    Titan makes up 96 % of all the mass orbiting Saturn, including the rings.

    • @thebel89
      @thebel89 Год назад +1

      Titan is also one of the most habitable worlds, its similar to early Earth. There could be life, but thick atmosphere slows down the research. It has clouds, but they are made of methane, not water vapour. If you looked them from the surface, they would appear black, they don't let any light through. The clouds are much taller than the clouds on Earth, they can reach 40 km, while highest clouds on Earth are just 18 km high. The atmosphere is made of nitrogen and organic compunds, like methane and ethane, and some acetylene. This is why it looks yellowish

    The way the moons drop down to sit on the ground is way more satisfying than I expected. You did a good job with it.
    My favourite here is Hyperion. It's goofy, oblong and pockmarked, so it reminds me of the pumice stone I use when washing my feet 😜

    It's so interesting how sudden the shift to 'perfectly spherical' is at the upper end of the scale range... I would have expected it to be more gradual.
    [P.S. what an incredible visualization!! Good work indeed...]

    It’s mindblowing that we can detect a moon that’s just 600m to 2km in size from so far away. It would be cool to visit those small moons as you could walk around them in no time, it’ll be like having your own little island.

    .. I did not know some of the smaller moons of Saturn had Nordic names. Which brings up a question, what is the naming convention for Saturn satillites?
    I know Jupiter's started with lovers of Jupiter/Zeus, then ...was it Neptune that has moons named after literary characters such as Shakespearian characters Miranda and Oberon.

      At first they named the moons after Titans of Greek mythology, but as there were only 7 Titans, they had to change that. They started naming them after Norse, Inuit and Gallic names.
