I come to this interview every 6 months, relistening carefully to what Patrice is saying. He's at his most authentic here, and his regrets are transparent with Marc; the story of unjustful charge and prison time, how it affected his career (he couldn't go to Canada because of this...), how it changed his worldview, his relations with women. He said multiple times that he was a terrible misogynist before meeting Von, which is logical. For years, the man just couldn't reconciliate himself with what happened; he transformed his bitterness into comedy, and he did almost well. All these opportunities that he missed because of his integrity, the story of his mother still taking care of him, and him, in front of her, realizing that he failed her. That one makes me, a grown ass man, cry every time. Patrice should have become big, bigger than those wannabee dating podcasts like Fresh and Fit, Pearly Things, or Whatever. His takes were original, fresh, precious. Rest in Peace, Patrice; you became the father that you never had, and not for one, but for a legion, not once, but for now many years.

10:29 "I generally don't like living in a world where being what a man is, is a horrible thing, and no matter what a woman is, is a wonderful thing." He saw it coming and he knew it would get this bad. Truly prophetic. The irony is that he didn't live to see this come true. Almost as if he managed to avert the reality we're living that he prophesized.

Galt's Gooch Bucky nicely said. I like your perspective. Saying you're colorblind is ignorant. We live in a physical world and physically I'm white and black people are black. No denying this, and pretending like it doesn't exist or matter is racist in itself. The most non racist is the person calling blacks black and whites white. Simple as that. Accept stereotypes because they exist for a reason. Because they can be true sometimes. Do all black people steal? Fuck no; but do a lot of black people steal fuck yes lol. Its not racist it's the truth. Just like how I feel this urge to make a comparison about white people hit fuck it. We all know of stereotypes about white people. Do I NEED to mention one just because I said one about blacks? Why should I? An intelligent person gets my point without the comparison.
Get my point? Fuck race and fuck a reason to ignore it. DONT ignore it. Embrace that shit my nigga

Liberty City El I hear you dude. I am a fair skinned woman and I am honest about MY PERSONAL practices in life. People try to shame me and put me down constantly. They're absolutely ridiculous. Having said that; you do see the huge pothole cutting off traffic, right? You're sick of the bullshit. "No, im not rasist, i love black people" That bullshit, right? On the other side of it: white! White? Uncolored people(for lack of a better term) all get lumped together under white. We're not! I get alot of "you wouldn't understand because you're white."
That statement puts me in this box filled with Disneyland, rainbows, and privileges I've never even heard of.
Somewhere there needs to be a compromise. The light side needs get real and stop blowing smoke up everyone's ass & the dark side needs to stop assuming white=candyland.

The World at large just got smaller. This man was a true genius. He was the first professional comedian to make me laugh out loud since Schimmel & Carlin. Hicks made me 'think.' That's what Patrice did, AND could make you laugh out loud. Mark knew he was one of kind too. I used to look at him when he and Patrice were on TCWCQ, and you can see him looking at Patrice like he was ALWAYS getting to something relevant, and funny - which of course, he did - and made it look lie a random thought - which, many times it was. The Man had big balls and an even bigger brain, and behind the 'race issues' (which he justifies with complete clarity too, by the way - he isn't wrong about what he is trying to say - he understands the dynamics of colonization and slavery better than any historian or philosophy professor) he probably had an even bigger heart. Too bad it was 'enlarged.' I know his health was not good, but I still wonder, did he start going too deep, like Hicks? Whether he did himself in, or they did it to him - The good ones always leave too soon. Rest In Peace, Patrice. I'm gonna miss him. You just felt smarter listening to Patrice in interviews like this one. Thank you Mark Maron and Black Phillip.

Yes, Patrice was extremely wise it was a gift. I didn't grow up in the USA and I was around different races and cultures all my life so I could never understand the racial tension until Patrice described it. I still don't agree because forgiveness is essential to moving forward...but I finally understood it from his eyes. No one has really been able to paint their point of view clearly like him. His gift reminds me so much of when Jesus would tell parables.

The beginning of this fucks me up. You're not irrelevant Patrice. Your voice and trumpet laughter is booming through my workshop speakers. I recommend you all the time to other dudes that I know you can improve like I have. You won't be forgotten as long as I'm alive. You're more relevant than any other comic. Carlin was profound but his words aren't relevant to the average Joe everyday like Patrice's words are. Rest in peace man, I'll miss you forever even tho I've never met you and I started binging your stuff in January this year. 6 months and the words have already made such an impact. It's sad that Patrice can't enjoy our support since he's been dead. If he was alive .. bro. Patrice would be a fuckin God. The champion against Cancel Culture and all that.
