Sobre el principio tengo que decir que me pasó lo mismo pero seguí leyendo porque me lo recomendó una persona muy fiable para mí en cuestión de literatura. Es también psicoanalista como tú. Gracias.

I’m glad you recommended this. I started awhile ago and have been slow going after the first 50 pages, opting for some other books as I consider it. Your review convinced me to go back to it
@@justjuanreader Ok Juan I finally finished! Gosh - I can't remember the last time I was this mixed on a book. It's so deeply perceptive, so achingly funny, and the characterizations are so dense and mult-faceted, but as you said here it does a lot of telling. As its regimented descriptions of rituals and processes and personalities mounted, I got less enamored with it, even as there are individual passages so truthful they made my spine tingle. You mentioned this too, but I didn't love the structure of the book. It seemed too preoccupied with spacing out and layering hints and puzzle pieces of the characters past trauma, often diverging from something I was more interested in for an event that was pre-determined(and pre-teased!). It was a very good book, but so close to transcendent that I can't help feel disappointed in these little writing mishaps. I think it works best as a perceptive satire of our bullshit American culture and a portrayal of complicated modern marriage, and not as much a generation spanning Steinbeckian Saga. I would still highly recommend it.
