From this video, I feel devastated as a Federer fan. Even in this video, Federer is always “0.25” step from the perfect hitting point. It’s true that he hits the ball perfectly, with the compensation of his perfect perception and flawless skill. But what if it’s “0.5” step, or even 1 single step away. Just like 2021 French and Wimbledon. What I know is in his prime, 04-09, he stood exactly at the perfect hitting points, with perfect strokes. Back then, he was unstoppable. Time wins everything in the end, he can’t dominate anymore.

I've said this many times - IF Roger can make a full return to health, at his style he can play 2-3 more years at the highest level despite his age. I have been following Roger's tennis career for 20 years now, and based on what i know of him and seen, there is no reason that can convince me he cannot win another GS title even, when he makes his comeback. Granted, the chances are smaller than in 2017 BUT, the only key thing here is his health. If he fully recovers his body, then his style and his tennis can get him that final GS at WB most likely. Let's be honest - there weren't many Roger fans (even among the most die hard) who could have predicted what happened from AO 2017 onward with Roger - 3 GS and another final, 4 Masters and 3 finals, all this after he turned 35, i mean come on. Obviously this time i am not expecting that kind of comeback - but i cannot understand how some people put beyond the realm of possibility the fact that he can win more big titles. If his health is 100% - he is up there with high chances even at this age. One more thing: I really don't think Roger is going again through the hell of a comeback if he plans to play 4-5 more months. IF he can make a return to full health - he will play in 2022 and 2023 and if he stays healthy, he will retire on his own terms in 2023 or 2024 - that is my bet. But again, all this is conditioned by his health recovery.

I'm sure that tenis will never be the same for me after Roger retires. I'm 29 and i'm huge sports fan, but i don't remember following tenis so closely before Federer. I am in owe everytime he "waves his wilson wand" and the emotions he gaves me are so extreme... i was so happy when he won AO17 that i cried and so heartbroken for days after wimbledon 19. He reached the ultimate mastery level of this sport. When i see other top guys play i see 2 amazing athlets and feel nothing, but when he plays i see a master, a magician and feel incredibly lucky to be alive during his career.

This Next Gen sucks altogether: prime Rodick, prime Delpo, prime Wawrinka, prime Safin, prime Dayvidenko, and definitly prime Murray (only for example) will wipe the floor with every "next gen player" except for maybe Daniil, Sacha and Dominic Thiem. The other players like Tsisipas, Rublev, Berretinni are good, but too inconsistent what let me think that Federer play against the best generation of Tennis.

Roger said his knee was bothering him for "a long time" before the 2020 AO even started. So you really have to wonder how long he played with the knee problem before the AO.
As far as his comeback? Listen, I love Roger, but he'll be 41 this year. As much as I'd like to see him win another Slam, it may be time to call it a day and go out gracefully and let the young guys have their day. Same for Djokovic and Nadal. None of them have anything left to prove and regardless of if one of them gets to 21 Slams - the GOAT debate will rage on. Everyone is always going to make a case for one over the other (ROGER!) so that's no-win situation for all 3 of them. I never thought Roger would be one of those great athletes who played too long and didn't know when to retire...or stay retired. See: Michael Jordan. Don't call it a comeback (thank you LL Cool J)...call it a retirement tour.

  • @franks2910

I don't think he'll ever come back and play like he did. But as a long time tennis player myself I think Federer is still the best there ever was. Yes Djokovic is great but he's a retriever basically. Who is more fun to watch? And as far as statistics go try this: assign 1 point for making the quarter finals for all the Grand Slams. Then 2 points for a semifinal, 3 points for runner up and 4 points for a win. Federer is way ahead. You could include the Masters too if you want. Djokovic had 2 or 3 walkovers during the Masters one time in a final against Federer. And one thing I don't understand, someone posited that Federer would have been better if he had a two handed backhand. I find this backwards. I think that if the two handers had had a one handed backhand it is they who would have been better. These big strong guys don't need two hands on their backhand. A one hander gives you so much more reach and versatility. Sampras transitioned from a two hander to a one hander. Wonder why? I would like to see him beat Connor's record of 109 tournaments which he could do. Does anyone think that Djokovic or Nadal will get to 100 tournament wins?

I certainly think he is able to reach these levels at Basel or Halle again! I’m less hopeful for the slams over 5 sets but it’ll just be amazing to see him back out on court at this point.

Roger's game has always been based on quick movements around the court in order to set up his shots, especially his forehand. At his age if Roger isn't close to 100 percent with his knee, there is no way he will ever regain his old form.

Without doubt, Federer is the most talented, beautiful, vesatile player ever to play tennis. Variety of shots he has, is far more than combined of Nadal or Novak. His volley , stop volley, backend, forehand and dropshots are very pleasing to watch. To play for 20 over yrs with very high consistency is simply amazing. And above all, he is very humble, down to earth always easy going with his fans and media. We hardly read or hear ppl say bad things abt him. It is astonoshing to know that he has never retired half way in 1250 matches he has played. This shows how much he loves Tennis.. No other player has this effect on public past 50 yrs plus. No wonder he gets so much love, respect and attention from Reporters, players and public.. Even if Novak wins 25 Slams, he can never match talent, skill, charishma, elegance and popularity of Federer. 👌🏻👌🏻

Definitely to his best he's gonna return - to the current best, and that cannot and will not be like ever before, how could it? No matter what, he rewrote the history of tennis and has propelled the sports to a totally different level during his career. Unthinkable how it would have evolved without that competition between the four contemporary greats. Personally I wish for nothing else than seeing him in Halle whenever for what I have held the tickets now for 2 years...
