I did not ask for a discount but, as I have bought a fair number of watches from him before, he offered to include the taxes in the the retail price. I love this piece and it is destined to be a permanent part of my collection.
@@m4xQ In the UK I use an AD called First Class Watches. They have a 'Make Us an Offer' button on their website and you can simply communicate by email, avoiding all the face-to-face awkwardness. (Sometimes you have to just request a price match but use the online form to ask for a discount, saying you like their service, want to buy from them again and not a rival, etc.). On Seikos I have had discounts of 17-30% depending on the model. I think a lots of ADs would do this by email if you write to them. Hope this helps!

The SPB317 was my most-worn watch last year. It nails everything I want from a classic Seiko diver and caused me to re-evaluate my hatred of 4:30 dates. Would I have liked it to be a bit cheaper? Of course. Would I have liked it more with one of these record-style bezel inserts? Maybe...
Limited to the amount they can sell. I'd call the dial color Champaign. Sometimes I think Seiko should change their slogan to "You don't just buy a watch; you buy a project!" But I'm glad you finally got a decent movement in the 6r35 lottery.
Said I wont buy one more Seiko diver after purchasing the SPB299 as the last watch for 2022, but picked this up couple of days back 😂. The dial is different to the one on SPB301, this is more glacier with a grey/silver hue compared to the pristine white on the willard. Also, this dial is more glossy and plays with the light more. I paid slightly lower with a discount but this one comes with the Nato along with the bracelet so the price was justified. Mine runs +8 seconds a day, and will definitely regulate it after a month or so once the movement breaks. I have had no problems with my other five 6R movements to date.

Let's just do a quick check-list: - Stunning and unique dial ✅✅ - Unique case-shape with excellent finishing and pedigree ✅ (I'm tired of stock-standard Rolex-esque dive watch silhouettes) - Reliable in-house movement with 70hrs power reserve ✅ - Excellent lume ✅ - Official 'Diver's' rated/certification ✅ - Versatile size/good wearability ✅ - Big-name brand with 100 years of history ✅ ... And this describes a bunch/most of Seiko's Prospex line. Show me another dive watch/brand in this price category that offers all of this, and then tell me Seikos are over-priced (but, actually do... I'm always on the look-out for hidden gems! 😂) IMO no one comes close. It's the unique and varied case shapes that do it for me.
Great review! I think this might be the best Seiko diver reissue yet. This appears to wear exceptionally well and has a hard to achieve combo of versatility and uniqueness. This specific model is my favorite so far, but I’m curious to see what else they do with this slim turtle format. On another note, the thinner lugs seem to allow it to take to 3rd party straps pretty well, unlike the thick, squared off lugs of the 63MAS. Aside from the tropic strap at ~3:44, have you tried other 3rd party straps on this?
Thanks. This has DIASHIELD coating, so the case metal will not match 100% with aftermarket bracelets. But the clasp should fit the mm300 divers clasps with quick adjust.
Thank you for mentioning that. I think i didn’t phrase my question clearly. I’m wondering if the proportions of the lugs on this model work better with an array of 2-piece leather, rubber or fabric 3rd party straps than the 63MAS. The issue with the 63MAS was the chunky lugs made most 3rd party straps seem puny, like they didn’t belong, unlike the OEM rubber straps.
hmmm yours is good! I forgot to mention the bezel insert is thinner. So it creates a lip as the insert is sunk in. I think the anodized aluminum bezels are thicker with less lip on the rim of the bezel. Small detail. And the case backs are slightly different with some brushing and polish surface difference. So minor I forgot to mention.
Nice watch, but have enough Seiko divers. Like the NATO with a 7.5 inch wrist, can pull it off. You're correct about the date, if they took it off it will lose sales. Maybe you and I my prefer it, but others wouldn't, especially if it's a one watch person.
I'm a Seiko fan though they have some stupid issues like bezel alignment and unreliable/ inaccurate time keeping. I have a 6R35 in one of my watches and will never make that mistake again. Watches at this price point should be reasonably accurate. Had mine regulated and 6 months later, it's losing time again.....
Mine was running about 10 seconds fast which I was very happy with now about 20-30 slow. Not happy. Any ideas why this would be. I did wear it on a short flight (3 hours) and did not put it through X-ray but had to go through detector. Could this have been the cause?
Amazing collection of Seiko's. I know this is late but you reference the Lumabrite being applied thinly. Can you go in more depth of how good or bad it is?
Very attractive and stylish, but waaaay too expensive for 6R35 under the hood with a bezel that doesn’t line and two microadjusts on a pin and collar bracelet.
Beautiful watch. It’s a shame that they use that movement in just about every watch under 2K. I don’t think it’s a good movement at that price. It doesn’t match the watch. I have that movement and have been dissatisfied with it.
8KX is a bit of a stretch, I think. $1300 is hardly a successor to a sub $200 extremely basic pro-diver. For whatever reason this range just doesn't do it for me. MM200R makes up for its mediocre specs with perhaps the best looking, best finished case on a diver under $1500. These look like fancy turtles. I do however give Seiko credit for the date. They have no good options. They have to have lume for every hour, but the dial is too small, and so it was either put it at 4:30, or awkwardly shove it into the minute track. Correct orientation makes a world of difference for the 4:30 date, and it was the right call. Even the Bathyscaphe is ruined by its cheap and lazy looking crooked date.
On the wrist should be doing +4s though. I've tested many watches in daily life on my wrist and 99% of the time the on the wrist performance is those 2 positions averaged out.
They made a limited edition mountain glacier on strap. Once it sold out instantly they re-released it on bracelet for hundreds less same dial color. People were pissed. It went far enough that seiko was offering refunds for those who were unhappy with the Limited.
Sorry Seiko but for what they are charging in today’s market they need better movements. I’m a former fanboy but the increase in prices coupled with lack of qc has really soured me on them. For the same money the micro brands are putting a hurt on Seiko.
Has a 6R35 that Seiko refuses to QC, oil, or calibrate even on $1300 watches, no thanks. And seems the bezel still sucks. Not when $500 microbrands with Swiss movements exist that are QC, oiled and regulated. And they come with far superior bezels. Seiko are the worst value above $500.
@@bradd3840 dude my King Samurai has the most misaligned bezel you could possibly have. As soon as you get close to alignment, it clicks into the next position. Luckily there’s a lot of play on the bezel, so I could carefully line it up before it clicks, but it’s like right on the edge. So now the first thing I focus on when seeing a Seiko is the bezel alignment lol

What seiko do prefer overall 62 mas, spb301, or the SBDC167?

it is decent lume as seiko lumibright is strong. But it wont have that staying power like the deep filled seikos.

I’m happy that they made the case smaller but I wish they made it a cushion case instead.
Sold my Special Edition Turtle and got the LE Slim Turtle. No regrets!
Unless it's a Grand Seiko, no Seiko is worth 1K+.

no turtle has a cushion case. This doesn't. That is why it should be called 8KX. Because it is based of the 6105 -8000 and it is a proSPEXXX
8KX? This is a great looking watch, but has no resemblance to an SKX other than the word "Seiko" written on the dial...
8K for 8000 as it is based on the 6105-8000 and X for the PROSPEX version of that 8000. I made up the 63MAS name as well. These are just my nicknames
