So glad we got decent boss fights with the Witch King and the other few the Nazgûl. Definitely made up for the Tower and the Black Hand in the first game.
Andrew Shuboy couldn’t agree more. Even with all the upgrades the Witch-King is still a formidable opponent. Couldn’t stand how easy the climax battle was in the first one.
Witch King: Join us, brother Talion: I'm not your brother, pal. Witch King: I'm not your pal, buddy. Talion: I'm not your buddy, friend. Witch King: I'm not your friend, man. Talion: I'm not your man, chap.
I thought this was one of the most badass scenes and plot twists in a game with Talion becoming a Nazgul. It’s just a shame that the dlc has him killed. I wanted a Shadow of War sequel with Nazgul Talion getting revenge on Celebrimbor
@@FFGuy-eu7hrRemember the line from Gandalf in the Hobbit Botfa? "If he had a name, its long been forgotten, he would have been known only as a servant of evil, one of a number, one of nine" thats how I chose to think of it, his position under saurons will as his general wiped away every trace of his history.
As a fan of both Lord of the Rings and Zelda, I find it both hilarious and fantastic to know that Matt Mercer has voiced both Ganondorf and the Witch-king of Angmar. And he does both quite well.
That would be cool, but this version was actually quite accurate to how the books described him, minus the fact that in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, he appears with his hood flung back, having red, flaming eyes and a crown set upon his invisible head. He was like a surrogate for Sauron himself on the battlefield.
I don't think he actually died as early as people think; but rather when he was struck down his armor crumbled as his spirit was banished back to Barad Dur; in which he had to regain physical form. He definitely died when the one was destroyed though.
@@someguyontheinternet.3318 He died. It's in the books. "Merry snuck up behind him and plunged his sword into the back of Witch-king's knee. The sword, made in Westernesse centuries ago, broke the magic of Sauron that kept the Witch-king anchored to this world." and in an early draft of the fellowship gandalf says: "the one kind of sword the Riders fear." The Nazgul aren't actually dead, they are on the brink of dying. Sauron does not command human souls, they all go to the halls of Mandos. The rings keep them from dying and this blade apparently had the power to break the power of the nine rings in that respect. So the soul of the Witchking or what remains of it was taken to Mandos at that moment and the nine became eight. PS: The book is not 100% clear on that issue so you will find tons of debates about whether Eowyn killed him, Merry kill him or they didn't kill him at all. I just don't think that Tolkien would have emphasized his death scene that much if he was just whisked away to Sauron. Compared to how he described it when Glorfindel used the Bruinen to repel them.
They put so much effort into creating the backstory for Suldan, Helm Hammerhand and Isidulur, I was really disappointed they didn't create a back story for the Witch King. "You can't see inside me, there's nothing left" is such a cop-out in an otherwise excellent game.
Supposedly he was either a great king or a great nobleman of the numenorians who even before becoming a nazgul was a great sorcerer I think a back story on him would have been amazing but I wish they had come up with back stories for all of the nazgul
Yeah, I mean they already messed up the lore(Which personally I don't care Tolkien liked adaptations of his work) so they could of at least gave us something.
I think jts intentional since he is the most lotal servant of Sauron. As such, he does not have any shred of light left, he is just part of darkness now.
All Nazgul use to be human the witch king is the first to be corrupted making him the oldest and most powerful of the nine he’s saying he’s been a wraith for so long his soul is gone
Personally I thought The Hobbit movies were nothing but epic I mean granted they weren't quite so much as the Lord of the rings but they were definitely more epic then movies like the entire Harry Potter Saga or The Chronicles of Narnia
Shouldn't The Witch King be able to control Celibrimbor. I mean he is basically a necromancer himself with the power to raise the dead and dominate wraiths.
The Nazgûl were corrupted men, and a great elf-lord, even while a wraith himself, would ultimately outrank them in power. Keep in mind that the New Ring (only existing in this timeline) was not beholden to any of the other rings of power, not the nine, or even the one.
Talion had actually killed one of the 9, using the New Ring to break Sauron's hold over him, then killing him for good so they were down to 8. Tailon in this fight has the ring of the Nazgul he killed, so they wanted him. They knew it was only a matter of time until the ring corrupted him. Talion was extremely strong willed and thus he resisted the ring for a long time.
@@KnightsRealm98 Yeah I know. I like the movie and battle for middle earth designs better than the book version. And the voice from the movie was awesome. Very intimidating and powerful.
They tried to make the witch king fight interesting and it kind of is but the fight itself devolves to "dodge his pattern of attacks then hit him once, repeat until dead with the occasional execution included". Disappointing.
Aragorn fought him on the Weathertop. Same with Gandalf. Glorfindel banished him at the Bruinen. Also, in the book he just said: "No living man may hinder me." Gandalf isn't a man. Neither are Glorfindel, Merry or Eowyn.

This game absolutely trashes the lore of the ringwraiths. They have Harry Potter teleportation powers, ride actual fire breathing dragons, and are made to be characters well established to be born thousands of years after the ringwraiths existed. The Nazgul are an elder power from a past age, who fight with terror as their main weapon. But all Shadow of War ever cared about was flashy boss fights. The game doesn’t even have a cohesive story, really. It’s just three or four disparate storylines leading from one ridiculous boss to the next and vaguely intercepting at the end. The excellent gameplay is wasted on a sloppy and stupid game.
