It does look like it should go with any translation of your choosing. And I do like to look at different translations while studying to get to the meat and substance of the Word. I just ordered it before looking at this review so now I'm even more anxious to receive it. It sounds highly recommended as a single-volume commentary by yourself and others. And it probably does have to do with the reason you gave on conciseness. It will be the first commentary-style study aid I've gotten. I have ten or more study bibles but always look up commentaries online to help me. So Thank you.
I agree... comprehensive... I have large multi volume commentary sets... and I would Not call even those exhaustive.. how could any book or multiple books.. be exhaustive... ?.. John Himself stated if every thing were to be written even the whole world would not be able to contain it.... John was right... the more I study .....the more I find I have much to learn....
great review.. in the limited time... I have the original 1st edition.. I bought back almost 30 years ago.. but this looks like they indeed updated it.. and added more... mine does Not have the color maps.... I will definitely be looking into that commentary ....thanks....
I found a copy of this like new for 14 dollars and shipping total cost was a little less than I paid for my first edition of this commentary almost 30 years ago... that's how to beat inflation... PTL......
The first edition refutes Calvinism. I see that John MacArthur endorses this edition. Should I infer that the second edition no longer offers challenges to Calvinistic doctrine?
I ordered this commentary from ChristianBook.com. It was on back order with them and every other store I checked. I hope to order one soon. I have the Matthew Henry commentary. Do you think this one is better than the Henry commentary? If so, why? Also, I use the KJV Bible. I saw that this commentary is best used with the NKJV. Have you used the KJV to compare at all? I will say Matthew Henry is a more in depth thorough commentary while this one is more brief. This one gets to the point quickly. I have used it with KJV and it works great with it.
@@ImpactMinistries...thanks for the quick reply. I find the Henry version "rabbit-trailing" at times as well. I have always used the Nelson KJV Study Bible and compared my findings with the Henry. Thanks for the video review. I am watching some of your other videos now.
@George Smart.. in answer to your question regarding the Believers Bible Commentaey... when I got saved.. many years ago one of the first bible commentaries I got was a Matthew Henry large single Volume commentary.. I liked it so much that I went and got the Matthew Henry study bible as well.. I still use the study bible periodically.. but this study bible was a massive bible for its time.. a whopping 2760 pages or so.. I thought this study bible Must be good with all these notes in it... some of the pages have 2 inches of bible text and 6-7 inches of commentary..!.. I used it for a couple of years... Matthew Henry is great... but I discovered that it did not answer a lot of my questions... in regards to facts figures or clarifying the meaning of the text.. He did bring me closer to God however.. as he would bring out the spiritual meaning of the pasages.. and how this applies to a christian's walk...for that mindset... Henry is the best.. so if you want a commentary.. to help you in your prayer life.. or to have a closer walk with God.. then Matthew Henry is the best one... anyone can tell just by reading a small portion of his writing.. how much on fire for God he was.... I love it.. but I found when I really wanted to get understanding and grow.. in my knowledge such as the culture and how it related to certain peoples actions... and geneologies.. and other things.. such as who was the men Lamech was refering to in Gen 4:26-27.....?..or why in the KJV version Acts 17:22 reads "too superstitious".. but in many other translations.. it reads "very religious"....I wanted this explained to me... so I use a lot of other commentaries now... but.. Matthew Henry will definitely steer you closer to God.. if that is what you want mostly...
Hi and thank you for the review. I have this commentary in the first edition and I love it. I understand that the second edition has about 200 additional pages. Can you tell me if more was added to the commentary or were there just 200 pages of maps added?
@MsOliveLeaf... I was wondering the same thing.. after looking at this video... I think I can say it looks like more text was added.. Not just maps.... I found a used one.. so I am ordering it.....
@@jeffcarlson3269 That's great....Get whichever edition you can. I only paid $10. at Half Price Books. The 2nd edition brand new was $40. at a local book store.
@@MsOliveLeaf well... I will not purchase the 1st edition since I have already had that one for 30 years... I am buying the 2nd edition on Faith that it is Not the same exact thing.. I was hoping to get a precise answer to this.. before I bought the 2nd edition.. since my library is already full of items I have bought on faith.. only to be deceived...time to start unloading my duplicates on ebay I guess..
WHY would you use any water downed version of the true word of GOD kjv. Other fake versions leave out or and twist scripture. Look it up. Also the LORD is not the author of confusion, so when everyone is reading other versions that causes apeople. Imagine everyone doing a bible study with all kinds of perverse version. Thats confusion. No one would understand. Pray about it please. I didnt realize it many years ago but than i prayed and the LORD showed me.

Would this work with an niv and a csb bible?
Yes I believe it works well with any. Its recommended to use with Nkjv and Kjv I believe. But I have used it with Csb also
