This is great, but with droughts in the Midwest right now, my heart sank about how much water was wasted by running the water before she even got to the bathroom, and while undressing. I have learned a ton from these videos in general, and I appreciate them very much, I am just sad about wasting water.

Hi, @Traci063, yes the issue with water is something to consider, I wonder if you have any suggestions as to how we might change the prep for the shower/water temperature and other things in the space. We'd love to hear your ideas. Please email us at info@teepasnow.com to connect.

EXCELLENT! I have cared for many elders and had very little resistance, mostly joy that there was a helper that made them feel safe. When I arrived to help Mom on this trip, she was smelly, dirty & nails grown long, esp. toes. My mother is so resistant to bathing/showering and said her hot water had been out for months, so I started with wet wipes (even in the car). As I checked the water heater I saw that the heat was switched off, so I switched it on and it worked. When she finally consented, she couldn't figure out which knob turned the hot water on. Your techniques will help me kindly, gently work through her issues! Thank you so much.

Wow, perfect timing, again! Purfict video! As a PLwD, (person living w dementia)/brain change, the thought of me being seen/touched by anyone is not acceptable. I've lived alone my adult life, never had intimate relationship, past issues w PTSD, abuse issues.
*I especially appreciated: engaging/respecting wishes, choices, holding towel up for privacy, keeping underwear, bra on...the whole video! I would add listening to music(my kind)for myself. Thanks Teepa/PAC! 🦋🚿💗🌻

So glad to hear that Teepa has perfect timing again @karecreekmore889 (Creeky)! We will keep trying to get this information out into the work so that you do not have to worry about it, but that your care partners will all KNOW to respect you first and foremost. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My mom’s PT asked me to buy her a shower chair for her bathroom. I was advised to get one with a back and handles versus just a chair. She had done stability issues due to her Alzheimer’s.

Hi, @teresamoon9694, thanks for sharing. It sounds like the kind of chair suggested would be a good one for you mom.

My mom has never really had a shower in her lifetime, she always has had baths. I told the staff at the new LTC residence she’s moved to a mo. Ago. They have been wonderful at helping her have a bath in her actual small, regular bathtub. She’s happy & loves her carefree baths. On my suggestion, staff allow her to have. Few minutes to enjoy her bath - give time on her own & then come & wash her back etc .. I’m impressed & thrilled that they use the PAC method ( just by who they are & his they run) it’s a beautiful thing..
They don’t force her to shower p, nor do they force her to use the lift in big bath room. Nothing g is forced on her .. 🙏❣️

I really find that aides need more education on shower care for elders. So many times they go in to a resident room, ask if the person wants a shower, and when they say "no", they go on to the next room. This is happening frequently in my mother's care center and it is very frustrating. My mother says she can not handle the shower wand while washing or trying to get her hair washed and that she feels so cold and off balance. I have asked about shower chairs, so she feels more secure. I've asked about the blow up toilet stool aides that the person sits on (like a hemorrhoid ring) so the private parts can be in water as the body is sponged and the water flows down to the seat part, and staff look at me like I am asking the impossible. It makes me wonder what , or not, is taught in nursing school that my mother can't get a shower twice a week. I know medical aide companies make things that should be in every facility. As family we always have to follow up and get this done ourselves. I hope that this video is shared with sources that can carry the knowledge to those in charge of showering in the care facilities.

Hi, @mrs.e3909, I'm sorry to hear your frustration with the lack of education staff are receiving and that it makes it difficult for your mother. That shouldn't be happening. I'm wondering if you might want to talk to one of our consultants to figure out how you could connect with the staff and problem solve together. Please email consult@teepasnow.com or call us at 1-877-877-1671. I also wonder if you might want to check out these videos (www.youtube.com/@teepasnowvideos/search?query=bathing) or this one (shop.teepasnow.com/product/bathing-issues-family-friends/) in the meantime. Don't give up and let's see if we can help everyone feel more comfortable in this area of care.

This has been helpful especially using a towel and not let the water hit the body directly. My problem is I cannot sit on the floor - my knees are older than my 93 year old Mom😊. And I have to learn to ask permission.

    • @teepasnowvideos

Hi, @diannebanks7157 yes sitting on the floor can be difficult. You might want to consider a chair/stool (www.amazon.com/dp/B01HTI7SZ0?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) that is light and easy to carry as an alternative.
