Tremendous video, the part with installing the belt with a zip tie blew my mind but worked like a charm! For the curious, the 2005 (and earlier) versions of this engine at least in a Mazda 6 have 3 pulleys, not just 2. There's a tensioner pulley rear-ward and slightly above the camshaft pulley. Mine got messed up and I was looking at replacing it, but starting in 2006 Mazda/Ford *deleted* the tensioner pulley. You can bypass it safely by getting the 2006+ belt (Duralast 195K3S) and putting it on as shown in the video, ignoring the tensioner pulley.
Not dumb at all, the biggest pulley at/near the bottom of the engine. That is your crank pulley you want to turn it in a clockwise motion so the direction you would turn the pulley is to the right like if you are tightening the bolt if that makes sense. Should be an 18mm bolt in the middle of that pulley.
100% honest completed the job in under an hour start to finish but I’ve done this job a couple dozen times…if this is your first time I would say 1-2 hours would be a respectful time frame. I believe book time for this is 1.5 hours.

@@kevinmetcalf6371 thank you!!!
Awesome dude. Thank u. What a pain in the ass. Worked like a charm.
Not sure if dumb question. Where to I manually turn underneath for the belt? I watched your other video and only saw the above.. I’m new to repairs.

So I access this from underneath the vehicle? There is a plastic guard underneath. Do I have to take that off?
@@morganbroker2610 yes removing that will be helpful to gain access to the crank pulley.
awesome and thank you very much.
I'm looking and looking to see what's different than my 2004. No belt tensioner on this one. Interesting.
Incredibly you can bypass it - they got rid of it in the 2006+ models because it caused problems. Just use the 2006+ belt.
Thanks!
Your welcome!
How long did it take you real time to swap it out.
