Most people people who stayed didn't have vehicles. Most left afterwards. A lot of people don't drive vehicles for a variety of medical and other reasons.
Not everyone has the means to prep for a storm or leave an area. Where do people go who live paycheck to paycheck? It's not like they can just take off and go to a hotel in another state. I'm sure people who did get out are racking up credit card bills like nobody's business.....it's easy to sit on RUclips and judge people but until you are in their shoes you have no idea the hardships something like this causes.
People sometimes laugh at me as a "Prepper," ... storing two quiet i-generators and enough food and fuel for 21 comfy days but, last night I had movie night with popcorn, .. after a delicious supper all on generator power .. let them laugh, at Preppers.
No money is likely the problem. And when the media keep showing pope blacks the pace will be the Ben slower. The government should have stations in these regions at least stocked with non-perishable necessities.

Did this storm hit them by surprise? I live 200 miles from the coast and I was prepared for the storm. Full tank of gas, food that does not need to be heated, fully charged flashlights.
No it didn't but no one knew for sure which way the storm was going until last minute . And let's not forget rent is due and alot of people are still just getting back to work so resources are tight at the moment for most school is only 3 week in school supplies and uniforms coast so it's a lot to handlew

I have prepared for storms in the past, first get fuel and other necessities. During Katrina had a full tank first . Lasted over 3 weeks
