which the mother mouthed thank you at me.
“People pretend the decriminalisation of drugs does not involve a whole set of other problems.
“You do not see an uptick in the average well-being of the population.”
I chuckle whenever I read an online Guardian article and see that EVERYTIME they have a plea for people to give them money. LOL

Have to disagree with Murray, which is very rare. Marijuana legalisation should have come years ago. As a common user, I find it to be an often very good substitute for alcohol. Very much in favour of legalisation.
You don't know what you're talking about. You should stop smoking it and get a life, you're boring.
Are English people owed Reparations from the Vikings and Romans?

Douglas is heading towards the Peter Hitchens path of suggesting that cannabis is heavily linked to violent crime and robberies but he still has no issues with alcohol.
Anyone who knows stoners knows this suggestion doesn't match up with the effects of the drug.
There may be meth heads and other drug users who also use weed to try to bring themselves down but suggesting that cannabis is the same as alcohol, meth or opioids is a pretty ill informed take on things.
I bet the police who patrol any English city after midnight on a weekend would prefer that weed was the drug of choice rather than alcohol.
Hitchens biggest mistake is he fails to distinguish the difference between indica and sativas. If you're toking 100% indicas like Pakistan Valley for example, the only way you're going to get violent is if you whiz it up with, wait for it, alcohol. The world is full of people who live normal and productive lives but enjoy a spliff, for some reason this seems to upset the g & t drinkers of this world . I don't object to your choice of recreational drug-which Alcohol is - so leave stoners alone.
I agree with Peter Hitchens on most things, but not his take on cannabis. It's a little surprising that I find myself thinking the same about Douglas Murray now, but such is the beauty of the diversity of opinion. I would certainly say that cannabis use has progressed far beyond merely smoking it to get high, and I'm rather surprised that Douglas doesn't acknowledge this. Of course, many Americans lack self-control and therefore are not able to use it wisely and in moderation. However, other cities in places like Spain with very similar policies are able to manage and regulate consumption in a far more sensible way with minimal disruptions to non-consumers.

This is so backwards considering in every major western city there’s homeless drug addicted zombies walking around but we focus on weed
I am a big fan of Douglas Murray and have both his books but he’s so wrong about the cannabis issue.
He spoke of drugged up people on the streets, well, they are on heroin, fentanyl, crack and methedrine and aren’t misbehaving because of weed.
Prohibition is the stepping stone as people get their weed from drug dealers, dealers who often sell other drugs too.
With cannabis regulation, coffee shop culture and dispensaries people can only get weed, you can’t even use tobacco in Dutch coffee shops.
If peoples lives are impacted by cannabis they are just using it as an excuse to fail.
Cannabis users are just as proficient and industrious as non users so sorry Douglas you are way off base on this subject.
Alcohol is the worst legal drug and causes so much domestic violence and time off work. Car accidents and the biggest threat to those out on a Friday night is drunken violent males and not weed smokers.
Tax and regulate and the revenue brought in can fund drug education and pay for detox and rehabilitation centres.
It’s a no brainer and no, cannabis doesn’t kill brain cells it’s actually neuro protective as it is absorbed by the linings of nerves and when people with MS are given cannabis this absorption by nerve lining helps with signal transmission.

Weed has been legal for a few years in Canada, and nowhere is there an ubiquitous smell of weed. We stoners are generally more respectful of others and our surroundings than smokers, who think the world is there ashtray and they get to pitch their butt anywhere and everywhere.
Douglas Murray always gives me the creeps for some reason.
Smoking should only be at home and never infront of children. PTSD is why alot of people smoke it. So I suggest we look at the why which is more to the point. Society is deciding how everyone lives. Older people know what it is like to live without so many rules. Working people too hard without appreciation of a good wage. Family life tragic events. We need an outlet for stress but that gets attacked by dogooders who don't do anything else in life but criticise others because they think they know how to run your life and your money. That is to me dictatorship. Blimey in my lifetime we had no drink driving laws, no speed limit, no seatbelts, no mobiles and other devices in your face, privacy from marketing media and scammers. Hell we were more responsible back then.
Not sure why smoking the modern devil's lettuce helps with PTSD it's fucken crazy heady now. Hopefully they use oils which is much better. In 40yrs of smoking and with PTSD finding a strain to smoke rather then just picking up oil is really difficult, but I'm willing to keep trying no matter how much I have to try...
