James truly are an extraordinary band. They are every bit as fresh, exciting and relevant as they were way back in the early days. Most bands lose their appeal over time, all their songs begin to sound the same. That can’t be said of the mighty James. Still melodically heart stirring and lyrically astute. I’ll be buying their album and hope I get to see them live this year. I’ve loved this band since I was a teenager. They’ve seen me through a horrible divorce, losing my brother on his 26th birthday and some of the happiest times in my life. When people think of great bands and artists they think perhaps of the Beatles, Queen, David Bowie; in my opinion James stands up beside them, perhaps even apart from them slightly because they are touched with such a beautiful heart and true genius. I like a lot of bands, James are the only band I love.
This song is so relevant, so moving, so beautiful, so human.

Dear Jack! I really liked your words about this band and this beautiful song, but ... you won't believe it! I DIDN'T KNOW them ANOTHER A MONTH AGO. Although I'm 46, in 1992-1999 I played in Kiev in a rock band that played something similar to the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Creedence, Tom Petty, U2, A-ha, Depeche Mode, Kinks, but I didn't know ANYTHING about the JAMES group. As the immortal HOLLIS sang "such a shame" ...

James amazing as usual I’m 49 been a fan ever since the early days I won’t stop being one on my favourite bands
I've just shown this video to my son (who has ASD). I used it to show him the full spectrum of colours at the side of the screen & to also discuss how each colour can represent a different emotion (emotional state) and how some people can sometimes have two or three of these feelings at the same time, whereas people on the spectrum can have a lot more conflicting emotions to deal with at one time. We also discussed like in the video, that feelings going in (colours of the lyrics) , also come back out of us & we have the ability to pass these on to other people. He may only be 13 years old, but he's taught me more about emotions than what I've taught him & we grow together.

This band possibly saved my life. I was in a very dark period of my life when my mother passed from ovarian cancer when she was only 48. It broke me. I was just looking for someone to give me a reason. Any reason. Then I stumbled across Ring The Bells. The song described perfectly how I felt. Like a lightning bolt. I no longer feel my God is watching over me. I adore this band. All other music is a distant second.
The song is fantastic... and then suddenly, those few trumpet tones midway lifts the song to whole new level of fantastic!
Absolutely fantastic! The more I hear it, the more I love it. Just can't wait for the album.

@@Tralby19 It was _"Next Lover"_ back on '92. Back then, at least where I live,¹ there was one radio station that played music that was pretty much all over the place. Never would have heard it on the average stations here. When I bought the album, _"Seven,"_ I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was but one of many great songs. 😊 The following year was _"Laid."_ That album solidified it for me! 🧡
I don't know why, but at the time (and for a few years after) I assumed _"Seven"_ was their first album. I can only guess that the distraction of life in general prevented me from even considering looking back for earlier albums. Of course, eventually the internet helped a lot with that.

@@CaesiusX was Very similar with me.. I was 15 in 92' - I heard ring the bells and bought the album 7-which I thought was their debut album at the time, so yeah seven is where it started for me too.

I do love James. They always attempt to do something original. This is their unique sound but the structure is different and very interesting. I knew these guys in Whalley Range in 1984/85 when Larry was tutoring a friend of mine. Is Larry back with them on this ? I'm not hearing him.. He's a brilliant guitarist.
The lyrics on this are the only let down but then I rarely agree with left wing politics but they don't detract too much from a great melody and top production.
James is not about left/right. I hear critisim of woke and lockdown in this song, just to give an example where the don't agree to left mainstream.

I agree. And with the other comments about whether you choose to interpret the lyrics as affirmative or negative. I just think either way that the issues Tim writes about are starting to be increasingly America slanted. There is racism and corruption everywhere.
