With the engine the VOLVO RM8A/B it could send the Viggen to mach 2.1(730.3ms-2 572.5kmh), and it got a single engine and a single seat which means less maintenance and manpower to got down, and less weight, heat etc, and expensive again that was a outstanding and marvelous to nations that was not in nato/warsaw pact (bc they probably didn’t have the money to join or be a active member) and the SAAB-JAS planes are one not if the best of the best of the best or superior in any way i believe. And keep in mind all of that in 1972 when the same county hadn’t even got colored tv until a decade later.
