My experience of the job market and the gig economy. The guy hiring for the church gave me the date I drove down, whether he then actually hired for the next day is questionable.

Extremely annoying. Also I have noticed this usually happens when one are low and vulnerable, then evil ones sees an opportunity to take advantage. Prayers and blessings.

Well yes people definitely took advantage of you, your time and your trusting nature. Sorry that you were treated like that. But glad that you stopped looking for the kind of work that would make you vulnerable to being exploited like that. Not much more you could do.
