The av cost of electricity in California is 30 cents per kilowatt-hour - compared to the av in the US of 17 cents. Under the stewardship of Governor Newsom, it should be over 40 cents in 5 years. Gas per gallon will be way, way up there. I don’t know how other brands are on software updates and I keep hearing that the model Y is dated, but it’s hard to consider a car dated when it keeps getting better just sitting in the driveway.

Tesla is the known good thing. They advanced the state of the art by at least 50 years. Other automakers would have trickled out advancements a tiny bit per year for decades if not for Tesla showing what was possible. Tesla gave us the best that could be done at the time. If Tesla had dedicated leadership of the car business they could still be gaining sales. Elon is wasting time and money on pet projects that won't produce revenue right away and may never even pay back the R&D.

Tesla offers Full self driving on their cars That’s the main difference to the other EV’s which has a more basic autonomous driving option
Other factors that attract buyers to Tesla are Tesla superchargers which are cheaper for Tesla owners than non Tesla owners
    Tesla’s also hold heir value
They’re the original and best EV which the other brands just copied
People like buying the original brand like Apple still is the best selling mobile phone
Tesla also have better software upgrade technology and regular improvements for free
They don’t need regular servicing costs
As Full self driving is adopted this will be the main difference to the others as the ev game becomes user pays with cyber cabs

Australians are very sensitive to wanting the newest and greatest. Model Y drops, if it is good, it will go ballistic.
Other side factors: Waiting for FSD to go live in Australia (useable FSD I mean, like in the US), wanting longer range, as Australia is massive, and we drive a lot more.

Also, insurance, repair network, spare parts, untested warranty, rapid price falls for new vehicles, no real used market for EVs, rapid improvement on tech and battery makes a new vehicle outdated in a year, standards and hardware for V2x not ready yet, ...

FSD v13 is good enough for me to survive now and autonomy certification level means little based on my first hand experience and two years as a beta tester on FSD. Also, china was salivating to get their hands on FSD. Because they know it is better than anything they have. They also want to reverse engineer and productize as they have already done with EVs. Learn from the best and make it better, cheaper, faster.

Tesla isn't focusing on pure volumes of EV sales ....?
Yes, the boss spends all his time tweeting nonsense.
Tesla sales are up in China because the market has grown fastest in China. Given a worldwide year on year sales fall, it means Tesla sold far fewer cars in the rest of the world. (-6% as Sam says).
Europe should be a big growth market in 2025, but the growth will be mainly accounted for sub €30,000 vehicles, and Tesla has only two models - maybe great models - but both in the premium sector.

Despite having inventory to cover the gap sales of the Model 3 slowed in advance of the New Model 3 as customers chose to wait. Tesla did exceptionally well to maintain the sales they achieved!

Tesla has the same competitive advantage as Chinese automakers: they control the production chain from mine to battery to car. Other EU or USA producers to not own/control the battery production, they depend on China. Just a thought: could it be, that the Chinese keep the best grade and most advanced batteries for their own industry and will keep doing so?

Elon is on record as saying (paraphrasing here) that if Tesla could not perfect self driving that the company would amount to naught after all was said and done.
Elon knew that the Chinese would eventually catch up in making quality EVs and that, as things stood, Tesla could not compete.
Self driving cars changes that equation by ultimately (once ramped) eliminating the need for many, if not most, people to own and pay for their own car at all. It changes the entire economics of traveling in a car to something much cheaper to do.

Sales are only one side of the ‘picture’. What matters are the margins.
Last year’s profit is expected to 20% lower than 2023 after profit fell 45% in 2022. Not a great sign fo a supposedly great growth company with a ridiculously high share price based on fantasy projections in other divisions such as FSD which has still not been successful in nearly 7 years. In the process Musk is spending $10Bs on his dreams with dwindling free cash flow from EVs. It’s going to be a dead duck market.
Re Australians IQ, when it comes down to common sense and practicality, ICE and hybrids still provide more value.
The biggest factor against EVs in Australia is their range, more to the point lack of it.
Good luck finding a charging stage or 3 between capital cities and then when you get there hope there’s no one else using it otherwise you’ll be having more than a coffee waiting for your EV tank to charge up. Make that 6 course meal!!
The end game in China is making cheaper better value cars. As in Australia (until recently) they’re seen as a premium car but as quality standards improve there’s going to be greater sales in both markets of the BYDs etc.
China has always nabbed tech and they’ll continue to that to increase market share until a point where their manufacturers will sell more of their brands than Tesla. It’s guaranteed to happen.
One of the reasons that sales of Tesla have only fallen by 6% is nil cost financing and discounting incentives.
How long can that be sustained?
Tesla’s market share is now halved from 2021 to last year. In only 3 years it has fallen from 90% to the mid 40%’s. Thats a huge fall.
The Cybertruck will never sell in large numbers and chances are will never be profitable at a time when Tesla needs to make every post a winner. It’s really stark and to most it’s just plain ugly.
Otherwise it would have sold a heck of a lot more. Musk had dreams to sell 2M last year. It’s struggled to sell 50000!!
A mere 97.5% below expectations!! Whoops.
I think that’s where the dreams will continue (to end).
There’s no doubt energy and Optimus will be probably 2 success stories in time but at what cost? The rest..uhh uhh.there’ll are and will be just huge consumers of Dwindling EV dollars.
Eventually the realism will set in to all of the dreamers that ICE and hybrids will make far more common sense.
Longer range, better fuel efficiency, cheaper to run (tyres for eg), very high depreciation and probably the most damning of all, life expectancy. How many EV’s will be on the road in 10 to 15 years? I’d say not many and if they are, they’ll be worth next to nothing.
I don’t see that as a great incentive to own one.

  • @petemiller519
    @petemiller519 15 дней назад

Tesla sales will keep decreasing if the Model 2 is not revealed. The recession is about to hit all major economies, including China and the US. Furthermore, the 7500 rebate in the US will tank their sales further.
IQ levels of Chinese may be higher than Australians, however the average IQ of Australians is considerably higher than the average IQ of Americans. The left hate Elon and are starting to boycott Tesla. The right are starting to hate Elon, and never intended to buy an EV in the first place. Elon has isolated Tesla from any substantial demographic, while BYD's pricing, manufacturing and adaptability will decimate Tesla's sales. The only thing Elon can do is pump and hype. In the best interest of Tesla, he should step down as CEO, there may still be time to save the brand.

Tesla is de-emphasising volume sales. What a complete load of rubbish! Let's state the situation more plainly. Tesla isn't making the volume sales it hoped to make and tried to make.
Even the modest growth in sales in China is a poor outcome for Tesla. Tesla sales are flattening in a EV market that remains buoyant. That isn't a good sign.
That sharp sawtooth pattern in month to month sales also doesn't bode well (assuming the pattern is real and not just an artifact of either flawed sales recording practices or production or logistical constraints). Although the true meaning of that volatility isn't clear it is hardly good news.
Tesla is introducing some revised vehicles this year (certainly) as well as some new ones (maybe). They had better be good or Tesla will be falling further behind the more innovative Chinese EV companies.
What Tesla needs to do is self-evident. All of its vehicles must move to 800V+ architecture. With that change Tesla should take the opportunity to further improve the energy efficiency of its motors/drive units (and thus the range of its vehicles). The charging rate and safety of Tesla's batteries must also be improved. CATL is the exemplar here. Tesla will need to match or beat CATL's mainstream battery offerings.
