200w is nothing and not representative of the cpu really only today I already read several reviews including one where it goes to 430Watts ! (guy had 5.3Ghz on all cores don't ask me how) that said if you check amd cpu reviews like the 2950x you would see that (16 cores but lower clocks) it also goes into the 300+ so if you think 200w is too much go read more reviews you'll be shocked, the "more than enough" 280w air coolers for ryzen are far from being enough in reality (the 2700 already goes into the 270w fyi)
This in a thin notebook? Not going to happen, because certainly as soon as this comes out some american would claim compensation for loosing his fertility because he put it in his lap… (Nothing against americans, it has to be an american because of the high claims they get in courts)
Not disagreeing per say, but AMD didn't show up Intel in regards to the 9900K, because their 2700X was out first. In this case, Intel is just shooting themselves in the foot. Their prices are unreasonable.
Intels Prices are absolutely reasonable. IF you want to draw the money out of the pockets of those Intel fanboys that have a lot of money before lowering the prices to a more reasonable Level... OR if they have very few CPUs to sell...
purkeypilot - $500 isn’t a lot for a high end chip. They were $700+ in the 90’s that’s over a grand in today’s money, and they were outdated in two years 🤷♂️ if you want best value, don’t get the highest-end chips.
Was planning on upgrading to 9900k but with these results I'll wait for zen 2 because even though I can afford it it's just not worth that amount of money for such a slight improvement of performance.
100 degrees C? the most we saw was 90, which is throttling territory. At least one review pushed their CPU to 100 but wasn't that at 1.45V? hardly a healthy way to treat your CPU.
@ 12:58 I understand your reasoning in here about "why not just start on the HEDT platform?" for those who may be looking at this 9900K for more editing \ productivity tasks and gaming is nil or secondary. I'd say true for pros. But the price of adoption of the whole HEDT Intel platform is considerably more expensive and with threadripper you sacrifice in the gaming end if you still want it occasionally - and it could end up being just as expensive depending on which SKU you go with. There will always be that segment of the population (myself included) who are not pros but still do a lot of editing, who look at this as an all rounder - for whom editing is first, gaming is second. In that regard it is attractive if you're coming from say 4th or 5th gen. (Haswell for me, AMD FX before that) The big drawback is only 16 lanes on the CPU and a 64GB RAM limit, but I'm a hobbyist editor who considers 64Gb the sweetspot for my 4K NLE project's. And even though gaming is secondary, it is still a consideration. I've been building for decades now (in my 50's) and I've switched companies and platforms more times than I could count. As a work-play tool this is just the most logical choice. I've gotten 4 years out of my Haswell (4790), I'd hope this would last me the same amount of time. I really appreciate all the time you put into these vids and I always like your input and considerations. Cheers
Yes! I have read that is in the works, but my understanding is that those higher density DIMM's are not released yet? Do you have any more info on that? hexus.net/tech/news/ram/123290-intel-9th-gen-core-processors-support-128gb-ram/ Also given their pending price, I think I'd probably stick with 64GB. Maybe by the time of the DDR5 release and my next upgrade down the road I'd consider that
I9 9900K $530 plus another $100 for a good cooler = $630. Or a 2700X bundled with a cooler, plus a very nice X470 motherboard AND a decent 16 Gigabyte ram kit can be had in the USA for $630. To me it is a no brainer.
@@paul9478 In that case, poor also means "not mentally challenged". Too bad the world is full of suckers like that, and for the time being, Intel still has a lot of unmerited mindshare. Intel as a brand is as anti-consumer as a corporation can get. Banking on the buyer's lack of knowledge and ePeen frustrations at every turn.
It really needed the 10nm lithography to reduce the heat generated and to allow a higher clock rate. I kind of feel the same about Nvidia - now I'm waiting to see what the 21? 30? series GPU's will do with smaller lithography. The 200W power draw kind of gives the lie to the 95W TDP figure. That's approaching Threadripper 2 at 250W TDP although whether it sticks to that figure I doubt. First gen Threadripper was 180W I think. So it seems the best deals are not the new gen Nvidia and not the new gen Intel (just looking at Nvidia and Intel). Funny old world. ... and then there's the pricing on Optane ....
Well with this processor if you use Intel optane memory of 32 gb then your computer performance is like a skyrocket. AMD processors may be good but i prefer intel always. Z390 chipset is cool. I personally have 48 GB OF RAM CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16GB 3000MHZ each . Intel optane memory 32 gb. Gigabyte ultra durable motherboard z390, i9 9900k. Seagate 2TB hard drive and other cooling system. Galax GeForce gtx 1660 ti over clock able ddr6 6 gb.
Pricing will seem very bad IF you are only thinking in terms of gaming. if you factor in other things then pricing makes more sense with a CPU that is top at gaming and can deliver fantastic APP performance. Of course, if all you do is 4k gaming, get a 2700x and move on.
In regards to the thermals, check out Debauer video about the i9-9900k. Essentially the conclusion is that the die is too thick, which worsen conductivity and increase heat. Just watch the video, he explains very clearly,-
No, the conclusion is that the chip is too thick - not the solder. The solder has much better conductivity than the silicon, and besides, the silicon is a lot thicker than the solder layer. Did you even watch the same video?! I have no idea how you'd come to that conclusion.
@@mduckernz I Meant the die was too thick. Although the solder is too thick as well, by the same way as the TIM is too thickon earlier cpus, and why people scrape of the adhesive, to bring the Ihs closer to the die.
I did, two years later when price dropped to $299 at micro center. Already had Z390 board with 9600k so it was an easy upgrade and immediately had a buyer for the i5. 9900k should be competitive for atleast a few years.
Just upgraded my i5-9600K to 9900K although I paid €300. Gaming at 4K I notice the frame minimums are much better with the new processor. Temps are great too, mid 60s with a Corsair H100i.
A lot faster than my I7. Doesn't get any hotter unless you want to push over clocking. 89-93 degrees idle and up to 158 very briefly but nothing extreme. Have it set to 75 watts for most use.
People don't have to buy a totally new PC to upgrade! In vast number of situations it would be CPU, Motherboard and Ram (for people on haswell and other DDR3 platforms), for others there are lots of people that already have DDR4 2666+. Like many, I've been waiting to see this 8C from intel, I really wanted to see more. Unfortunately - High price, huge heat output and double the price for slight increase over 8700k. I've been waiting to upgrade from 4790k / Z97... my platinum Seasonic PSU is still good, case is still good, I upgraded to a 10 series card two years ago and not time to upgrade the card, NVME Ssd still good, 360mm Rad good. Just keep that in mind when we compare the cost of a total system as you did because few of your viewers are building from scratch with all new components to jump to 9900k, many people have been waiting for a reason to upgrade. I am glad that at the end you brought up the truth - go ahead and go to x299 for this kind of money. More PCI lanes and cores, but still gonna pay a arm and a leg for that too.
Ezra Litton im on the same Page with you. Still on 4790k and ddr3, my 1080ti doing all the work essentially. Wanted to Upgrade to 8700k but missed the Time slot when they were cheap. Now the chip prices are just absurd. Ddr4 prices falling again so that is nice. I guess i‘ll just up my case to a silent one and crank my haswell to the max. Im also on the fence with amd, so i hope intel gets their Shit together and starts mass producing again that 8700k was nice at 220€...
I just hope AMD can get that clock speed jumped up for Zen 2. If they can manage 4.5/4.6 boost then Intel can go bye bye. That might seem high but with the node reduction to 7nm its definitely not impossible.
So will my Maximus X supply enough power for this CPU through the 2x 4pin plugs or do I need the Z390 chipset M/B with the extra CPU 4pin power plug ? If it drops straight in it will only cost a few hundred $ to upgrade to a soldered chip with more cores and threads rather than upgrading my whole PC :) Custom water loop with 600x120 of radiator and GTX1080 so cooling might be ok. I can see this chip might not suit everyone if they are starting from scratch.
and a 2700x 270w and a 2950x 300-350w when OC fyi just check other websites you'll see, stop comparing one value (usually the lowest making this or that cpu look better) and check complete reviews of the other cpus you'll see they are all nuclear reactors nowadays lol
@@fredEVOIX I dont know how can you compare system powerconsumtion as CPU TDP... what i have saw 4Ghz all core OC is 104w on 2700x compared 140w on 1700... what are clocks for 95w? 3.6Ghz 1 core 7 core 3 ghz on 9900K?
@@Kazya1988 AMD uses a very different definition for TDP, I think it's something like power draw for average clocks at a particular temperature. It's pretty realistic. Intel uses the definition of power draw when all cores are at the base clock, which is very deceptive. For 9900K this is all cores at 3.6GHz.
@Pc ColdWar my computer is in corner near feet and have r7 1700 at 3.7Ghz and Vega 64 on normal power plan atm and it is 95% closed space at 1.2m3... at games no problem but bf1 is a heat problem becouse temp will rice to 70c
I'm a huge fan of Intel, but this pseudo-Gen 9 Coffee Lake refresh is a total band-aid. They would have been better off, reputation-wise, to let their 8000 series continue on until their 10nm process is ready. The original Coffee Lake of one year ago is absolutely fantastic. It was the largest performance jump in a long time, with reasonable pricing. Intel was impatient and pressured with this launch, and it shows. They choked.
@11:20 Hardly a catastrophe ! Rather very methodical, detailed and quite informative. At this price point (unless your need the bragging rights or 144 Hz - still not convinced that is a thing except in RUclips land) Just wait. If your are a container/vm person who kinda games just go Threadripper - 4.2 Ghz all 16 c/32t first gen with a Noctua cooler basic OC - and not even near thermal load - $600
Honestly it's not a bad processor. The price is too high because they just can't produce enough to meet the demand which is crazy right now even at these high prices. Why do people need to justify and cry here even if AMD is cheaper? It isn't as good as these intel chips anyway, and no AMD will never be. There is a reason AMD is the budget option and intel and Nvidia have the market to themselves. Stop crying and buy what you can afford people. Let others enjoy in the meanwhile, their better performance if they can afford it.
Leo, KitGuru - “you don’t have the option of deliding and putting better coolant....” Steve, GN - “hold my GN branded beer glass” Der8auer - “don’t worry, us Germans can drink and delid at the same time”
Didn't Roman say he had eight or ten CPUs to work with? most reviewers, including KitGuru, had one. Mind you I was surprised to see he just worked the heatspreader off without heat. Didn't expect that.
KitGuruTech, the joys of being a world famous overclocker, Intel doesn’t ask if you want one, they ask how many do you need and throw in a couple of spares so you can prop up a wonky table. Like you I was surprised to see him get it off without heating it first after seeing everything he had to do to separate an AMD soldered chip last year. When Intel was rumoured to be soldiering I did think it was going to be the end of deliding as the risks were not worth it but he made it look too simple. Least it means for those overclockers wanting the best clocks, best temperatures and with very deep pockets then it’s still an option.
And take into account most techtubers had the processors in their hands weeks before release and had the time to test and record these videos under the NDA. So most likely KitGuru recorded this review and opinion without any prior knowledge of Der8auer or GN's delidding success.
It looks like you can delid quite easily and it does still take ~10°C off those overclocked temps, it would still make me very nervous to forego my warranty but maybe worth it, although there seems to be a lot of talk lately about liquid metal drying out after a while so I'm really not sure it's worth all the hassle, risk and warranty voiding. I guess it really depends how much £600 is to you.
What would you say for my situation? Currently my gaming pc is 4 years old. It has an old msi 970 gaming mobo and an even older amd 4350 processor I have acquired most of my parts to build a new gaming pc. I'm just missing the CPU. I have the gigabyte auros z390 pro mobo but my debate is do I go with a intel core i7 or i9? I'm leaning on i9 just for the long haul of it. But that price is making me hold up on it which is also put my new build on hold as well obviously. Both the i7 and i9 will blow out what I currently have but I plan on this new pc to be good for at least the next 3-4 years. So would it be wise for me to invest in the i9?
I am still a few generations old. On purpose. My latest system is a GIS server running 7000 series Kaby Lake at 4.2GHz (I needed fast single thread performance and low TDP). My main system is still running an i7-6950X 10-core/20-thread in XMP all-core 3.5GHz (Turbo 4.0GHz). I looked at the i9-9900K and decided no. When I do a future build I'll move into 9th Gen, but I am almost always a couple of generations behind. FYI: I am a media and office/3D software development corporation.
If your application is not highly threaded, the 9700k can match the performance level of the 9900k (See Anandtech reviews). Still its hard to ignore its multi threaded performance advantage over the 9700k.
Good Job Ryzen 2700X by the way the I9-9900k in Poland is release at 750 € and I7-7800K at 520 € when the Ryzen at 350 € so ryzen + motherborad + Ram + M2 250 GB + stock cooler costs the same as I9-9900k with less 10 % perfoamnce Ryzen FTW ok this how is looking for me Intel strategy AMD this year take almost 35 to 45 % of Market but Intel want keep the same profit so they higher price of I7-7800k and I9-9900k so by this plan AMD going to take almot 55% to 60% of market so depend to Intel strategy the next generation I7 will cost 700 $ another did i miss some thing since when we copmare the I9 to Ryzen 7 its not fair yes it's not fair but any way Ryzen WIN
At 1080p the performance difference is over 10% in some scenarios. Yet nothing that justifies the price. My respect to AMD. Can only hope this will be seen through sales.
I come from Poland and this is why i order next week R7 2700x. i9 9900k cost 3300 zł. I must pay 3,7317 zł per 1 dolar. 3300 zł / 3,7317 = 884 dolars. R7 2700x cost 1400 zł (1400 / 3,7317 = 375 dolars). Additionally I will get a cooler in the set. Shame Intel. Shame. Shame. Shame.
Same here in France price wise. Its a weird launch to be honest. I don't exactly understand what the purpose is of that CPU. Its so outclassed. Price is for most people the number 1 factor of why they would buy one product over another. The I9 is not exactly twice as fast as the 2700X. Price is almost there though. I think the king of all is the 2600 though. That one huge value CPU.
Do I need to install additional cooling mechanisms to make this work? I will be doing 4k video editing at most using premiere pro and gtx 2080 graphics card.
I get my 9900K for only 460€ (530$US WITH 20% VAT !), now all of web retailer show the 9900K at 700€ ! (805$US with VAT). With this price, this CPU is really a great choice , unless his huge temp when it's OC.
First time I’ve come across your site, excellent vid, you should have an awful lot more sub’s! Totally agree with you: what’s the point of 9900k? Overpriced, over-hot &, I bet, over-looked once Skylake-x is refreshed. Get an R 2700x. No brainer
Hi. I'm thinking to buy the i9 9900K soon. I have a question. If i have other graphic card should i disable from BIOS the i9 9900K graphics or not ? Also if doesn't matter whatever i do because there will be no conflict with other graphic card, if left enabled, it will raise the heat temperature of i9 9900K compare to off ?
Maybe they only have hyper threading in the halo gamer chip because it is highly unlikely commercial/workstation/productivity users would want to buy it, so less concern on exploits.
Great review thanks. If I need new computer for 4K 265 10 bit video files. What setup d you think will work without needing proxy and will allow me to work free n time line. I already have the 1080 graphic card. Thanks in advance for the knowledge
im building a pc with a 3k budget, i play all kinds of games from triple A to less demanding ones..My dilemma is that im not sure wether i should get a i7-9700k + 2080 or an i5-9600k + 2080TI. I'd get the 8700k but the prices on that one have gone up quite alot. I want high fps with every setting maxes out on 1440p without any stutters.
I'm coming from an i3-6100 with 2 cores on a H170 chipset. The 9900k paired with the Aorus Master sounds like a smart investment for me, despite all the complaining going on. I have used AMD processors before, but I am loyal to Intel, so a few hundred extra is worth it to me.
I know this is an old video BUT I have a i7 8700k running at 4.9 watercooled on a ASUS 370 mb and 32gb of Platinum Dominator ram WITH A STRIX OC GTX 1080TI and I Looooove it :) PS I have Windows installed ON a SAMSUNG EVO as my operating system and I Would reccomend this mate:)
Great video. I have a hard time understanding some of this stuff just because I do not think in those circles. I am in the market for a mini pc box. My needs are 4k. bluetooth, windows is fine but I would like a different o.s. I like to stream to my tv and use a pc for work. is the nuc a good pic? Any hint.advice or choices you recommend?
As much as I'd like to upgrade I will stick with my FIVE year old i7-4790K running all four cores at 4.6Ghz drawing only 105 watts according to HWMonitor for the whole package under extreme stress test with AIDA64, and my core temps are in the 70s. How sad that Intel cannot seem to make any real progress in five years. Hell, the base clock on the i7-4790K is higher than any of the new 9th gen Intel CPU's. WTH?
i intend to buy the 9900k and I dont want to overclock but I want the max stock performance 4.7 on all cores i guess stable. do I need watercooling or is a darkrock enough and is a enermax 600watts enough when using a 2080ti aswell?
As you can see, we tested with an All In One so cannot comment on other coolers. Having said that, check the TDP rating of the be quiet! cooler and compare it to our power figures and you should be able to make an informed decision. Ref the power supply you would be pushing any 600W PSU very hard with that combination of hardware. A quality 800W or more PSu would be a wise idea.
200W is too high for that AIO. That's 682 btus to be removed. What happens when the CPU runs under a very heavy load for long times is the AIO coolant temperature soars like an eagle and 45C coolant temp just isn't going to cut it. This is why Noctua towers beat all but the largest AIOs. A few runs of Cinebench or Blender just isn't long enough. If all you do is game and watch movies then this not apply.
Should i replace my 7700k with a 9900k only for games when running with a 1080ti (upgrade pending)? I'm playing at 1440p with a 165Hz monitor for the foreseeable future.
The question is what resolution are you gaming at? 1440p and above a 2700x would be the go as you have to swap the MB as well I believe, so you could sell the 1080Ti and get a newer GPU with the savings of the 2700x over the 9900K.
No AMD is unfortunately to weak yet, and i don't know when Zen2 will be released. Will it catch up to Intel in IPC or just throw in more cores (useless in games for the next few years)?
@Florian Oprescu My Z390 motherboard has arrived and i'm just waiting for the 9900k (and waiting, and waiting.....) Amd is and probably will be subpar to Intel for high FPS gaming and moreso with even more powerful graphics cards.
... i have a 7700k and it's very amusing to follow the CPU situation since AMD released the Ryzen CPUs. in fact and mainly as a gamer, i believe that my 7700k will provide plenty of power for the next years, no matter what AMD/Intel will throw on the market.
If you're gaming, buy a Celeron G4 (300 series). It's considered overkill for most AAA games and it's only $60. You'll not be streaming with this chip, just open 1 game at a time and no browser in the background running youtube/music. When it games on its own, it's more than enough. If you want basic gaming with apps on the side, get any Ryzen chip. If you want maximum gaming with streaming and extras, get the 8700k and stay put. This is all you really need. If you want full on Emulation @ 4k or even VR, get the 9700k. IF you want fluid emulation with absolutely no lag (for all supported games and SOME unsupported games) the 9900k will not disappoint. Beware of the 2700x. It's a decent chip for the price, but it's not fool proof. The silicon lottery matters here. I built 4 systems with this chip and 3 of them expressed intermittent stuttering. Moving the mouse cursor across the screen showed it sticking every few seconds. I pulled the bad chips and used the 1 good chip to test and see what was wrong. The one good chip did not have the stuttering. I had to return all 3 chips and get new ones. Only 2 of the 3 new ones worked and I was left with 1 bad chip, which I sold and put toward buying the 9900k for myself.
I had this stuttering on my notebook, A10 APU. It was due to installing the latest drivers. I had to fall back about 1 year for driver date to get it working, but I couldn't play some games without the update. AMD is affordable for a reason -_-
Performance was very similar on Z370 and Z390 however, as mentioned, our chosen ASRock Extreme4 was doing some peculiar things with voltage and power,. so it seemed unwise to draw too many conclusions.
The gains on the i9 9900k doesn't make sense for the price they have it at, cost $859 here in Australia. now can get a 8700k for $350 used. if you want to game just get a i7 8700k
If i needed a new cpu then i guess id consider it. But I just got an 8700k like 8 months ago. So i see zero reason to upgrade. But honestly if I was building my pc right now, i would seriously consider going with a 2700x over anything intel has to offer. 300 bux cheaper is money u can spend on something else and it will make very little difference in gaming.
KitGuru, quick jump between slides and Leo is a pain to watch. Have Leo in one corner and the slides in background would allow a much better user experience.
Leo here: I edited the A roll and that was my decision. Here's my thinking: there is a fair amount of data to display and many people watch videos in windows or on small screens. If the KitGuru audience are all using large screens and pause the video to take a good look at the graphs that would be very useful to know. I am open to input and observations on this one.
Hello from Germany! I want to build a new rig (old: i5-2500k, asrock gen3....970ftw...=) i am in everything in pc, not rendering or mining, next card gonna be a 2070 rtx: should i buy the I9-9k, the I7-9k, or even an AMD Ryzen???) Since I allways had Intel CPU, i would prefere them.....SORRY for my bad English Good Night :)
If you have a 144mhz monitor and play at 1080 or at most 2k resolution, perhaps yes, if you have a common monitor of 60hz, then is a useless buy, your monitor will give you only 60fps even if your pc gives you 200 fps , now considering you have to buy a new motherboard, the i9900k and then a 144mhz monitor, it will get expensive, better sell your GPU and buy a new one much better, it will impact more your gaming, now if you play at 4k, then you won't get any more fps out of the 9900k than the 2700x at all, so it depends on your monitor really, and your willingness to spend more cash for 12% up to 30% more fps depending on the games, which you won't notice unless you have a 144mhz monitor..
Since we a long way from there, I was there i close, i buy you coffee and dinner to the staff. Nice point. That got hot. I see the temps on idle and is low, so here that the temps is around 30C and I use AC here to 25c i even can get closer as you test. SO temps is high very. IF you get a 5.00 all cores. You are right X is the way to go. even that is the last year, there is room to get other cpu to get advange. Of course drop to 47 all cores. Still better the X line I will wait on the X refresh and get myself a X299 on amazon. Now 2700x sound better on price. OR reduce the OC to 46 or 47 and then use the 600usd cpu since is what will cost if send it from Amazon to panama. . I did not like the intel cpu.
Holy Smokes! If this CPU reaches temp 90 degree Celsius on that open AIO, whats it gonna be inside a case I wonder!!! I think Intel's "Hidden Chiller" theory is solved, Finally.
It's well over priced, not many people are going to buy it, I still got my amd FX8350, £700 for a processor that's a joke, even i3/i5 does the job when your doing creative work.
@@WhiteLoaf yeah, I got thinkpad t410i, 8gb of ram, 480gb ssd, Intel i3 2.5ghz, and I use Traktor Pro 2 dj software on it and its works like a beast, no audio dropouts or glitches or what ever, my desktop has a amd fx-8350 and I use that for music and video editing, what does the i9 do does it make tea? i9, even the i5/i7 is comming down in price.
RuffFusion4 erm, just wanted to play some games at absurdly high and unreasonable frame rates. 600 quid for 300FPS, that’s only £2 per frame. Fucking bargain
I’ll take Intel’s best over AMD’s best any day. Sure Intel is more expensive but it’s more reliable in overall performance and compatibility as far as PEAK performance goes. It’s simply more reliable overall. AMD stuff seems more unstable and buggy and (wait for updates and only THEN it’ll give Intel a sweat blah blah blah nonsense). I’ll take the greedy company that puts out the best product overall. If it’s truly reliable and gives the best performance without compromise then I’ll pay the price for it. AMD is a good option for someone with little money but it’s not the best, let’s not kid ourselves. There’s a reason Intel and Nvidia run the PC gaming scene in all benchmarks. Even almost every RUclipsr ALWAYS combines Nvidia and Intel in their benchmark videos and for GOOD REASON.
200 watts. Can hardly wait for Apple to put this CPU in a thin notebook and see the internet explode. With commentary about how it is throttling.
Yup, they'll put it in their "thinnest laptop in the world," and it's performance stifle will make it a total waste of hardware and money.

I just purchased a brand new desk top with the i9-9900k and am very happy. I added 6 fans and a all in one water cooler as well.
Been in the PC game a long time. Seeing Intel and AMD beat it out. Hats off to AMD they've really shown Intel up!
It's the Athlon Xp days all over again.... Ahhh, the good Ol' days. (fires up Unreal Tournament Gold)
Well it would be simple economy, but Intel is struggeling to produce enough chips.
purkeypilot - $500 isn’t a lot for a high end chip. They were $700+ in the 90’s that’s over a grand in today’s money, and they were outdated in two years 🤷♂️ if you want best value, don’t get the highest-end chips.
Was planning on upgrading to 9900k but with these results I'll wait for zen 2 because even though I can afford it it's just not worth that amount of money for such a slight improvement of performance.
true that bro who knows zen 2 might be amazing or it might lower the prices either way its a win win for you at the time of purchase.
IM kinda SCARED TO SEE A cpu AT 100C on a normal basis - though i still like g - sync 4 gaming - im hoping to bank on amd 4 THE "HEAT FACTOR"
100 degrees C? the most we saw was 90, which is throttling territory. At least one review pushed their CPU to 100 but wasn't that at 1.45V? hardly a healthy way to treat your CPU.
Loved the digs at principal technology
Cheers
I believe 9th gen supports 128gb of ram.
Yes! I have read that is in the works, but my understanding is that those higher density DIMM's are not released yet? Do you have any more info on that?
hexus.net/tech/news/ram/123290-intel-9th-gen-core-processors-support-128gb-ram/
Also given their pending price, I think I'd probably stick with 64GB.
Intel to u : dear customer we do not work for poor peole byeeee.haha
@@paul9478 In that case, poor also means "not mentally challenged". Too bad the world is full of suckers like that, and for the time being, Intel still has a lot of unmerited mindshare. Intel as a brand is as anti-consumer as a corporation can get. Banking on the buyer's lack of knowledge and ePeen frustrations at every turn.
7y6😮😮😅😊
Of course, if all you do is 4k gaming, get a 2700x and move on.
if you think that gaming is playing 4k at 60fps you're not a gamer, you like to watch pretty colors...real gamers play at 120+Hz
In regards to the thermals, check out Debauer video about the i9-9900k. Essentially the conclusion is that the die is too thick, which worsen conductivity and increase heat. Just watch the video, he explains very clearly,-
checked it out, also checked other channels that say the opposite... non the the wiser.
@@bleaberry6045 don't know about which other you watched, but I would take debauers opinion in this matter over most others
The chip itself is what's too thick, not the solder.
No, the conclusion is that the chip is too thick - not the solder. The solder has much better conductivity than the silicon, and besides, the silicon is a lot thicker than the solder layer.
Did you even watch the same video?! I have no idea how you'd come to that conclusion.
@@mduckernz
I Meant the die was too thick. Although the solder is too thick as well, by the same way as the TIM is too thickon earlier cpus, and why people scrape of the adhesive, to bring the Ihs closer to the die.
Excellent review! :) (as usual)
One remark though, the camera is focused on the background instead of the components on the table. :/
You have luck with that 5.2 for most of them 5.0 is max and temps are 'nice and hot'. And that 250W+ power consumption is nice too.
AMD have something very spectacular coming soon. once again intel fails, not as if i care anyway, used amd for 30 years.

Nice kit guru been years just checking online reviews now seeing you in person nice haha
you are a doctor ... seriously the most amazing really great review i ever watched at all levels.
nicely done.
So will my Maximus X supply enough power for this CPU through the 2x 4pin plugs or do I need the Z390 chipset M/B with the extra CPU 4pin power plug ?
If it drops straight in it will only cost a few hundred $ to upgrade to a soldered chip with more cores and threads rather than upgrading my whole PC :)
Custom water loop with 600x120 of radiator and GTX1080 so cooling might be ok.
I can see this chip might not suit everyone if they are starting from scratch.
I did! But looking forwards for the 10th generation!
95w? Isint it 220w cpu when it used at normal clock?
@Pc ColdWar yeap it is realy shame. I have ryzen 1700 and on stock it realy uses that 65w and 4Ghz all cores 130-140w.
and a 2700x 270w and a 2950x 300-350w when OC fyi just check other websites you'll see, stop comparing one value (usually the lowest making this or that cpu look better) and check complete reviews of the other cpus you'll see they are all nuclear reactors nowadays lol
Let others enjoy in the meanwhile, their better performance if they can afford it.
what demand???? you can go buy one right now lol there is like no demand for it
Leo, KitGuru - “you don’t have the option of deliding and putting better coolant....”
Steve, GN - “hold my GN branded beer glass”
Der8auer - “don’t worry, us Germans can drink and delid at the same time”
Didn't Roman say he had eight or ten CPUs to work with? most reviewers, including KitGuru, had one.
My $290 8700k is feeling really good right now. Glad I did a new build 45 days ago.
Have you got another much shorter video where you just tell us the answer?
Very principled
Good Job Ryzen 2700X
by the way the I9-9900k in Poland is release at 750 € and I7-7800K at 520 € when the Ryzen at 350 €
so ryzen + motherborad + Ram + M2 250 GB + stock cooler costs the same as I9-9900k with less 10 % perfoamnce
Ryzen FTW
ok this how is looking for me Intel strategy
AMD this year take almost 35 to 45 % of Market but Intel want keep the same profit so they higher price of I7-7800k and I9-9900k
so by this plan AMD going to take almot 55% to 60% of market
so depend to Intel strategy the next generation I7 will cost 700 $
another did i miss some thing since when we copmare the I9 to Ryzen 7 its not fair
yes it's not fair but any way Ryzen WIN
At 1080p the performance difference is over 10% in some scenarios. Yet nothing that justifies the price. My respect to AMD. Can only hope this will be seen through sales.
i think AMD will keep push on Intel to take more share of market
One can hope. But this will heavily depend on the next line up too. At least to kick Intel off that throne. Competition is great.
Wait for Ryzen 3 for me i think. >___
Also if doesn't matter whatever i do because there will be no conflict with other graphic card, if left enabled, it will raise the heat temperature of i9 9900K compare to off ?
on Gigabyte boards you have to disable multi core enhancement so that it wont throttle at 5+GHz.
175 W At stock settings for the 9900k? Wow that 95w TDP really doesn't mean ass!
Have you built a system with that ASRock X399M Taichi board?
im building a pc with a 3k budget, i play all kinds of games from triple A to less demanding ones..My dilemma is that im not sure wether i should get a i7-9700k + 2080 or an i5-9600k + 2080TI. I'd get the 8700k but the prices on that one have gone up quite alot. I want high fps with every setting maxes out on 1440p without any stutters.
What resolution you want to play?
I'm coming from an i3-6100 with 2 cores on a H170 chipset. The 9900k paired with the Aorus Master sounds like a smart investment for me, despite all the complaining going on. I have used AMD processors before, but I am loyal to Intel, so a few hundred extra is worth it to me.

7820x at 4.4Ghz OC? What kind of broken OC is that?
As much as I'd like to upgrade I will stick with my FIVE year old i7-4790K running all four cores at 4.6Ghz drawing only 105 watts according to HWMonitor for the whole package under extreme stress test with AIDA64, and my core temps are in the 70s. How sad that Intel cannot seem to make any real progress in five years. Hell, the base clock on the i7-4790K is higher than any of the new 9th gen Intel CPU's. WTH?
Thanks Leo. Excellent and honest review as ever. Well done.
i intend to buy the 9900k and I dont want to overclock but I want the max stock performance 4.7 on all cores i guess stable. do I need watercooling or is a darkrock enough and is a enermax 600watts enough when using a 2080ti aswell?
As you can see, we tested with an All In One so cannot comment on other coolers. Having said that, check the TDP rating of the be quiet! cooler and compare it to our power figures and you should be able to make an informed decision. Ref the power supply you would be pushing any 600W PSU very hard with that combination of hardware. A quality 800W or more PSu would be a wise idea.
Awesome review.. especially possibility of skylake x as an alternate option..
You only get the i9-9900k value when you are doing heavy processing tasks.

I think it's a British thing ;)
Hey, Intel, where's the rest of 20 cores at 5.0 GHz that you advertised?
... i have a 7700k and it's very amusing to follow the CPU situation since AMD released the Ryzen CPUs. in fact and mainly as a gamer, i believe that my 7700k will provide plenty of power for the next years, no matter what AMD/Intel will throw on the market.
AMD is affordable for a reason -_-
How did the 9900k work on z370? Any test result?
Performance was very similar on Z370 and Z390 however, as mentioned, our chosen ASRock Extreme4 was doing some peculiar things with voltage and power,. so it seemed unwise to draw too many conclusions.
@KitGuruTech What's the test rig model you are using? I love it! Cheers
what about if im upgrading from a i5 2500k? Was really looking forward to this launch, now you make it seem like its just way over priced
Cause it is overpriced for most user
The gains on the i9 9900k doesn't make sense for the price they have it at, cost $859 here in Australia. now can get a 8700k for $350 used. if you want to game just get a i7 8700k
Great channel. You definitely need more subs.

And everyone who bought one did well for themselves. Still can keep up over five years later.
1.35v ? 🔥 mine doesn’t need that much
If i needed a new cpu then i guess id consider it. But I just got an 8700k like 8 months ago. So i see zero reason to upgrade. But honestly if I was building my pc right now, i would seriously consider going with a 2700x over anything intel has to offer. 300 bux cheaper is money u can spend on something else and it will make very little difference in gaming.
Brought a 8700k like 2 months ago for $290....I'm good with that chip for 2-3 years.
you have to be Principle when it comes to Intel related Technology :D
I am running it at 5Ghz on all cores with air.
What cooler?
KitGuru, quick jump between slides and Leo is a pain to watch.
Have Leo in one corner and the slides in background would allow a much better user experience.
Leo here: I edited the A roll and that was my decision. Here's my thinking: there is a fair amount of data to display and many people watch videos in windows or on small screens. If the KitGuru audience are all using large screens and pause the video to take a good look at the graphs that would be very useful to know. I am open to input and observations on this one.

Excellent Review
hi should I bin my ryzen 2700x and upgrade to the 9900k thanks
If you have a 144mhz monitor and play at 1080 or at most 2k resolution, perhaps yes, if you have a common monitor of 60hz, then is a useless buy, your monitor will give you only 60fps even if your pc gives you 200 fps , now considering you have to buy a new motherboard, the i9900k and then a 144mhz monitor, it will get expensive, better sell your GPU and buy a new one much better, it will impact more your gaming, now if you play at 4k, then you won't get any more fps out of the 9900k than the 2700x at all, so it depends on your monitor really, and your willingness to spend more cash for 12% up to 30% more fps depending on the games, which you won't notice unless you have a 144mhz monitor..
dont bin it, sell it on gumtree or ebay for 200$ or a desperate friend looking for a small computer build or upgrade
Ha, I like the PT jab in the beginning!
Games running on the Linux Steam client should use as many cores as they can get.
Only reason I'm even considering the 9900K, is because i have a compatible z370 board i received for free.
wow! a 1300 watt PSU should have that setup well covered.
8600k is less than half the price.... for gaming (and light professional work) best Intel bang for the buck....
My i7 4790k is getting worse. I'm afraid I will have to do upgrade this year.
How can anyone spend 24 minutes spouting out nonsense when it would only take about 1 minute to say that the i9 processor is trash?
Ouch calling out Principal Technologies, I love it keep it up Leo.
Think i'll keep my 5820K @ 4.5GHz for a bit longer.
can someone help me out my keyboard doesnt work im poor af im running a core i3
Nice toaster 😄,96 degrees it's HOT in the caaaseee, ohyeah ,96 degrees in the casee😄
Holy Smokes! If this CPU reaches temp 90 degree Celsius on that open AIO, whats it gonna be inside a case I wonder!!!
I think Intel's "Hidden Chiller" theory is solved, Finally.
Unless Intel has na ace up their sleeve with the Ice Lake CPU late 2019, things will go from bad to worse for them.
600 quid!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha
No. Just no.
It's well over priced, not many people are going to buy it, I still got my amd FX8350, £700 for a processor that's a joke, even i3/i5 does the job when your doing creative work.
@@JigglyRuff its bollocks innit
@steve levario yeah my next upgrade is gonna be amd ryzen 7 gaming rig desktop and my dj laptop will be an i9 when the price comes down.
