Am so impressed, what a video. Need to watch this a few more times as a masterclass in storyboarding, concept demonstration etc. It'll do me no harm to actually hear the production skills tips a few (hundred) more times either.
Great video! The one thing I'd add to your color grading portion is the huge benefit to dynamic range from shooting in a log profile. It forces you to always normalize the shot but it can make up for a lot of challenges in getting ideal lighting during run-and-gun shooting. Perhaps that's too "In the weeds" but it's changed how I shoot and taught me color grading is just something everyone needs to be comfortable doing.
Another really important thing is editing (cutting up your footage). Learning when to cut or not to cut is so underrated in my opinion. But it does take a lot of time and practice to master. Btw, colour grading is also my favourite... besides filming :)
It's always a good reminder for basics that we miss when out filming. Thanks for another great video. They're a big help for improvements on my videos.
Always great to revisit the basics! Sometimes out in the run and gun situation, I tend "forget" these things, I may have to make a little cheat sheet from your info graphics!!

Yeah, I guess I knew the other two points (the pentagon), but those for me are more modifiers to manage the triangle in the camera. As you point out, the other two are critical and complete our image intent. Again, great stuff, and thanks for such a clear description.
The one additional tip, that took me a long time to learn...if you're talking directly to the camera, look at the lens! Not looking into the lens creates a disconnect with your audience. Great video Dunna. 😎📷
This is a terrible bad habit of mine. I usually have my camera monitor flipped out so i can make sure I'm in frame but i have a bad habit of looking at the monitor and not the lens. Now i try to close the monitor when I'm in front of the cam so it doesn't distract me.
Great vid. But don't forget that in the rest of the world we shoot in 25 and 50 fps due to our electricity and lighting being different. Cheers from over here!

Would love to see more basics videos like this, as the fundamentals are often overlooked and that's what some of the best magic happens. Btw, what audio books do you typically listen to / recommend? Would love to hear about some recommendations on stories.
Hi Dunna. I apologize for asking a somewhat unrelated question, I tried to update to Resolve 19 from the "Update" menu option in 18.6. It gave me a couple error msg boxes, but finished install. I restarted computer 3 times. Now, Resolve 19 "Loading ***** " window comes up, goes away, then . . . nothing at all! I tried to reinstall Resolve 19 from scratch, but it says "new version" is already there and to remove it in control panel. I'm assuming "uninstall Program" is what it is meaning. I'm afraid to do that before I copy the project files to a non-Davinci Resolve folder (not sure which folder or what file extension to look for) in case the uninstall/reinstall "from scratch" option erases the project folder contents. Any advice?

Release a tip and have them grab the full video on your Patreon or your teachable or your kujabi or whatever teaching app! Too much talent and resources energy and effort went into this video. You too talented and intelligent. You have to charge it’s nonnegotiable.

Use Sony and the 24fps on FCP. Do you change it to 24fps or keep it on the 23.97 that it is auto set to? Thanks!
