I absolutely adore the opening! I wish it lasted longer: current buds and violet leaf combined with a solid amber humming at the background, it creates such a vibrant effect, like only vintages do - it feels like it's engaging with many parts of the brain at the same time and creates emotional reactions in them. Truly multifaceted creation. I think, Roberto and Christopher are on the same page in interpreting feelings/sensations into scents, and this is how this collaboration is so successful. The scent memory from Roberto's childhood mentioned in a little booklet which came with the perfume, makes perfect sense. Who would have thought that narcissus, leather, amber resin (botanically balsamic and sea-like at the same time) and pine tar can together create such a fabulous harmony? I have had my bottle for almost 9 months now and find that cooler weather brings the best in it. It's interesting how you found an echo of Fahrenheit in it, I found a shadow of the vintage Magie Noir's base. Magic.
Great review, and I totally agree with your thoughts about the limited run. This is one of those rare cases where it makes sense. As an artist, I’m sure there’s always a sense of “what if nobody buys it”….
Great review, Pep. For whatever it's worth, I'd say you've got a great nose - I get very similar experiences when wearing it. I don't get a "mushroom" note per se but I reckon what many are calling mushrooms is really just a variant of earthiness ~ after all, if you smell mushrooms they more or less are just dampness/mustiness mixed with remnants of whatever soil they were born of. For me, what I appreciate about Rauque (and other AC - Art Collaborative - sauces) is... it rests firmly in that area of a nicely rounded collection for those occasional moments when your brain (nose) demands (needs?) something different, something rare, something left of center... when that beckons: it's perfection. **Love your take on the violet leaf section... I started laughing while watching because it is in fact Fahrenheit at that precise moment where the petrol accord dies and the florals enter from stage left! Well played, sir 👊🏼
RAN to this video! Im a very recent fan and I was hooked since your review for The Afternoon of a Faun. I had just looked up this fragance today and thought it would be amazing if you did a video on it! I am very lucky
I was fortunate enough to get a few 1ml samples from Lucky Scent but have tried and failed to purchase a bottle. Apparently missed it again! 😫. Oh well. Life goes on. But great description. It’s a very engaging wear. I do recall a mushroom-like note but nothing terribly prominent. Also, I could easily have been influenced by the note listing.
I was lucky and found it from an obscure pharmacy shop in Italy. I very much get a mushroom note, but don't remember getting a Lagerfeld feeling in the dry down, now I have to wear it again to see. Like you said, fragrance perception really can change, a lot, over time.
Got my bottle just a few days ago (from Jovoy Paris) and absolutely love it after the first couple wearings, opening included. Need more time with it, of course, but rarely am I this pleased with a blind buy... Get the mushrooms early on, then it goes more earthy/damp leaves. Great review!
Great review! It's a really great perfume, but like most rare/hyped perfumes it's not ESSENTIAL, there are always alternatives. Your review captured that well! I don't get any literal mushroom note but I do get an earthy mustiness that I could imagine as the environment where mushrooms grow, like a mushroom cave.
The ambrarome and the myrrh give that animalic magic, i pick up the ambrarome from the opening, its a lovely dirty musk. Prin's Burmite Honey has that same purr but is a dirty honey. I get a bit of Derby from rauque, kicking myself for not getting his musk one.
Excellent breakdown of this scent, and you're right it does seem to change. I was initially enamoured by Rauque until suddenly I tired of it, I realised I have scents that are similar that I prefer to wear that aren't limited releases and not such a high price point too. RG's previous release Oeilleres to me is the better of his line. Oeilleres has a place in my collection that only it does. Rauque gave me what New York Intense did, a short love that faded too briefly. The bottle is beautiful but not enough to keep for keepsake. I'll be selling my 2 bottles in the new year to fund whatever I have in my sights, it won't be a miss. Pleasant, well made but not a wow must have.
Thanks for your review! I was really curious about this one 😊

Blind bought it. I love the beginning and the middle. The dry down I don't like. I'll keep trying it.

Only during one of my wearings have I picked up a distinct mushroom smell. I do get sort of a damp earth vibe tho which could be the shrooms?
