Friend at college I was sharing SRV music with played this album for me when it came out. Got the cassette and loved to drive through campus blasting this song.
Heard this when I was in "lockdown" at boarding school back in 1989. Loved it then and I still love it now. Robben's playing seems to effortlessly bridge jazz and blues, exceptional in both genres, that he is. So much expression on this track, brilliant musicianship by RF and his cohorts here!
Blinding virtuousity that after all the years of listening to Ford's balance of technical brilliance and emotional expression still brings tears to my ears. And I'm still trying to get it down but I know it will probably always be beyond my reach because I'm not Robben Ford.
The closest we get to the Yellowjackets from Robben these days. Don't get me wrong, I love his Blues stuff. Saw him at Mohegan Sun earlier this year and I'll be going to see him again at least once (MA or NH).... That said, his fusion stuff will always hold a special place.
Strongly disagree. This is maybe my favorite Robben Ford song and Vinnie came damn close to ruining it. He way, way, way overplays the song. What you wanted was a strong driving backbeat, with a few flourishes here and there. Instead Vinnie is all over the place and really detracts from the song. Vinnie is a great drummer, but he is young here and simply didn't play what was appropriate for the song.
my guitar teacher told me to listen to robben ford , he plays happy blues, now I know what he meant!
perfect description ahah
That's cos it's a major blues

One of my all time favorite guitar recordings up there with Michael Bloomfield's Maryann..

7 months without a comment...gotta fix that. Such a great song, and Robben is just...no words.
Seeing him play live in a small club a couple decades back was awesome. I really need to catch him again when he comes through my area.

This was great playing in the spirit of Hadley Hockensmith and Larry Carlton
