    Sorry to hear about the misfortune of the kids place, I know you are probably gone now, but could you get some of that expandable foam stuff for the gaps in the roof to the wall you mentioned.
    I have a question and more to your girl friend than yourself, and please don't take this any way but a genuine question, but would the kids have a better pathway to a better career or future if they were living in a city rather than a rural area ? it is for economical reasons they are there, just a question not judging ,

    • @GoneAdrift
      @GoneAdrift  5 месяцев назад +2

      I agree wholeheartedly. The village provides quality supervision and child care. But…..
      The boys were born in Pattaya, into an affluent home with a committed mum and a farang dad who provided financially. Their trajectory was VERY good at one point.
      Catch 22, the twins barely remember their parents as they were young when they died. Grandma is mum now and Lele is the provider now. If I was financially stable, retired in Pattaya, I’d push hard to get them down here. I work 7 days out of 7 per week here and Lele, almost the same. I’d say the kids are better looked after in the village than we could do on the coast.
      On a positive note, my channel and associated businesses are growing and in maybe two years, if we have success renting the house out at the right price - moving the boys to Pattaya may just be viable.
      Regular visits to Pattaya in the interim would be ideal, to expose the boys to all the metropolitan things they miss out on up in the village.
      Lele’s daughter is doing well. She’s thriving at her new school and qualified for a part scholarship this month. Lele moved the daughter up there when I began renovating the house in Pattaya but now she has the option to return. At the moment she wants to stay with the boys.

    • @michaelthegreat44
      @michaelthegreat44 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@GoneAdrift yes understood, that is terrific re the scholarship. well done her.
      as said was just a question, I think Lele is doing an amazing job with circumstances that are in no way her own doing,
      Given you are working lots and perhaps not making the money you were, Would it be of any value to return to Aus briefly to get a bigger base behind you, you know you have the foundations now for you Thai life, you have th great girl, return work for 6 months and have a $30/40K or more base behind you..
      Just a thought my friend, you obviously have a grea work ethic, and not afraid to put in the yards, 6months to a year could set yourself up for the next 10
      Any way keep on making the videos,

    I live in a small village too and that “jealousy” thing is disgustingly real. My wife is getting much better about saying, “No” and not worrying about being guilted into solving all the neighbors problems or worrying about their feelings towards her/us. While it makes zero sense to us, that is so embedded into the culture. The Land of Smiles……riiiiight.

    You came up on my feed. I watched this video. I live in NE Thailand and have seen it all. Those kids all have phones. Please be careful what you spend. I bet the reason the family are "jealous" is because the new house is built on land that they all have a share in. That's the Issan way. Dont feel guilty thinking that they have a tough life, its their choice. Remember that.. In all honesty its the kids I feel sorry for as they are destined to copy and paste what they see in the village..
    And the build quality nah that's crap, local people done that. You CAN get much better. Don't involve the family, believe me.

    I also live in Isaan. From my observation there are many children growing up without a mother and father due to various reasons. It's great to grow up as a kid in rural Isaan but when you become a teenager there can be the wrong kind of peer group to hang out with. I feel your frustration, there is always some relative in need and you want to help but we are not millionaires.

And the good hearted Westerner is a easy target.I was in Thailand for five years for work but I could never see myself living there for the rest of my life because of the weird hard to relate to culture. Was that market in Det Udom? It looked familiar. I live in Koh Samui but my wife is from there. Also, the school looked familiar. I think my wife's two granddaughters used to go there. Take the road towards Ubon and turn right just after a wat on the left. There's a sign saying something about a technical college at the top of the road where you turn off.
    Good luck with looking after the family. I have done my fair share over the 22 years that my wife and I have been married. We brought up three of her nieces - sent one to university and one to college. Now helping out two granddaughters. I was once a relatively rich man!

    How did they cope with these emergencies prior to the falang arriving on the scene?
    You make it easy for them and you can bet that the money demands will keep on coming....as they don't now have to go to 50-100 different people to get a small amount from each when they have Bank Falang. What drives most Foreigner/Thai relationships apart?...the pressure put on your girl to get as much money as possible out of you from her entire extended family.
    If you really feel the need to help her family then give her a monthly allowance amount and stick to it....otherwise emergency after emergency will just keep happening, putting pressure on you and her to keep giving, which eventually will become too much for you, arguments will occur, and you will part ways......it is how it always goes.

      Like, logistically I don’t think it could work.
      Grandma, the key care giver won’t leave the village, not a chance.
      Lele works 7 days a week in Pattaya and the twins are a handful. I could help but I don’t have adequate thai language to talk to the twins.
