You aren't a person of colour - but as someone who is I truly appreciate when you speak out against non inclusiveness within the make up community . You could have easily brushed this off and said " they have my shade so it doesnt matter" - but you told it as it was . Major equality points for you james- I am proud
I’m glad James is telling his HONEST opinion about the foundation and not sugar coating it because he loves the concealer so much. This is what people need to hear THE TRUTH so they don’t waste their money on a foundation that doesn’t even come in their shade
Jane Doe considering they’re marketed as contouring concealers and their darkest shade is the foundations darkest shade I’d love to know why the foundation was a problem but their “contour” concealers aren’t
As a dark skinned person who wouldn't match either of the two (orange) shades at the end of the line, I really appreciate you sticking up for us. This launch didn't surprise me at all bc I'm used to brands completely disregarding dark skinned people in their shade range, but I'm really optimistic about the fact that people actually called out the brand this time; maybe makeup companies will actually start taking darker skin tones into consideration rather than forcing us to just put up with two default orange shades.
I've never tried Fenty but my sister who is mixed absolutely loves it. But shes got normal slightly dry skin and mine is so oily it looks like I wash my face in grease. Is fenty better for oily or dry skin?
I guess So, I dont use their products but, i think Fenty beauty products is suitable for any type of skin. Maybe you can apply a small amount of finishing powder on your fave to get ride of the shine, then apply the foundation, apply finishing power (if the foundation appears shiny), then finish with a spritz of finishing spray. Thats my recommendation, but you can do whatever works for you.
I guess also, in the video, James said that the foundation dries really fast and it hid the oil on his skin, so you probably dont need finishing powder before you apply foundation, but again, you do what works for you
deadass every foundation should have at least 5 categories, fair, medium, tan/olive, deep, and dark- period 🙌🏻🙌🏼🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿 and at least 6 shades in each category (2 cool, 2 neutral, and 2 warm) So in conclusion at least 30 shades per foundation
I agree because even though it would definitely cost more to release 30 foundations they would have a much much larger range of customers than they would have for only fair shades
agreed, but many brands make more than 30 shades with like 20 light/medium shades and only 10 darker shades which usually skip like 2 shades in between each foundation..
They listened to you sis. They now have 30 shades, 15 lighter and 15 darker, so happy everyone spoke up. I may not be dark skin, but I do wish everyone could’ve tried this at the same time.
As a POC, even when tarte decides to diversify the shade range of this foundation, I still won't purchase it due to the fact that they didn't feel the need to include me until they received backlash.
They already had 10 more shades coming. They said that before any reviews were even posted.. I mean I know it doesn't make it right just letting you know it's not because people were talking about them
as a young black girl that wears makeup, i am loving how every youtube is talking about including all shades. it is good to know that my skin is not forgotten
*Sis went OFF!* I’ve never been so proud to look up to you and backed up as a human of color, this rant was incredible & informative. Go sister James!😌
But he still reviewed it, got paid from tarte and gave them an ad. While he might have had good intentions.. he's still supporting the fact that tarte messed up so bad.
Denise Michelle or he might be jealous he wasn’t invited to the get away trip... If you listened closely... he mentioned how much money tarte has taking influencers on trips... (which tarte had a few days ago) 👀☕️ #Noshadetho
Am I the only one who thinks James should release his own foundation? It is clear that he LOVES large shade ranges and I feel like he would have soooo much fun making all the shades. Based on his pallete, I think it would be AMAZING!!!!!!
not going to lie...i didnt used used to like you because alot of people talked shit about you but i've been watching you for a few months now and you are such an honest genuine person its unreal! i really admire you with how true you are.... im an example that you just need to get to know people to like them..... keep doing what you're doing sister because you SLAY!!! 😍👑💕
@@lydiazhao3378 ya I was gonna say, I was literally just on their site and that’s why I was watching this video for a review. I bought it then realized I know NOTHING about this foundation 😂 glad to see they finally launched the new shades and it’s a decent foundation. I didn’t know anything about the range issues in the past! I’ve used the concealer for years. But, I’ve never looked into the foundation
Bre Williams I know this has nothing to do with the video, but is your profile picture a drawing of Zayn from David Dobriks vlogs? If not just ignore me and forget I asked.
Not gonan lie, as a black person the stuff I heard revolving James and stuff he said made me not like him at first. But honestly I'm glad I gave him a chance because now I really like him. Seeing this video and how he stood up and acknowledged his own past mistakes in the process just shows he knows what it's like to say some out the box stuff and be under fire so he knows what he's talking about, but he now does have my utmost respect for acknowledging it in the current situation instead of acting like he's never done something like Tart before like most people would. Hats off to you James Charles 👏🏽
A true influencer☺️ tarte needs to come out with more shades, for all skin colors! And not just the darkest shades, but more inclusive ones👏🏽 James said it well😊
Aubrielle Robinson indeed! I did see their response via Instagram... I admire them owning up and admitting they failed - however, how much can you believe in what they said? ‘we were eager to release this before all shades were ready- we will work hard to finish the shades and release them ASAP regardless of the cost of speeding up that process’ (not exact wording, but that’s the jist of it) ... hard to know if that is a legit statement or damage control- prob a little of both. They did admit to failing big time and alienating a large demographic.. but too little, too late?? 🤔 It isn’t like it’s a big shocker or new revolution that darker skin tones come in more than 2 shades.. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 like someone else said- the emojis have a wider range of color choices 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Aubrielle Robinson although you don't see the same thing happening in reverse when brands like black Opel cater predominately to darker skin you don't see a bunch of fair complected girls flying up in a rage based off of the principle of the matter, I definitely think from a business point of view it would be smart to cover everybody in the shade range but if for sake of argument a particular company just wants to target of particular demographic I don't think that that is wrong they have the right to markets or whoever they want, just like with anything else, you could have a company that only makes a certain type of shoe that only interests mostly a certain type of person or what about socioeconomic inclusion, should Versace start making $10 pairs of jeans so that poor people don't feel left out
Marie S why do you really care though at the end of the day? If the company doesn't want to take your money then that's better for you just go elsewhere to a company that actually values you as a customer and just MoveOn, just like you don't see a lot of fair girls flying up into a rage if a black Opel releases aligned that is more suited to darker skin tones, or you could even apply the same logic to socioeconomic status, how come nobody is complaining that Versace or Gucci doesn't make things affordable for low income people, nobody cares if somebody pour a can or cannot afford to have access to a similar product for the same product as somebody who can afford the Gucci shoes, you can apply this to any sort of demographic that is excluded and not being properly included, should all products the braille labels? I definitely think they're from a business point of view it would be smart for them to make colors to suit all skin tones because they would make a lot more money that way but if a company just prefers to market to a particular demographic I don't see that as a negative thing either, it would be like telling Ferrari that they also need to be inclusive and start making minivans to accommodate for big families and start making more affordable cars to accommodate lower income households, of course not, everybody knows the Ferrari doesn't give a fuck about you if you can't afford their car and that's fine, if they want to market to that particular demographic and that is all that that is their choice and that is there right and you have the right to just go elsewhere for you The same thing for full figured women and the clothing, a company has the right to not make plus size clothing if that's not who they care about marketing to in their market demographic, yeah it sucks for me, as a chubby girl but that is the companies right if forever 21 doesn't want to carry a IIx dress I don't really have the right to be mad I have the right to take my money elsewhere
zahra shah So let's not focus on fixing things, let's just ignore it completely. That seems *very* logical. You're in no place to decide how other people react. Look maybe you're mom dropped you on your head one too many times as baby, but you should know that not all 7 billion people on the planet are going to react the same way.
Jayla Jordan in order to fix something if that's what you wanna do you have to actually go to the root of the matter to achieve true long lasting results, and that's the one thing that is not being done in this area, as far as the comments about my mother dropping me on my head, well that's just rude and immature going nowhere, so I will not continue to respond to those types of comments
I love how James is so considerate with his actions. It is definitely noticeable in the way he words the things he says. Very professional. He truly deserves his large audience. Some influencers people aren't as equipped with their position as he is.
wa bc people asked for it and so he can tell people how much the foundation really works. Its kinda like advice for viewers so you know what you are buying
umm so today we're gonna be reviewing this new foundation, I heard James Charles also did a review on it I think its called *shart tape tape* I'm not sure lemme check real quick... yeh its *shart tape tape*
If Tarte has the time and money to make 2 different foundation formulas then they should have the time and money to make shades for the lightest of light tone to the deepest darkest skin tone 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿
I'm a woman of colour from Australia and i want to say YAASSS to your passion about the lack of shade range in this launch! My 11 year old sister loves you, i am not very familiar with you but after this video i 110% love that she loves you! LEGEND. love from an Torres Strait Islander from Australia xoxo
*steps onto a stage* *taps microphone* "Why.........did.............they............not.............JUST USE THE SAME SHADE RANGE FROM THE ORIGAL PRODUCT?!?!?!?!?!?!?'
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS! You are dropping FACTS! You are giving NUMBERS! I LOVE it! Black Women Spend A LOT of money on Beauty and the fact that that has been overlooked for so long just shows that people don't want to change. I live in the Netherlands, and while things are changing, I still see that certain brands don't WANT to sell darker shades here. And I say that they don't want to because the International Brand has dark shades, but the Dutch Chapter Just doesn't buy them, because they believe they won't sell. But what you're saying is sooo true, Even here in the Netherlands. The brands need to wake up. Black People have money and they want to spend alot on Beauty. Thank you for dropping facts
Yes I agree. Here in the Netherlands it’s impossible to find a shade darker than medium. It’s sickening. I hope they’ll step up their game. Such a shame honestly...
Minerva Joy girl u are DAMN RIGHT! Black woman and people of color in general take up almost 80% of the beauty community and they are just going to IGNORE THAT??!! They are fucking idiots if u ask me. But who asked me... or you, or anyone? Certainly not these large makeup brands that only sell white ranges of colors THATS FOR SURE. Bc that’s what they should be doing! Asking their consumers! ALL of them. Ugh. whateverrrrrr! God it makes me so angry!
Everyone’s focusing on the shades and how most of them are for paler skin tones, then talk about how black women need to be looked at in the beauty community. Y’all are looked at, the same way an Indian women is or whatever. Now I agree about the needing more shades but all the colors are in the peach skin range ( light to dark) but I think they need foundations not peach *because every foundation line is in the peach range* I think yellow range or orange. When I talk about range I mean like An Asian person has light skin but it’s not the same as a French’s persons skin, again skins more yellow and French is peachy and olive kinda.
Wow I love how he was so honest and did not even sugarcoat it even though he loves the concealer so much. You can see how passionate he was about this subject ❤️

@@GraceTaylor06 i dont think any of those emojis were 'yellow' but im pretty sure asians have much stronger yellow undertones than other races so maybe those are the people who have yellow skin?
Thank you James! Don’t listen to the people that are trying to silence you for doing something right. No more of that “it’s not that big of a deal” talk. You’ve definitely grown up and that’s awesome. Always speak up for what’s right.
Kezz and Maya I'm watching everyone I follow to see if they review this crap. If they do and don't do it responsibly as James and others did I'm unsubbing. I don't have time for ppl that can't use their platform to promote social responsibility.
This is my first time watching your video, and I’m so glad that you did this video. Thank you for using your platform to speak about this! You now have a dark sister added to your family for this. It’s appreciated.
Personally I am VERY happy to hear James speak this truth even tho he loves shape tape concealer so much. We need large beauty influencers like himself to let them know what the deal REALLY is. I am not black. I am Italian, I have olive skin. And let me tell u, it is soo hard to find a damn foundation for us olive skin girls too! We are always forgotten about as well! This is exactly why I love what he is saying so much! Bc when brands come out with a large range for woman and people of color in general, it normally means they include us woman with olive skin too bc their are never shades for us either! There’s just light, Medium, tan, and dark. Um... so no olive and no deep and no undertones between all of that!? like hello! GET WITH IT TARTE! So frustrating.
girl same!! i have light skin in winter because i live in the uk, in summer i am really tan but i have super yellow undertones all the time and every concealer comes out pink on me. the only one that has ever worked was the clarens instant concealer
Jessica Santillo i can never find a foundation to match me no matter what I do I have a tan olive type skin color and everything is either too orange or wayyyy too pink even though its got a yellow undertone like hello?? Who is this??
"literally the person's arm who's got the swatches on does not have a match... *hello* " my literal reaction 😞 I love how James was so honest about this because he loves the concealer so much but he said his own opinion about it ❤️

Ummm... did anyone notice he has like the most beautiful hands? Like wtf? I’m a woman and his hand are way more feminine and beautiful than mine lol his nail beds are thing and long, and his hands are hand model worthy! For real lol by the way, that eye makeup, so on point! goals!
As a white person this is something that I was unaware of because of my privelege. Thank you for shedding light on this subject so I can be more aware and informed.
@@richardkaye5965 Im not saying they should feel shameful. This isnt the first time this has happened with foundation. So yes I do have a privilege of going and picking out a shade that best suits me in popular make up brands where as a black person may not. Should it be that way? No. But all I can do is be informed and choose to support businesses that have a wide variety of shades for both white and black skin tones and not give my business to those who do not.
First things first, I LOVE YOU!!! I am not a woman of colour but I do however have a beautiful daughter who is, and even though we may have just entered 2018, my poor girl was constantly bullied for the colour of her skin. For a mother it is difficult to hear your little girl say she hates herself or that she wants her skin to be "normal" But you better believe that I try my HARDEST to make sure my girl knows that she is beautiful, strong, and in fact, normal!! Why should my 8 year old have to have these thoughts?! She shouldn't!! Thank you for using your platform to take a stand on this very real subject!! And thank you for standing up for people like my daughter, who struggles to stand up for herself!! You are an AMAZING person!! side note: you may have noticed that I said she "was constantly bullied" well, this May will be 2 years since we moved from a city to a small town and she is living her life, with a smile!! She still has bad days, of putting herself down or asking why shes different, but the most important things are that she has made friends, she has a best friend who she does everything with!! And she is happy!! :D
Stephenie Craner this is so sweet, you are clearly an amazing mother and your daughter is very lucky to have you. Make sure you tell her that all the James Charles fans are constantly with her and support her because, you're completely right, no one should ever be bullied for the colour of their skin. "Judge me not by the colour of my skin, but by the content of my character" -MLK Jr
As a mixed girl of colour, I must say that I’m super proud of you - you are such a wonderful mother!! And I hope your daughter grows to love being in her skin! Melanin is beautiful, just as the lack thereof is too:-). Every skin tone is lovely; it’s sad that she used to be bullied for having gorgeous skin. That truly is disappointing. I have a 6 year old cousin who always asks for her hair to be straightened because this is what she sees all around her; me, my sister, her parents, her friends - it’s the norm and she doesn’t feel like she fits in, which is sad because her hair is to be envied.
You're an amazing mother. I'm also colored and I never had a problem with my skin color but I did with my hair. I used to straighten it all the time. But now I love my hair!!
My girl complains about her hair a lot as well!! She hates bath night and when I do her hair 😔 .. thank you all for your beautiful comments, they are much appreciated! 💜
HIT THEM WITH THE FACTS. I never use this expression but SIS WENT OFF. You've grown so much as a SOUL and mind ...it's ok I'm just SWEATING through my eyes.
My mother walked past me and saw the full look (eyeshadow etc) and actually jumped. I asked what was wrong and she said "Nothing but he is beautiful!" I'm dead 🤣
This is _not_ okay! Though I’m like James’ skin tone, *EVERYONE* deserves their skin tone to be a foundation shade. Once again: 👏 *this* 👏 *is* 👏 *not* 👏 *okay* 👏
this is one of the only white beauty gurus who actually cares that people of color cannot find their foundation colour. thank you for putting this video out and telling everyone that this is not right. thank you james. *edit yes ik that Jeffree star has also done this
Clara Whitley Jeffree Star and Manny MUA did a review as well about this. They are also white...well, I think Manny might be hispanic, but his skin tone is very fair.
I think about this a lot and many people can’t do this and the fact that he has makes me love him and is why I personally support him. Much love to you James 💗💗💗
I just got goosebumps. It's awesome seeing influencers so passionate about this topic! Why is this even an issue anymore?! Love your honesty in every video.
he’s so honest and real and i love him so much because he accepts that he is privileged about the foundation options and i’m so proud of him for making this vid
I’m pretty sure I could have waited a couple more months, I would have waited a couple of years for them to perfect the dark complexion products if that’s what it took. What they did was wrong on all levels. Saying they were so excited about the light colors that they couldn’t wait to launch is still absolutely pitiful. I bet there’s launch isn’t doing nearly as well as they expected and now I’m sure it never will.
I was hesitant to make this video, but I believe this is a conversation that we need to have. I hope you guys enjoy.

10 light shades should = 10 dark shades. SIMPLE
KurlyPhro true we all should have the chance too enjoy make up together 💕
Undertones need to be taken into consideration as well!
amen!!!!!!!

yep! none of us should be left out! light can = olive, yellow, tan and wayyy more... dark can = yellow undertone, red undertones and wayyy more ❤️
funny how tarte said they would add 5 additional shades & it’s been a year and there was no additional shades added 😴😂
Then they go and try and make a new one thinking we forget this fiasco i-
Xxx_raindrxp they have 50 shades now
Make that 2
@@lydiazhao3378 ya I was gonna say, I was literally just on their site and that’s why I was watching this video for a review. I bought it then realized I know NOTHING about this foundation 😂 glad to see they finally launched the new shades and it’s a decent foundation. I didn’t know anything about the range issues in the past! I’ve used the concealer for years. But, I’ve never looked into the foundation

I have SO much respect for James! Thanks for using your platform to bring awareness and sticking up for Women and Men of color.
Bre Williams I know this has nothing to do with the video, but is your profile picture a drawing of Zayn from David Dobriks vlogs? If not just ignore me and forget I asked.
Bre Williams I'm also happy that he talked about it. Have a nice day!
Also men as well. Both genders use makeup and it’s an important conversation to have, for sure.
Bre Williams what about men that do make-up????
People of color* lol colored men use foundation too
Not gonan lie, as a black person the stuff I heard revolving James and stuff he said made me not like him at first.

I definitely think they're from a business point of view it would be smart for them to make colors to suit all skin tones because they would make a lot more money that way but if a company just prefers to market to a particular demographic I don't see that as a negative thing either, it would be like telling Ferrari that they also need to be inclusive and start making minivans to accommodate for big families and start making more affordable cars to accommodate lower income households, of course not, everybody knows the Ferrari doesn't give a fuck about you if you can't afford their car and that's fine, if they want to market to that particular demographic and that is all that that is their choice and that is there right and you have the right to just go elsewhere for you
The same thing for full figured women and the clothing, a company has the right to not make plus size clothing if that's not who they care about marketing to in their market demographic, yeah it sucks for me, as a chubby girl but that is the companies right if forever 21 doesn't want to carry a IIx dress I don't really have the right to be mad I have the right to take my money elsewhere
zahra shah So let's not focus on fixing things, let's just ignore it completely.

Samantha Fugiero so true.
I definitely agree with this one sister!
Crazy how the last 3 arm emojis are tart’s foundation colors for people of color. Guess they went by the emoji shade range🙄😒
Yes exactly, especially because it won't cost them almost anything all the bases are the same it would only be different pigment combinations

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaas girl
Yes I agree. Here in the Netherlands it’s impossible to find a shade darker than medium. It’s sickening. I hope they’ll step up their game. Such a shame honestly...
Luv how brutally honest he is
Minerva Joy girl u are DAMN RIGHT!

Ikr I'm black with olive skin too and it's so annoying!
You speak the truth girl! I have a golden undertone but I have pretty tan skin.
Jessica Santillo i can never find a foundation to match me no matter what I do I have a tan olive type skin color and everything is either too orange or wayyyy too pink even though its got a yellow undertone like hello?? Who is this??
YES OLIVE SKINTONES ARE FORGOTTEN
His reaction when he saw the colour difference was honestly sister iconic 😂❤️

As a white person this is something that I was unaware of because of my privelege. Thank you for shedding light on this subject so I can be more aware and informed.
yes, however being white shouldn’t be a privilege, and being black doesn’t have to be shameful, it’s true but both shades should feel privileged
@@richardkaye5965 Im not saying they should feel shameful. This isnt the first time this has happened with foundation. So yes I do have a privilege of going and picking out a shade that best suits me in popular make up brands where as a black person may not. Should it be that way? No. But all I can do is be informed and choose to support businesses that have a wide variety of shades for both white and black skin tones and not give my business to those who do not.

sisters🥺💞
