Were they heavily discounted? Now that a new version of the Tesla Y is for sale in January, I would have thought people would wait a few weeks and get a much better car.
I think there were price cuts; there were in the U.S. and Europe. Every car maker has this problem: the minute they announce next year's model, customers go into wait-and-see mode.
You got to be joking, this channel is becoming an embarrassment. Have you looked at the prices between China and AU for the same EV. There is your main reason why Australians are sceptical. Also, insurance, repair network, spare parts, untested warranty, rapid price falls for new vehicles, no real used market for EVs, rapid improvement on tech and battery makes a new vehicle outdated in a year, standards and hardware for V2x not ready yet, ... Therefore, the smart money is on hold for now. Unless you really, really need a new car now. The early adopters in AU are in and now EV sales are slowing down in AU.
Exactly... at this stage buying Chinese EV has the same risk (or multiplied by 1000 by price) like ordering from Temu/Aliexpress. Maybe we are lucky and works properly, maybe not. But we will get close to zero support at this stage if anything goes south.

The increase in December sales in China could it be because of huge discounts in Tesla car sales which the company would want to keep as quiet as possible about anyway. It will be interesting to read 2025 figures of Tesla monthly sales. On balance. It would appear to me Mr Musk's reactionary type of personality will deter more potential buyers than encourage sales..
This just perhaps proves that Chinese cars really have issues with reliability or servicing, as Tesla in China should not be able to compete as well with the prices Chinese cars have and how they look, interiors and tech... But apparently Chinese people are not that positive about quality of their own EVs maybe. Who knows. But it is interesting.
And you would be wrong. Did you miss the other video where all the major Chinese brand made massive gains YoY? The EV pie is expanding massively yet Tesla is basically standing still and shrinking percentage wise.

Maybe, just that looking at prices Chinese cars are sold at, I would expect Tesla to have trouble to sell even as much as they do... And it is hard to me to believe that an authoritarian regime not known for quality car industry and even less known for consumer rights can get it 100% perfect in a few years. I do think the quality has improved but then again I also see how Russians complain about Chinese cars in Russia now. Granted they are mainly buying Chinese gas/diesel cars...
@lkrnpk cmon lol scientific method 101: maybe the data perhaps shows us these results. Hahaha we always like our facts to come from maybes and perhaps.
Hmm. I feel like the only one in the room that realizes that Tesla is bleeding edge on FSD. If works fantastically today and I use it 99% of the time. Who else is close? And what’s it worth to save your own life or keep your mobility after your physical abilities decline due to age and you are no longer able to drive without assistance legally?
@Duh. What does that matter? FSD v13 is good enough for me to survive now and autonomy certification level means little based on my first hand experience and two years as a beta tester on FSD. Also, china was salivating to get their hands on FSD. Because they know it is better than anything they have. They also want to reverse engineer and productize as they have already done with EVs. Learn from the best and make it better, cheaper, faster.
Tesla isn't focusing on pure volumes of EV sales ....? Yes, the boss spends all his time tweeting nonsense. Tesla sales are up in China because the market has grown fastest in China. Given a worldwide year on year sales fall, it means Tesla sold far fewer cars in the rest of the world. (-6% as Sam says). Europe should be a big growth market in 2025, but the growth will be mainly accounted for sub €30,000 vehicles, and Tesla has only two models - maybe great models - but both in the premium sector.
"more educated in china" You are aware that petrol and dieselcars in practicality is banned? They cant register then, around 3years waitinglist on everything not green licence plates...
The reason why Tesla still sells so many vehicles is because they are the best. Just wait until they release the lower price cars in China if you don't believe me. You have China blindness so nothing compares in your mind. Just my observation. Other surprises await you this year as well. Next year at this time, you will be very surprised.
You failed to mention that Tesla sold more BEVs in 2024 than BYD. Which Chinese EV manufacturer makes more efficient EVs or has better navigation software than Tesla? You keep saying that they are better, well in some areas yes but in the important areas, definitely not
Tesla FSD is trash compared to Chinese competitors like Huawei. It’s expected that cars park themselves with no driver these days. You really have no idea. It’s still trading on being first mover. Nothing more.
Sam, could you do us a favor and refrain from the Musk controversy BS. You mentioned it 3 times in this video before I finally had enough and stopped watchingt.
I do recall retooling this year at every factory for the new Model 3. This entailed production stoppage for that vehicle and then time to scale up to full production again. Despite having inventory to cover the gap sales of the Model 3 slowed in advance of the New Model 3 as customers chose to wait. Tesla did exceptionally well to maintain the sales they achieved! Sam if Tesla is abandoning vehicles as you assert it will mark the first time they depart from their Corporate Mission Statement. If so this deserves an explanation to shareholders!
Tesla sales have fallen in Australia because mainstream buyers are not transitioning to EVs, now that the early adopters all have them, not because of the minimal Chinese competition.
It's down due to people waiting for the Model Y Juniper. Ever heard of the Osborne effect? Proof is Model 3 sales are flat YOY ('24 vs. '23). The decline is due to drop in Model Y sales.
Always bought a car without even thinking about the political views of the Xpeng or BYD Manager or the ideology of BMW, GM or Porsche owners. Strange new World. Tesla has the same competitive advantage as Chinese automakers: they control the production chain from mine to battery to car. Other EU or USA producers to not own/control the battery production, they depend on China. Just a thought: could it be, that the Chinese keep the best grade and most advanced batteries for their own industry and will keep doing so?
@@KP-xi4bj Global sales are down from last year despite new Rustbucket models of Cyberpunk and Lowland. Are you still at nursery or you need medication?
Elon is on record as saying (paraphrasing here) that if Tesla could not perfect self driving that the company would amount to naught after all was said and done. Elon knew that the Chinese would eventually catch up in making quality EVs and that, as things stood, Tesla could not compete. Self driving cars changes that equation by ultimately (once ramped) eliminating the need for many, if not most, people to own and pay for their own car at all. It changes the entire economics of traveling in a car to something much cheaper to do.
I’m for Trump and Elon, all you foreigners who don’t know what you’re talking about because you listen to the mainstream media can all stick your opinions where the sun doesn’t shine
Sales are only one side of the ‘picture’. What matters are the margins. Last year’s profit is expected to 20% lower than 2023 after profit fell 45% in 2022. Not a great sign fo a supposedly great growth company with a ridiculously high share price based on fantasy projections in other divisions such as FSD which has still not been successful in nearly 7 years. In the process Musk is spending $10Bs on his dreams with dwindling free cash flow from EVs. It’s going to be a dead duck market. Re Australians IQ, when it comes down to common sense and practicality, ICE and hybrids still provide more value. The biggest factor against EVs in Australia is their range, more to the point lack of it. Good luck finding a charging stage or 3 between capital cities and then when you get there hope there’s no one else using it otherwise you’ll be having more than a coffee waiting for your EV tank to charge up. Make that 6 course meal!! The end game in China is making cheaper better value cars. As in Australia (until recently) they’re seen as a premium car but as quality standards improve there’s going to be greater sales in both markets of the BYDs etc. China has always nabbed tech and they’ll continue to that to increase market share until a point where their manufacturers will sell more of their brands than Tesla. It’s guaranteed to happen. One of the reasons that sales of Tesla have only fallen by 6% is nil cost financing and discounting incentives. How long can that be sustained? Tesla’s market share is now halved from 2021 to last year. In only 3 years it has fallen from 90% to the mid 40%’s. Thats a huge fall. The Cybertruck will never sell in large numbers and chances are will never be profitable at a time when Tesla needs to make every post a winner. It’s really stark and to most it’s just plain ugly. Otherwise it would have sold a heck of a lot more. Musk had dreams to sell 2M last year. It’s struggled to sell 50000!! A mere 97.5% below expectations!! Whoops. I think that’s where the dreams will continue (to end). There’s no doubt energy and Optimus will be probably 2 success stories in time but at what cost? The rest..uhh uhh.there’ll are and will be just huge consumers of Dwindling EV dollars. Eventually the realism will set in to all of the dreamers that ICE and hybrids will make far more common sense. Longer range, better fuel efficiency, cheaper to run (tyres for eg), very high depreciation and probably the most damning of all, life expectancy. How many EV’s will be on the road in 10 to 15 years? I’d say not many and if they are, they’ll be worth next to nothing. I don’t see that as a great incentive to own one.
Tesla sales will keep decreasing if the Model 2 is not revealed. The recession is about to hit all major economies, including China and the US. Furthermore, the 7500 rebate in the US will tank their sales further. IQ levels of Chinese may be higher than Australians, however the average IQ of Australians is considerably higher than the average IQ of Americans. The left hate Elon and are starting to boycott Tesla. The right are starting to hate Elon, and never intended to buy an EV in the first place. Elon has isolated Tesla from any substantial demographic, while BYD's pricing, manufacturing and adaptability will decimate Tesla's sales. The only thing Elon can do is pump and hype. In the best interest of Tesla, he should step down as CEO, there may still be time to save the brand.
Tesla is de-emphasising volume sales. What a complete load of rubbish! Let's state the situation more plainly. Tesla isn't making the volume sales it hoped to make and tried to make. Even the modest growth in sales in China is a poor outcome for Tesla. Tesla sales are flattening in a EV market that remains buoyant. That isn't a good sign. That sharp sawtooth pattern in month to month sales also doesn't bode well (assuming the pattern is real and not just an artifact of either flawed sales recording practices or production or logistical constraints). Although the true meaning of that volatility isn't clear it is hardly good news. Tesla is introducing some revised vehicles this year (certainly) as well as some new ones (maybe). They had better be good or Tesla will be falling further behind the more innovative Chinese EV companies. What Tesla needs to do is self-evident. All of its vehicles must move to 800V+ architecture. With that change Tesla should take the opportunity to further improve the energy efficiency of its motors/drive units (and thus the range of its vehicles). The charging rate and safety of Tesla's batteries must also be improved. CATL is the exemplar here. Tesla will need to match or beat CATL's mainstream battery offerings.
Chinese welcome Tesla more because Tesla has reduced its price again, actually every time it's Tesla started the price war in China market because Tesla has more profit margin😅😅😅

CCP will influence internal China market as many EV co's state owned . Tesla /Vw /GM sales in China can be changed overnight if CCP call for public to buy only Chinese ( state) owned products . Come on Viking, you can't go speaking unpopular truths like that;!
They will sell less cars, unless they cut the price . They won't sell any cheaper versions.
Tesla should not compete at the lowest price points, the Chinese can take care of that.
Maybe the Chinese have years more experience with the Chinese car and it's I eyewitnessed real world performance. ???
Tesla is the best choice of all time. In Musk I trust
Yes kneel down you brainwashed cult follower!
Most Good Electric Cars sell goods in China even better. But why Tesla?
Exactly
Australians are also sceptical towards China is a sign oif intelligence and not the opposite.
Exactly... at this stage buying Chinese EV has the same risk (or multiplied by 1000 by price) like ordering from Temu/Aliexpress. Maybe we are lucky and works properly, maybe not. But we will get close to zero support at this stage if anything goes south.
@@heater424correct. I found it funny that the G6 model Chinese Viking is pushing with the buzzword "800V architecture '" does not even charge on Tesla Super Charger in Australia and other western countries.
Respect To ludicrous Feed/ Tom for calling it out in his video review. Although he was fairly blase about. I would have reacted differently if I had just paid 60K. .... That is not how the cookie crumbles when spending this kind of money 🤔 😉
I’m not afraid of EVs. I just don’t want one, just like I don’t want most ICE cars.
Walking is cheaper and better for your health.
@@kirakira1981 Tesla standing still? More Tesla products are in the pipeline in 2025, e.g. Model Y Juniper, Model Q, Cybercab, Robovan, Roadster 2.0.
Keep coping. 🤡

Yes I want them to succeed with FSD.
FSD is autonomous driving level 2 only.
Chinese companies already started with level 4.
@Duh. What does that matter?
FSD 13 is insanely good! It makes FSD 12 seem broken.
"more educated in china"
You are aware that petrol and dieselcars in practicality is banned?
They cant register then, around 3years waitinglist on everything not green licence plates...
Agree the innovation pay back
I just checked wsb there is another wave of shortsellers just regretted to short tesla in the last 24 hours.
Hahahaha,good vid
Aussies, are making vast improvements.
The reason why Tesla still sells so many vehicles is because they are the best. Just wait until they release the lower price cars in China if you don't believe me. You have China blindness so nothing compares in your mind. Just my observation. Other surprises await you this year as well. Next year at this time, you will be very surprised.
Tesla sells many cars?
特斯拉在中国大卖,大概率是出自对马斯克的崇拜,和对tesla这个品牌的崇洋媚外,而不是什么质量和性价比
???
You failed to mention that Tesla sold more BEVs in 2024 than BYD.
Which Chinese EV manufacturer makes more efficient EVs or has better navigation software than Tesla? You keep saying that they are better, well in some areas yes but in the important areas, definitely not
Tesla FSD is trash compared to Chinese competitors like Huawei. It’s expected that cars park themselves with no driver these days. You really have no idea. It’s still trading on being first mover. Nothing more.
Huawei, Xpeng make software as good as Tesla as per Wheelsboy
Do you know how Tesla sales in China compare to BYD....Stop being delusional

Tesla without China is dead!!
tesla touching 500k quarterly..... byd done it in a month....
We need the early adopters to buy more EVs then.
It's down due to people waiting for the Model Y Juniper. Ever heard of the Osborne effect? Proof is Model 3 sales are flat YOY ('24 vs. '23). The decline is due to drop in Model Y sales.
Is this reply from 2020?
As has already been pointed out it’s most likely that buyers are waiting for the new Model Y.
That's it. EV's are dead 🤭

You got that right bro!
Everyone waiting for the refresh, will be my new car and my wifes new car
Tesla's competition is coming All over them self 😂😂😂
China - Musk..Musk - Trump..Playing both sides..The art of the GRIFTER
It's the bloody news media
"The times they are a-changin".

At the moment Tesla's are selling well based on quality and tec eg can compete if the politics doesn't interfere.
You know that CCP officials' favorite government car is Audi A6??
