    Hey Wes, I haven't run a 200, but on my bigger self-supported adventures like running Mt. Hood, I've used the Grivel Mountain Runner EVO 20L. I was able to carry all my food, water, poles and emergency gear. For me its a great pack.

      That pack looks cool. I watched a Spanish review on RUclips, it has lots of little pockets up front.

I'm nearing my first 50 miler, and hope to channel some of your good energy and positive vibes! Check back down the road. As always... love the content from you! You're such an inspiring runner!

    Hey man. What a great thing to see you be gifted an Irish penny. I'm Irish and now live in New Zealand, I seen ZERO Irish flags on Paddy's Day. Anyway, great work on the training. My question is a little of track. Do you follow and would you ever want to try the Barkley Marathon and why. Keep it up man. Smashin it

    Hi Wes! Very cool that man that gave you the lucky penny! 👍🏻👍🏻 And wow, what a blister under your foot! I understand your DNF, and I learned so much After my Last injury to listen very carefully my body. 😅 In fact Now I'm running with shoes *Altra Running* with Zero drop. 👍🏻 Now it's very good, today I ran 10K and still no pain. 🎉🎉 Very interesting speech About the pack, I learned a lot of new things! 😊👍🏻 So good luck for your next race!! 🇮🇹💪🏻 p.s I Remember when I told to my wife that i was going to run an ultramarathon....she said that was a crazy idea...but now she support me and when i run she write me messages full of love and encouragment! 🥰
    And what's the camera you use? And How much time you Need to complete a 45 minutes video of a race?

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 месяцев назад +1

      I love that your wife is sending your love notes! That's wonderful support and encouragement!
      The camera I use is a GoPro Hero 11. I talk about it here: ruclips.net/video/WjHwJjgzNik/видео.htmlsi=YfAMwGBWFzvItEjy&t=352
      Editing time varies, especially if I add graphics or not. My big 45 minute videos of 200s where I make on-screen maps showing locations aid stops and 3D map animations of the course and the route taken at night, those take a lot of time. They take me a couple weeks, it is tough to juggle editing time with work and everything else. Best case scenario is I take a week off of work after the run and I just work full-time on the video. I'm going to try something like that after Cocodona, I hate when the editing drags on into a month.
      I started by career as a professional video editor, so I tend to spend more time on polishing my work, maybe more time than a non-professional would. 🤩

    Another great video, thanks! I've used the Salomon Adv Skin 12L for a few 100s and Moab and love the amount of storage. The thing is like a clown car, it's amazing what you can fit in it with all the pockets and the stretchy material. You really have to be organized though, otherwise things can get lost with that many pockets and tough to find when you're delirious. I agree, the pole storage is not ideal and the bladder hose routing is not good. I prefer a bladder on longer events and this has caused a few headaches. I'm planning on trying the Zygos pack. On a side note, is there a certain yoga routine or video you follow? Thanks for everything you do!

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 месяцев назад

      Clown car! Love that, you’re absolutely right. 😂 A trick with the current Zygos is chest bottle pockets is to try bigger bottles. I found 500 and 600ml bottles to be too loose up front, but I have a 750ml Hydrapak Flux bottle that fits up front and Ben Light says the 1L Flux also fits. Bladders fit well in it I think.
      The weekly yoga class I’m doing is through Wy’East Wolfpack and link is in the description. 🙌🏼

    • @daveh1094
      @daveh1094 6 месяцев назад

      @@wplate Great to know about the Zygos being able to accommodate 750ml or even 1L. That's a game changer since the Adv Skin 12L front pockets are sized for 500ml max so even two bottles often isn't enough, for me anyway. Thanks for the info!

    hey Wes. regarding packs, and it might be too late for Coco 250 but something to review. I have been looking at fast packing packs for the TMB trail. These may too large for your needs but the couple I keep looking at at the Outdoor Vitals Skyline 30, one of the Pa'lante Packs and perhaps the RAB Aeon Ultra 28L (poles stash across sternum strap, waist belt has pockets). Just some alternate options to our traditional brands.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 месяцев назад

      Hey Vagn!
      Thanks for sharing those, they look great for fast packing. My desire is for more up-front storage, that's the problem I find with hiking packs, they emphasize the rear storage. I have the additional weird requirement of trying to store my phone and camera up front where they're easily accessed, it is tough to find packs with front storage I can use for those.
      The UltrAsprire Zygos 4.0 is nearly a perfect pack for me, I just wish it had a little more main compartment storage.

    • @vagnsteen5130
      @vagnsteen5130 6 месяцев назад

      @@wplate gotcha, I wasn't even considering your extra camera gear.
      This idea may not be right either but...
      a friend of mine does adventure racing. She added a smallish chest bag to her fast pack vest. Personally I'm not sure I'd want the extra bag but just an idea. On another note you might run into a few of my Ohio friends in the race, about six from Ohio. Always fun to watch your adventures!

    They made a magda xt which was 20L. And update would be awesome

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for reminding me about that one! I looked at it on the website, it suffers a similar problem as other packs, I don’t think it has enough pockets accessible from the front. The front pockets on the Zygos 4.0 are all useful to me, the problem is more recent iterations of the vest have reduced the number of front pockets. I want more front storage!

    • @grennangoeshiking
      @grennangoeshiking 6 месяцев назад

      @@wplate i for sure hear ya on the front pockets. And the hip belt could use some work. To be fair, Magda isn’t the biggest of humans so…

    Hey Wes, I'm wondering how your crew manages their own fatigue for this race. There's a strong possibility that I'll only have one crew member for most of the event. With how frequent the aid stations are, it seems like there's very little rest time for crew. I'm wondering if it makes sense to just plan for my guy to skip a couple of aid stations, so he can recover and take better care of me when I do see him. Have you ever done this with one crew member? What was their experience like?

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 месяцев назад +1

      On my first climb up I passed the gentleman and said hi. When I got to the top after climb 2 he was still at the top getting ready to move on, that’s when I spoke with him. I don’t know him, I think this was our first time meeting. Such a nice guy!
      I’m not sure if I’ll keep it going, it is a lot of work. But there’s more to share, like what happens after Cocodona. How long until I’m running again. How long until I’m feeling good again. I also wonder if the audience is interested. What say you?

    • @hibiru6868
      @hibiru6868 6 месяцев назад

      @@wplateAwesome random act of kindness. Being on trail is where you find nice people in my experience and looks like yours too. I'd be interested the post-Cocodona updates, the recovery process sounds fascinating. I get what you mean about the work to get the videos out. Maybe one day AI will advance to where all we have to do is film, tell AI what kind of video to generate and then have a publishable video. Editing is definitely a barrier to entry (at least for me).
