I also really like his design. He's not historically accurate at all, but his design tells a story that fits his role in Fate. Just like how his noble phantasm is supposed to represent the Epic of Gilgamesh rather than a feat he achieved or a weapon associated with him, his design represents who he is in the story rather than a recreation/reimagining of the real life Gilgamesh.
His whole design is gold, he has gold armor, golden hair, golden throne, Gate of Babylon is gold, he is covered and surrounded by gold. Gold represent ego, arrogance, pride, it is a status symbol, the top of the top, the most valuable thing in this world, and he's swimming in it. His design tells me that he is arrogant and prideful and his arrogance and pride is justified. He'll tell you that he's the strongest and he'll prove it.
And then we have Caster Gilgamesh, while he still has jewellery and pieces of gold around him, he is no longer swimming in gold. He is a changed man, a humbled man, he is literally shirtless. He has given everything he has for his kingdom. He doesn't feel the need to show how powerful he is by covering himself in gold, because his strength is the strength of the people of Uruk.
Edit: Ignore the people in the comments making fun of your voice, just keep doing what you're doing
Really interesting analysis of his design, I don't have much of an artist eye myself so I never picked up on the contrast between his Archer and Caster forms. Though his gold adornments representing his ego can also be seen in his choice to disregard them when fighting anyone other than Saber in Stay Night. No other task is meaningful enough for them in the present.
He's gold from top to bottom because Nasu is a Saint Seiya fan and based Gil off the Gold Saints. Grand Lancer in FGO is another example.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is older then Enuma Elish book itself.
The book yes, not the story itself. The book was made when the story of the enuma elish was discovered and written down yes yoga is considered one of the oldest stories, but the story of enemy is literally his creation myth the myth of their gods and religion so even if the story came second to the epic of Gilgamesh, it’s technically the first in their mythology in their very stories and myths you said to be one of the first recorded kings of Babylon there could’ve been a king before him and that’s when the story was written
"Book" Lol
@@jasondobbins9735 Right, thank you for the clarification, the discrepency seemed odd to me.
@@somecanadian522 no problem happy to clarify also I’m sorry for the spelling errors. I’m using a voice typer
Until he hears a highscooler say "I am the bone of my sword" lmao
Until that red hear high schooler saw Gilgamesh pull that long sword😂
@@Denjo. So true
No wonder he respects his weapon so much, it's the tale that predates him.
Are you feeling trapped yet with no escape but the cornfields?
The great forget me not event.
What is my mythical first name?
Call me Gilgamesh Gilgamesh
Not the first heroic spirit, at least his best friend beat him there.
Gil is the first heroic spirit because Enkidu is not a proper heroic spirit really.
Enkidu is a divine spirit not a heroic spirit
The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest recorded story in history. So yes he is
Enkidu is a character in Gil's story, who dies first is less relevant than who the thing is actually about.
If we ever find a separate Enkidu story that is older than Sumerian Gilgamesh (as some historians speculate might have existed) that would be its own thing.
(Except Adam was the very first heroic spirit before him..)
I remember when saber went point blank range
Great video/short keep doing whatever you're doing bro
You slurring??? Are you drunk??
Gilgamesh is my husband
I am Gilgamesh
There is more than one way to make a name yours.
Gilgamesh is mine
🗿
The female Gilgamesh is a myth
gilgamesh
Bro sounds like someone is impersonating a nerd
🤓👆 literally your voice m8. Nice analysis btw.
He is my favorite. Especially Caster Gil, he is more heroic than all other versions of him
I'm going to say it this is BS because I'm sure only 90% of people know who Gil is because of fate I only know the story because of fate go
Feg
Not a fan of the design choice but it’s whatever he is a great character.
Iskamdar is better.
Iskandar is a hypocrite who outright states his empire fell and somehow he's noble phantasm is his people???
What a load of crap he literally betrayed his own ideals at the end of his time and turned all he's commanding troop against himself.
Even SABER called this man out. Don't be fooled by what Zero made her to be lmao even Saber wasn't taking anything from him 😂😂😂
@@Zenrielle going by history itself, Iskandar was one of the best rulers of the time as he listened to his people first before taking actions
@@Zenriellewhat are you talking about
His people never turned against him he literally died in Mesopotamia after the death of his best friend hephaestion after his death when his in commands didn’t know how to structure everything so had a conflict on who gets what land this is why hephaestion’s sister hated them as they fought after the kings death this is also why plotomei became the ruler of Egypt the lands were distributed after the whole conflict which at one point even destroyed his library the library of Alexandria his death brought the destruction of empire
This is also why in the memorial of fgo you see him naked with only one coin with his face because every he build was destroyed after his death as he sees the city burn and move on
This literally shows why his NP was his army because he alone was the reason this country worked he alone was structure and his NP is his peoples second chance after death to be with the man the so admired and trust
Iskandar* literally never touched him in their ''fight'' and his best display of power was being considered worthy of being impaled with Ea. I don't think he killed a single servant other than Assassin getting bullied by a literal army of what I think are meant to be servant-ish soldiers IIRC but I might be getting it confused with FGO/Babylonia Leonidas' spartans? Which would just mean that Iskandar and friends are actually even weaker...
I love Iskandar but no he is not even close to being better.
Boi ain't no way💀

I love that aspect of Gilgamesh's power, the fact that his powers embody the concept of being the OG Hero.
