A kilogram of jasmine oil can cost $5,000. But to get that small amount of oil, harvesters need to handpick over 5,000 jasmine buds. Once the flower blooms, producers in India quickly process it into one of the priciest absolute oils in the world. Today, jasmine oil is an integral ingredient in many luxury perfumes, including Dior's J'Adore, Guerlain's Shalimar, and Chanel No. 5. So, what does jasmine oil smell like? And why is it so expensive?

It is nice to see Indian business as a source for foreign luxurious perfumes and that India's jasmine reserves are so much of value to other countries.

It's nice seeing it produced in a mostly mechanized facility that looks clean and safe as well.

Wow what a beautiful and laborious activity to harness this gift of God. I recently ordered 5ml of Jasmine oil at around $45 US. But even opening the tiny bottle, the scent lingered on my senses for ten minutes without even turning the bottle upside down. So to me it’s worth every dollar for such earthly gifts.

Jasmin flowers have an exquisite but delicate perfume, that place would smell fantastic, the flower must be picked before sunrise: see Susskind.

This is what I know as Arabian Jasmine. I’ve heard people refer to Grand Duke of Tuscany as Sambac. In my experience they both smell the same. Grand Duke is definitely stronger.

If only 5000 buds are required to produce 1 kg of essential oil it would not be that pricey. In fact it needs about 1 million buds to produce 1 kg of essential oil that is why it is pricey

5000 buds equate to 1 kg of flower buds (not oil).
1 kg of oil is 1000*5000=5M flower buds.

In this video they say he gets flowers for 500 rupees a kg, so to make get 1 ton he has to pay 5lakh rupees, and if 1 kilo of jasmine equals 5000 dollars and one dollar being 83 it only makes 4.15 lakh and no one will do business like that, either that guy is exaggerating the amount of flowers being used or lying the actual profit he is making by selling it

Whatever the flower prices are there they are daily vary from day to day that’s the reason one day it can be 800 and other day it can be 100 also depends on Market supply and Muhurthams and festivals in India
