  • In this video, England international player Charlotte Bardsley explains how to improve your footwork and movement.
    This is an area of the game where many of us struggle. We often get too planted and then have to reach out for balls, rather than moving, resulting in poor quality shots.
    Charlotte explains how to use your feet, knees, hips and core to move quickly for both small and big movements across the table. There’s also plenty of very impressive footage of Charlotte doing footwork drills.
    If you’re an older player, you may not have the same range of movement (I certainly don’t), but Charlotte shares some fundamentals which are applicable for players of any age.

    thanks Tom, great video! I liked that at the end you explained (something) about how this can be utilized by older players...(an example of an older player benefiting from this work would have been nice). Also, perhaps some training ideas of how to get better w/ this.
    Can you also put out a similar video to this on improving reaction speed (eg., tricks and training methods to improve my reaction time from ready position to a ball hit to either side). i'm sure that this topic starts with just getting into the ready position in the first place of course....this would be really helpful to me. thanks :)

    Hi Tom, thanks for another great video! I was wondering if you as experienced coach have met people with tennis elbow injuries? How we can prevent or even heal such things without quitting table tennis? It would be nice to have video about injuries we can meet in table tennis.

      Go to a physiotherapy clinic to see a physiotherapist and a kinesiologist.

      do you know what caused this?@@TomLodziak

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@nonamed56 Partly it's just getting older. We all get aches and pains. But for me specifically, I had quite a bad knee injury when I was a kid, which required multiple surgeries. So I have spent all my teenage years and adult life dealing with this. I suspect I have unconsciously used my body in such a way to protect my knee, and this has caused issues in other areas (i.e. hips). But this is life, and I just have to get on with things, and manage my body as best as I can.

    Thank you for the useful tips. Just a curious / silly question if I may… If say I m old and fat, not really able to move fast, but I can play competitively in either L or R hand. Is it legal to hold bats on each hand at the same time and position more at the centre, then I can cover a wider range with little movement… 😂? If I attach different types of rubber on each side (4 sides… SP, LP, inverted rubber…)… will be fun 😅

      no that's not legal lol

      Holding 2 bats at the same time? Isn't that the way it's supposed to be played? I fail to understand what your question is?

    Best footwork actually depend on your body weight, age, exercise and stamina.. When you became older your fit isn't same like youngers age...i can compare when i'm 12-15 years old and now 42 years...definitely i got so tired and pain especially around knee area. You can push yourself to play like youngers player but the risk for injure and pain is more then there.

    Kind of the kangourou steps , thanks to Charlotte and Tom. When a player relies on his arm lenght , it lacks precision and power .
