    There is no such thing as a pitch perfect vocalist 100% of the time. Live concert set's are long and extremely difficult to maintain at studio level especially for vocalist. But Amy come's pretty damn close to that level of perfection. She pore's her heart and soul into every song she sings. And that's enough for me.

      100 percent agree with you, everybody can't pull it off all the time. I seen her live and she was amazing. they 2 ediots at the top saying she needs to lower her tone....Ha! It wouldn't be Evanescence if she done that. ppl have bad days, voices are shakes at times, doesn't mean she needs to change her genre of music

      +ヒルホリクロエ Not true. My vocal master do not really like her actually.
      I'm a massive fan and the first time he told me she's not that good I was not happy, but he's right.
      She's not a really bad singer, but her technique is not good. She lacks her lower notes and she does not use her mixed voice properly: sometimes she forces her chest voice causing herself damage and lack of control during the transitions between chest and head voice.

    • @joethomas2803

      +Riccardoderek your vocal master is wrong. how can you listen to them? have they sold millions of albums? have they sold out gigs in just about every developed country in the world? I think not! what make your vocal master so much better??

      @Riccardoderek 8 лет назад +2

      Joe Thomas Sorry, but your opinion is so wrong. Many bad singers sold millions of album because they make good music or because they just got syle. But that doesn't mean their singing technique is bad.

    Does Amy have bad performances? Yes, but every artist has them. You're not gonna be on your A game every concert. You're just not. She puts so much effort into her performances that sometimes she might not sound the greatest. With that being said, it's obvious she can sing. Anyone who disagrees really needs to look up the facts. I have listened to the acoustic versions of some of their songs and I was blown away and got chills. And yes, I've watched concerts that were normal and not acoustic and she did awesome too. She's up and down but that doesn't make her a bad singer. Amy Lee in my opinion is in the top 10 vocalists of our generation. Unfortunately, she doesn't get the credit she deserves. Also, people really need to stop comparing her to Tarja or Sharon etc. She and them have different voices.

So how can you say she can't sing when she has good performances too and everyone that knows her, especially in the band, says what a beautiful voice she has? It's common sense. Also way to say that on a video that proves she can sing....

      Згодна щодо голосів. Слухаю і Тарью і Крістіну Скабіа, і Емі, і Шерон але саме тому, що вони різні. Це доповнює жанр, він стає банатогранним.
      Колись мене теж намагались переконати, що вона погано співає, порівнювали її акустичний спів із співом Шерон. Не переконали.:)) Дійсно дуже мало співаків, що один в один відтворюють студійний звук, т.б. з тих виконавців які поєднують з електронним звуком. Акустика узагалі складна річ. Вона вимагає академічності, так само як піаніно. З тих, хто на сцені звучить так само як в студії я знаю тільки вокаліста Квін (Queen Freddie Mercury). Це взагалі помилка вважати, що звук має бути ідентичним. Він повинен відрізнятися. Голос повинен відповідати звуку інструменту. Різні інструменти = різне виконання.

    After a while, your vocal cords can get tired and day after day with all that singing, that's got to put strain even heavier on them. I used to sing karaoke and after about five or six songs, my throat couldn't do it. Big props to all musicians, having to do this day in and day out, especially those with masterful skills like Amy. Even a goddess can get worn out.

    • @JessieNebulous
      @JessieNebulous 8 лет назад +4

      JR Black It's self-explanatory, really. The creator explains that they have encountered people criticizing Amy's live vocals, and they made this video explaining that singing live (vs lip syncing) have various factors involved and the performance is not going to sound exactly the same as the recorded version. I've run into people complaining that she sounds different live, and I generally say something to the same effect as this video (perhaps in a more coherent manner; I'm a writer, and the video creator is clearly not). It just sounds like you haven't run into anyone making those criticisms about her but believe me, some people don't like her voice. I don't understand it, but everyone likes different things. But that's what the video is trying to "prove."

    Plus she carries it all off whilst playing piano and/or the harp, also near to perfectly. I think she has one of the most powerful current female voices in music. I went to one of their concerts a couple of years ago and I didn't hear one bum note in the entire performance. I think sometimes its more to do with bad sound level at the performance, as it must be very hard with such powerful songs to keep the backing music low enough so that the vocalist isn't struggling to keep their voice audible. At the concert I went to the sound was spot on for someone with a voice as strong as hers. Though I couldn't have been heard above it if I screamed in one pitch note! lol

    1) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and none of those opinions are wrong. That's why they are opinions.
    2) For anyone saying that Amy can't sing live, I'd like you to try running around a stage for two hours singing the way she does and then criticize her.

  • @cierrafoy3604

    Let me just start out by saying i LOVE amy lee. She has a beautiful voice, great presence, and an impressive range. But her technique is terrible. Itsnot an insult, but sometimes i literally worry that shes going to blow her voice out. Her breathing is awful, she gasps for breath (which does have a lot to do with running all over the stage. HOWEVER, i believe that you shouldnt sacrifice the quality of your singing just to put on a good rock show), and ive noticed also that with the high notes, she seems to go for vocal gymnastics rather than quality singing. Her range is impressive, again, but she sings through her throat and nose, shes often pitchy and raspy, and at times it actually sounds painful. I AM NOT SAYING AMY IS A BAD SINGER. But she abuses her vocal cord in a way that is appalling. She shows no respect for that beautiful voice,and im just afraid that if she doesnt start doing something different, shes going to lose it

      ehh. I was in a freakishly picky, critical mood that night and I feel like a dick for this comment. I would KILL for her pipes. I'm a singer too (not in her league, obviously) and I abuse the hell out of my voice, which is probably why I'll never make it to superstardom. I think the above comment was genuinely made out of concern for the longevity of her voice though. it would be a crime if one day Amy lost her voice and didn't get it back. :(

    • @cierrafoy3604
      @cierrafoy3604 8 лет назад +1

      actually... yes I did notice that. the concerts in 2015 were on POINT. I think the ones I was referring to may have just been a few off/sick nights back in 2012. I actually thought that between 2003-2012, her live performances grew more strained (except for the acoustic shows. unearthly good). but I also heard something about her being sick for quite a few shows so I'm sure that would do it. anyway... back to what you were saying... yes. especially in recent years, she's gotten better. I also failed to account for the fact that with each new album, she's singing more and more vocally challenging material. the self-titled album? good god. I'm pretty sure ONE night of singing that stuff would blow my voice out. ha. anyway yeah. if I could choose between having a trained, but just good nothing special about it voice and having a voice like Amy's, not professionally trained... well I think you know the answer to that. anyway, rant aside... I know what you mean. especially between 2012 and now, her voice and singing skills have soared to new heights. that new cover EP? she brought that whole chill-inducing-with-her-voice factor to a whole 'nother level. sorry. I can go on and on in my comments if you haven't noticed. ANYWAY... the main point of this was that I had no right to be critical. I'm definitely not up there doing what she does night after night, and it would be a huge stretch to say I have even half her vocal talent. thanks for being cool about me being a prissy amateur music critic XP

  • @lynzioliver-musto4718

    People seem to expect high notes from all female singers these days, or they "are no good". But look at Bonnie Taylor. Her songs were (and still are) great "classic rock ballads". You can't expect all women to be able to warbler like Mariah Carey (who, though I am not a fan, style wise, I can respect for her amazing range) and it seems to be that Mariah's frequent use of the whistle register is causing irreparable damage to her voice, as Axl Rose's soul tearing falsetto did to him.
    Amy is a mezzo-soprano. That means her natural register is lower than the typical female pop star, who all tend to be full soprano. It gives her that edge of being able to go lower than most, though making those higher notes more of a strain. It's not that a mezzo can't sing as high a note as a soprano, it is just slightly more difficult. (As a mezzo-soprano myself, I can relate to that.) Add to the fact that she is adding that gravelly "rock" signature to the notes and generally having to belt them out over screaming fans, while bouncing around the stage, every night (plus sound checks and rehearsals) and the whole atmosphere of playing live and anybody could have a bad night.
    As for recordings and "editing" with autotune, has it never occurred to people that when recording a song, if a singer is unhappy with it, they can have a "do-over"? When the band Queen recorded "One Vision" they did it so many times that it was late night and they were all worn out when Freddie threw in the "Gimme Fried Chicken". It broke the tension and frustration, they kept the line in. I mean, c'mon, if Queen can turn a nightmare recording session into a comedy "rock legend" like that, anybody can make a mistake! Remember, to err is human, to forgive, divine, to let rip and not care is ROCK!

      +Lynzi Oliver-Musto I don't think that most female pop stars are sopranos at all. They seem to mostly be mezzos, without a lot of range to their voice, and there are even a lot of lower mezzos/altos (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lana del Rey).
      If we're talking about a homogenous mix of voices, look at male pop singers. I couldn't name you more than one or two who isn't a tenor. And if they're baritones at all, it's not by much. Basses don't even exist in pop.

      Kanga Banga I agree, tenor and mezzo seems to cover the majority. And I, for one, would be so happy if the "whistle" register just went away. It's painful to listen to.

She wants to give a good show and she does a fantastic job of it.

      She's a classically trained pianist. Not vocalist. She never had opera training. And she never claimed to have. She has admitted that she never had any vocal training other than participating in her school choir ( which I doubt can be classified as any training at all ). I think she only started taking up singing lessons after the release of their third album in 2011. Before that she was self-trained. She had classical training in piano though.

      2 vocal lessons definitely do not count as vocal training. Also, from what I recall, she said she didn't have any vocal lessons before fallen. She had a stage coach that taught her a few things about stage presence, how to stand on stage, how to be expressive, etc. but not vocal lessons. Anyway, even if she did have 2 vocal lessons these are not enough. And she definitely didn't have classical training nor did she ever sing opera.

    As a singer and performer I can tell you there are good days and bad days for all of us! Being the lead vocalist of a band performing long sets takes a lot of energy! When you hear someone as amazing as Amy sing poorly, remember there are a variety of valid reasons to consider. Here are just a few: Monitors go out/vocals drop from singer's monitor(s). The audience still hears the singer in the PA, but the singer cannot hear herself/himself at all. We cannot hear ourselves in the same speakers as the audience with loud guitars and drums all around... Kind of like when you have headphones turned up loudly in your ears and try to sing. ;) Sometimes we get sick and our vocals aren't the best, but we can't cancel a gig that people have already paid to see. Not unless we are sick to the point of our voice or "instrument" being broken or impaired. A professional will lots of times go out on stage with a variety of illnesses. If our pipes still work and we are able to move, we will suffer thru it. Because, as you know, "the show must go on!" Even if it's not as good as it would normally be. We not only have contracts to fulfill, but also fans to please. People would rather come to a mediocre show than have it be canceled: True story! Another reason for bad vocals: emotions running too high or deep in the moment. I can personally attest to the fact that once I start to cry I cannot sing if my life depended on it. My vocal cords tense up and I can't get more than a squeak out! I have had instances on stage where I had to fight that kind of emotion. In doing so, I had shaky/pitchy vocals. When you are a high energy performer, jumping or moving on stage, you can very easily stop singing from the right spot or too loudly and not only sound bad, but also hurt your vocals. Your body tensing up because you are moving/jumping/dancing or not being able to hear yourself very well in the monitors will make you sing to loudly and hurt your voice, too. I mean, really... I could go on even longer but I think most of you get the point. Everyone has bad days and good reasons for not being up to par. If I could confiscate every single recording of myself singing badly, believe me.... That would be great! I'm pretty sure Amy would agree! :)

  • @maryotting7799
    @maryotting7799 8 лет назад +2

    I'm just going to put this out there because I saw a lot of comments saying she doesn't have formal training.
    The woman was top of her choir and even wrote songs for their concerts. I believe singing in a choir all through out school would count as formal training. She may or may not have seen a one on one vocal coach. Amy is also a natural alto yet easily a mezzo-soprano. She is NOT a natural soprano. It takes a lot of practice to work up to those notes and be fully comfortable doing so as it isn't in her natural/comfort range vocally. There for when jumping, dancing, even not having correct posture will cause the voice to falter if not in your natural range.
    As for not sounding the same as recorded, we all know singing in a special room made specifically for vocals/music to sound good is way different than being on a stage in a venue. Also when songs for albums are made they record over and over. Then cut and put together the best sounding bits, the final product sounding "perfect"

      דנקדונט מהמיק No there is not just one word out of key in her live performances (in this perfomance of The change, her voice cracked also when she said "I'm about to lose my mind"). In almost every performance, her voice goes out of tune at a time. Singers are human, they can make some mistakes sometimes or have a day off, but in Amy's case, the same mistakes always come back all the time. She just should take vocal lessons for having a better technique and take care of her voice.

    • @JaguarStar999
      @JaguarStar999 9 лет назад +1

      Lithium Sapphire I agree with you, she tends to write songs with extremely high notes on them, and she has said herself she's not a super trained singer (being in the highschool choir doesn't count), so in the end, that's the reason her voice sounds too strained and she can't hit many notes after being more than 20 mins on a stage. Other singers are better technically speaking. That doesn't mean Amy is a bad singer. She's amazing. But she really needs a vocal coach and I have always thought the same as you: she needs to lower the tone of her songs. Great singers in all genres do it all the time. Why not her?

    Amy lee is a naturally talented singer. I love her voice and she helped me get through some dark times in my life with her music. I use her voice to sing her songs and it moves me. When you go on tour for so long, your voice can get hoarse, sound dry, pitchy, etc. Remember that these musicians have to sing every day across the globe when they go on tour so they can sometimes strain their vocals. You also need to take into account that these musicians also can suffer from exhaustion from traveling so much and do not get a chance to rest their voices. It's a tough business when it comes to the entertainment industry and they have to force themselves to keep going so they don't lose their contracts.
