i haved use a ton of glasses since 25 years. In 2015 i purchased my actual 50mm, a new-fd 50mm 1.4, in new condition, for 80€ to a collector. I reboot all my stuff around this lense. Pure Love. For my last doc "chevaux :l'instinct du troupeau" about horses here in france, i used theses glasses : 24 2.8 old_fd, 28 2.8 new-fd, 50 1.4 new-fd, 135 2.0 new-fd, 200 1.8 new-fd, and two modern lenses for few shots.
I've got old Minolta lenses that I have for my SR-T 101, and really like to film and photograph with them on my little Sony APSC camera - I've especially noticed the halation effect in bright lighting that feels very filmic to me, and they are actually CRAZY sharp, even compared to the Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens I have for the camera.
I think people use the word "bokeh" willy-nilly nowadays. I'm a huge fan of old imperfect portrait lenses, and I keep seeing people talk about bokeh when discussing samples from modern Sony/Sigma/Canon/Nikon lenses. Those lenses have no bokeh, THIS lens has bokeh! Bokeh should be re-defined as the out of focus rendering WITH character, with it's own intrinsic special look. Modern lenses with smooth as butter out of focus rendering have no bokeh, they have blur.
Yea it made me chuckle a bit. Copies in good condition of every decent 50 f1.4 are about 100 on average, if not more. You are lucky if you can find 1.7-2.0 for 50
I played this video when I wasn't looking, and for a second I thought I accidentally opened a GxAce video 😅 In all seriousness, this video is wonderful. Wonderful music, editing, and what a wonderful lens as well! I've found 3 of this exact lens in amazing condition in a shop nearby but didn't buy them. I think I will now!
Yo I never expected this lens to be this so good for video! My grandfather had one on his shelf. I think I might try to use it on my sony camera but I just need an adapter. Thank you for this video!
Hi David! Yes, I’m adapting this lens to the RF mount, and I manually focus the lens when I use it. The focus peaking on the R5 and C70 is really helpful for nailing focus!
I haven't run into a copy at a price I'm willing to pay yet. I came across the 55mm 1.2 ssc aspherical combined with the late FD ssc 35mm f2 for so cheap it's hard to justify paying much for anything else.
@@StevenSchultz the 55 1.2 is epic. Wide open it gets softer the farther you are from the subject but you can easily use it at portrait distances wide open and get amazing results. Also stop it down just a little and it cleans up nicely for farther subjects.
@@StevenSchultz It's an amazing piece of kit. Their may be vintage 50's with objectively more pleasing bokeh, but it's a damn good portrait lens. Sharp wide open at portrait distances (softer at long distances) and very pleasing rendering in my opinion.
On ebay there are lens with little scratches, tiny dust on the glass... for 50 dollars...will it be a good buy? I saw a youtuber that bought it for 26 dollars..and in very good condition... is it true? The best one I have found are for 70 dollars on ebay.
being able to adapt so many lenses is one of the best parts of mirrorless cameras! Also this music is giving me major GxAce vibes
Absolutely! It opens up so many creative possibilities!! Yessss he was a huge inspiration for this video. So talented! Thanks for watching!!
@@StevenSchultz your shots looked great!

Dang that sounds so cool! Minolta made some underrated lenses. The character that older glass has is truly special. Thanks for watching, Levi!!

Agreed!! I absolutely love it. Thanks for watching, Nuno!!
Gxace approved 😂
I’ll never come close 😂 but my goodness is he an inspiration!
Great work once again! I wasn’t aware I could use my 50mm SSC on Canon’s R bodies, maybe you could do an overview of that as a part 2 to this?
Thank you so much, Sean! Totally, I’ve got an adapter video in the queue :) I really appreciate you watching!!
Commenting as this ad is playing and just want to say this lens is not $50

They’re amazing! Thanks so much, Kendra!! 🙏
oooh so pretty!
Thanks Jackson!! ☺️
Are you adapting this lens to the R series cameras? If so do you have to manually focus?

Thanks Rick!! 🙏
Love it

Wow, that’s a fantastic combo! How do you like the 55mm 1.2? I’ve heard great things about it!

ok ok ill buy one
Hey, loved the video. Do you know if this lens is radioactive? I've done a lot of research but can neither confirm nor deny. Hope you can help
Thanks so much, Jake! From what I've read online from a few sources, it is not radioactive!
I have the same lens, but unfortunately the oil on the aperture blades (known issue with this lens) is terrible

Do CANON FD 50/1.4 ssc and canon fd 50/1.4 NFD have radiation?
To my knowledge, the FD 50 1.4 SSC is not radioactive!
@ Many thanks for the help
Do you worry that some of the vintage lenses are radioacitve ☢?
Manual lens ?
Yes it is!
My stepmom found ut for 3 dollars on a garageshop 😂😂🎉🎉
Thanks, but distracting music..
Noted! Thanks for watching!
Music is WAY too loud. Big fail.
