- Matthew has some major setbacks in his building project that results in very little actual work getting done. He does tear out some walls and floors. He builds new floors (spoiler alert: they need to be torn out too), and has a jolly good time fighting the addition in the new house.

A job on this scale is like a battle, no matter how much pre planning is done, all changes after the first 10 minutes.
Hi Matthew, I’ve been a subscriber for a while now following your adventures in the UK (where I live) and it’s really interesting watching you deconstruct to reconstruct your house. You seem very well informed about building and what to tear down etc. I can only imagine the cost, not only in financial terms, that this project is taking. It will be worth it in the end though and I’m really looking forward to seeing it completed. Warm regards, Marie from the UK
Marie,
I have had a bit of DIY experience with houses - but this is the first one of this magnitude.
The cost is certainly substantial, but hopefully worth it in the end. If not for the house, at least for the memories!
OK, in the last video, my husband and I sat there watching it saying “wouldn’t it be easier to just tear down the house and rebuild it?” You know I thought that even more watching this video! Good luck and be safe!
It might be easier to tear it down.... But that seems such a shame! It really is a beautiful house!
Schaefer Family Adventure I agree. History matters ❤️
@@SchaeferFamilyAdventure definitely...good luck, you're doing a great job 👍
I'm always so impressed by you and your vast knowledge of things. Excited to see this coming together more
Oh, thanks! Good to hear from you on the tube!
Hi Matthew.
I think your face at the end says it all.
I've been there, done that, but not to that scale. I think you will just have to take it a day at a time. Like mountain climbing, only look at your next step, your next step, your next step,,, and never look for the summit. You know it exists, it's your goal, but for now it's just about the next bit. And you probably will have to go backwards more before you eventually start to go forwards. Just pace yourself and get as much help as you can.
Really my sincere best wishes to you all.
Ray.
Thanks Ray!
I really is a bit like a mountain. One step at a time. One project at a time. One bite of the elephant each day!
One small move each day can make a huge impact over time!
Watching this in total amazement
It's like a crash on the motorway/highway. Cant look away!
American houses are so different from UK houses. I am sure it will work out in the end after all your hard work. Wishing you all the very best.
They are so different! Thanks so much!
Great title on the thumbnail! Clicked in one nanosecond!👍
Hey Guys, love your channel and watching your adventures. Really interested in your house videos and seeing how it comes along. Good luck Guys, all the best from Vas in the UK near Nottingham 😊😊🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks miles! We really appreciate it!
I am reminded of the grand staircase of Powis Castle which is secured to the wall to the depth of half a brick. Also it could be nice to make a time capsule to put in structure of the house. And good luck.
Great story! And great idea - we should totally do that!
Best of luck to you matt
Great vid 👍👍 shame its come to ripping down half your house
I've done a few renovations (UK), Mathew you're a brave man to tackle that job I wish you well .
Thank you! We are excited and overwhelmed at the same time!
Need a hard hat Matt! Hopefully the project hasn't opened up too many cans of worms.
Oh I know it! Not really up to OSHA standards!
Nice
Thanks!
This is reminding me of the movie money pit
Yes! Projects like that will take all your money, and even more so, all your time!
For real! Hopefully after the demo things will go closer to schedule/budget.
A language lesson of Yank to Brit: Yank: Addition - Brit: Extension .... Yank: Poorly done work - Brit: Cowboy Builders ... Yank: A fun project - Brit: The pubs open, lets drown our sorrows and forget the far too big a job that's waiting for us at "home". Why waste time with walls, floors and roof when tents are cheap to buy and do the job. The kids may point out there isn't an inside loo, I say, fill the inside of that hole. Who needs air conditioning when there is a nice breeze blowing through the tent flaps, who needs to worry about winter when we can use the kids as fire logs, who worries about rain when the wifes tears are already flooding the tent, why worry about cooking, fast food outlets are open 24hrs dontchaknow. Keep Calm and Drink Tea is the actual first commandment (Everyone knows God is British) which was soooo important it had it's own stone tablet, written is huge gold letters, however, Moses accidentley left it up the mount and he was too embarressed to go back up and retieve it after he realised what he had done. 10? they said, only 10? You promised us 11, where's the other one? the children of Isreal asked. Well, that's an interesting story said Moses .......
Here endeth the lesson :)
Err I Must of missed a few. Are you still in the UK? lol 😆
Your Hair is looking very frat guy, but it suits you, big change to how you kept it in the UK.
Thanks! Lots of mixed reports on my hair!
Ahh just read the thread 😅👍. Where are you?
Okay, 10 seconds in and you’ve already quoted Trump and the Bible... this is gonna be a different video! 😳😂
Haha! Yes!
Trying to keep it interesting!
Gosh...wouldn't it be easier to knock it down and rebuild the house ?
Yes, easier. More expensive too though.
Also, we lose all the history of the beautiful house!
@@SchaeferFamilyAdventure true, just seems so much work and so many setbacks , but amazing what you are doing , I can't wait to see what it looks like when your finished 👍💕
It worries me that you weren’t wearing a mask during the tear down. Please consider it.
Definitely! I almost always do, no good excuse that I didn't this time (just slipped my mind, actually... You get busy doing stuff and....).
I'll make a video about ppe sometime - but a key word in it it's -personal- protective equipment.
Everyone has to choose their own level of risk. I appreciate your concerns, but have weighed the risks, and mitigated the risks I think are most important.
You need a haircut bud, get yourself down the barbers , have sometime for yourself 👍
No time for myself! Too much to be done still!
@@SchaeferFamilyAdventure well get the Mrs' to get the shears out 👍🤣💇
