If it is in the opposite direction, then it is the resultant moment. Not the balancing moment. The balancing moment direction must be towards origin so that the system is balaced.
We have to measure the length of the closing side of the polygon to get the the magnitude of unknown mass. Further, we have to measure the angle of the direction of closing side with respect to the horizontal in the counter clockwise direction to know the orientation of the unknown mass.

How do you get the angles and the m values..? you are not explaining in details
