Well said! However if your goal is pure hypertrophy then straps are kind of a must for any sort of pulling movements, lots of posterior chain and dumbbell leg work, etc. unless you're specifically trying to target forearms, it's all about your individual goals
100%. I try to lift without them until I need them to continue. The next set with straps will be much easier showing you mentally thought you were on edge pushing, but it was the wrong muscles.
Also, as someone with previous hand and wrist issues that impact my grip strength using straps has enabled me to push the actual muscle I am targeting while other exercises I can improve my grip on that don’t focus on as high of weight or the same muscle groups.
I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, surgery for both thumbs, and have the tiniest bit of arthritis starting in the base of my thumbs. My body has put up with a lot and needs all the help it can get.
Literally bought myself some straps yesterday. Don’t need them for every lift. In fact, I’ll probably use them on the last set of an exercise when I want to go to failure but cumulative fatigue on my forearm limits the movement. If you do 3-4 different pulling exercises, by the time you get to the 3rd or 4th, your forearms will already have gotten enough work anyway.
This is facts. As a wrestler and BJJ competitor grip strength is very important. I went through a period where I never used straps to improve my grip. But when I used straps so that my back training was back training and grip training was grip training I saw massive improvements in both. You just get sup optimal results of you try and combine the two.
Oh my, you actually got me. Thought you were calling me out. I love my straps at the end of a long workout deep into pull ups and deadlifts, my grip gets tired before my larger muscle groups. Glad you were kidding 🤙.
I think it's up to every individual personal choice. I used lifting straps for years, but recently switched to hook grip, and have had significant strength growth in hand, back and traps. Most of important for me I've had major improvement in my deadlifts.
Strap user here. I went from deadlifting 255 (no straps), 4x12. To lifting 405, 4x8 within a Month and half. Definitely helped me with getting stronger.

Dude is so funny. Wish he did live streams
I love this guy funny but gives great advice
I love how aggressively you slapped that pickle onto your plate
Lately I’ve been using them because my hands get so dang sweaty … and obviously helps with a Getting More weight
Nice form on that bent over row
Bro had personal beef with that pickle 😂
I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, surgery for both thumbs, and have the tiniest bit of arthritis starting in the base of my thumbs. My body has put up with a lot and needs all the help it can get.
I don't use them because I forget to bring them to the gym💀
I don't give a shit what other people think about my equipment. It helps me maximize my lifting potential exactly as Sean says here.
Straps absolutely changed my pulling days for the better. Wish I had gotten them sooner!
man they helped me out so much on rows
Spit, I hardly use straps bc I want to train the muscles used without them, but straps are definitely a useful tool when it comes to certain lifts
Dude why did you pull that pickle out so aggressively?? 😂😂😂😂😂
I actually didn’t know this is what straps do. I’ve seen a lot of people use them but I didn’t know their function until now. Thank you.
I agree on most most things you've said but not this one I think building dynamic grip strength is incredibly important for hypertrophy.
This is facts. As a wrestler and BJJ competitor grip strength is very important. I went through a period where I never used straps to improve my grip. But when I used straps so that my back training was back training and grip training was grip training I saw massive improvements in both. You just get sup optimal results of you try and combine the two.
I use straps for working sets and not for warm up/back off sets. It has improved my grip wonderfully.
Lol that pickle slap was sooo gooodd 😂😂😂
Oh my, you actually got me. Thought you were calling me out. I love my straps at the end of a long workout deep into pull ups and deadlifts, my grip gets tired before my larger muscle groups. Glad you were kidding 🤙.
he had us in the first half
That pickles slap got me 😂
You changed my mind about straps
I think it's up to every individual personal choice. I used lifting straps for years, but recently switched to hook grip, and have had significant strength growth in hand, back and traps. Most of important for me I've had major improvement in my deadlifts.
Strap user here. I went from deadlifting 255 (no straps), 4x12. To lifting 405, 4x8 within a Month and half. Definitely helped me with getting stronger.
