    I’m intrigued. A friend posted a vague preview of what he was doing with it so I came here to learn more. All I know is that I have a huge selection of sounds and instruments on my computer and I often feel paralyzed by all of the options at my fingertips. A back-to-basics, reliable, portable tool sounds like a great way to change things up. Just not sure if I’m ready to leave the comfort of my box.

    • @SimpleTrax
      @SimpleTrax 3 года назад +1

      Exactly. This is too deep with such a small screen, takes ages to edit stuff. I'd get it if I had no other gear and travel often, but for home use, no. There are ton of synth engines and features, but do you need those synth engines? Most often the answer is no.

    • @soffter
      @soffter  3 года назад +3

      @@SimpleTrax I feel where you’re coming from! It’s def apples and oranges though, the M8 might work really well for some people who can get into it’s headspace,
      And others may just find something like a DAW or other hardware more useful.
      Personally I like how you can get really interesting things with this system - especially chopping breaks - that I would do totally differently on a daw
      So I get totally different results, and to me, that’s worth it !

    I had an op-1 when they were sold for 700 euro's (couple of years ago) , the dsp algoritms sounded like shit

    Wasn't convinced about the M8 Tracker before this video. Now I am even less. 10 Minutes of clicking-sounds and numbers on a screen before the first real sound comes out of this thing. (Even if the sounds are really good.) Thank you @soffter. Good video. Not your fault. But to me it appears that the only advantage (over an polyend tracker for example) is that it is small and that is simply not enough for the price and the workflow that looks much more like programming a mars rover than making music.

    • @rorz999
      @rorz999 3 года назад +5

    • @soffter
      @soffter  2 года назад +1

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i'm not disagreeing with ya, but how many buttons do ya really use on a computer ? there's a robust midi input that rivals elektron gear too !
      I'm obviously biased but i think the streamline in workflow from both hardware and software is nice in this case, and can be really fast and inspiring if ya learn it, like just about anything !

      There were a few hiccups and it's not on the same standard as loopop, but the vid is definitely more thought out and structured than some of the university video lectures I've seen (and regrettably paid for) in my life. ;)
      The style of tracker software writted for M8 is based quite heavily on LSDJ, so it might be worth checking some videos or web docs about that software if you're interested. Happy music making!
