Hi Michael - You would not think something so simple as placing the curtains slightly back would make such a difference, definitely one to remember. Cotton buds as chimney's, what a clever and simple solution. What a cracking build. Regards Chris
Thank you Chris! I was really surprised by just how much of a difference those curtains made to the building as a whole. Thanks for watching as ever! Michael.
That net curtain/blind technique is very effective - it stood out as soon as the intro started and it adds a real sense of life to the model. Glad to see that the build is powered by tea and Weetabix. I imagine the occasional Bourbon biscuit helps too…
Hi Michael, it's really fascinating to watch your layout gradually coming together and in a way, surprising to realise how important are curtains at windows to the overall appearance of a building. The grey nets are so true to some of the hotels found at places such as railway stations. Great video, thank you for posting, take care, Ian
Thanks Ian. I too was surprised by just what an effect the curtains made. In the next Hotel video you will see I’ve modelled one of the windows open and that takes it to yet another level. Simple things but such an effect! Thanks for watching as always! Michael.
Hi Michael - great update and always a pleasure to listen to how you've gone about the construction. Building looks so good even in its half finished state. Cheers Euan
Hey Michael, really like the offset idea for the curtains to add depth, definitely going to use that idea. Your design ideas are great. Could only imagine the quality of your work if you had a laser cutter. I see you spending a considerable amount of time, painstakingly cutting such small parts. This would speed up your mockup effort, which i love to see. Thanks so much for sharing!
Spent this morning catching up on RUclips videos. This build really is progressing very well and the results really are superb. This is going to be a real masterpiece of modelling Michael. Stephen
Thanks Stephen. It is taking its time, but I am really pleased with how it is coming together. You will have seen a sneak peek of how it's currently looking in the running session video. It makes a super backdrop to the station and I am really pleased with how it is coming on. --Michael
Another great video. I’ve dug my sons old Hornby train set out from the loft for my grandson and I’m going to go back to the Inkscape tutorials and try to build him a little station for his little oval of track 😂
I’m glad to see it’s not just me that suffered from technical issues with the camera! Mine mostly involve filming the back of my head! Great details with the dormer and the gutters, and I totally agree the net curtains really finish the windows of a treat!
Another great video Michael!! It is amazing how you can work with such small pieces. I am both dreading and looking forward to the day I actually start scratch building my buildings for Gosport Junction. I will certainly be buying a set of those York Magnet Mates you use. I absolutely love following how Chandwell is developing and I think the journey is brilliant. I'm not sure if it would work as well as your method but in the past I have used dried baby wipes to create curtains. If you brush PVA onto them then you can bunch them up so they have folds in them and once dry they will be rigid in the shape you have created. I stole this off a RUclips channel called The Terrain Tutor. Admittedly, I have used this for making bigger scale buildings for war gaming. lol Keep up the great work! Carl
I love the curtain idea. I will give it a try. Thanks for your comments and if your real buildings are as good as your mock ups then we are in for a treat!! All the best. Michael.
Hi Michael, I must say I love watching your build series and I am learning so much! I do have one idea, not sure if it would work but why not try using cigarette papers for the flashing where your dormer windows join the roof and below the dormer window. the paper should colour easily with thinned acrylic. For the sake of a few pennies it may work. Loved the curtain technique, it really looks effective. All the best Tony.
Michael. Since moving down south from the North East to Yorkshire, you have picked up some really bad accounting habits. In Yorkshire they never add in the cost of the tea to a project. Sloppy accounting like that can lead to huge overspends on tight budgets. Nevertheless, I think the community will forgive you this time. ☕🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☕ Straight edge to apply a thin bead of PVA is superb. Top tip. Thanks
Ah Peter! Never fear. I’m not accounting for tea drunk. I did start, but my spreadsheet couldn’t handle the huge numbers involved and I had to send my computer away to be refurbished! Michael.
Another excellent video, Michael (I'm currently building an overbridge using card from Asda's version of Weetabix boxes - it's the same stuff). I like your costings, too - it's a good job you don't cost in your time!! Superb modelling!
What do you mean there is no hotel interior detail??? I’d expect you to have included mini bar, TV and beds! Of course I’m joking! As I’ve said before it’s kinda sad we’ll never get to see this masterpiece in the flesh but your videos certainly keep us looking forward to more! Running out of superlatives Michael, it’s simply up there with the best.
Hello Michael. I believe, I could be wrong, that the more fiddlely parts of the build are behind you. It looks like a pretty straight shot down the wall now. Or am I wrong? Always. another great episode of a fantastic scratch build. Thanks, see you next time.
Ah Norman. Looks can be deceiving. Next week is an easy one. A nice flat bit of wall. But then… we have the dressed stone of the ballroom, the intricate ironwork of the juliette balconies, and the hexagonal, dome-topped tower. 😂
Hi Michael, this just keeps getting better and better. I don't think I could handle the dimensions involved with the dormer build, since my eyesight isn't what it was, but there's no denying the overall effect. Is the whitewashed stone texture you've used for some of the build from Scalescenes? Thanks for posting and stay well.

Oh yes, the occasional packet of Bourbons... Or three... :)

Thanks Euan! Believe it or not, I think it's not even quite at the one-third complete state yet! :-O Michael.
Your building modelling is truly remarkable considering the small scale. I know.
Thank you David! --Michael.

Awesome, thank you! :)
Hiya Michael, once again well executed and delivered. Extreme N scale detail which just keeps getter better. Excellent, stay safe and well, Chris
Many thanks Chris! You too! :)
Hi Michael, many thanks for the neat trick to give the curtains more depth! Great work and I learn something with each video.
Glad it was helpful! All the best! Michael.

Lovely detail Michael and a lovely fiddly build, just what I like! Cheers mate, John
Thanks John! Really appreciate it. Watch out for tomorrow’s video. There’s a bit you may like. 👍👍
Loving it. The space between the curtains and the window was a great idea. Subtle, but adds a lot!
Thanks so much! It really is surprising how much of a difference that gap makes!
Great video once again, inspiration to all us fellow N Gauge modellers!! Cheers Gary SC68
Thank you Gary! I’m pleased with how well the hotel is coming along. Michael.
Amazing as always Michael. Interesting about the different cardboard used in cereal boxes. Those windows look great.
Thank you Roy! Michael.
It’s amazing what you can achieve when combining a Weet Bix packet and a bit of glue with a lot of skill and patience
It really is! Thank you for watching! Michael.

That is awesome! Go for it Stu! Let me know how you get on! :)
Loving this series Michael, the details are fantastic.👍
Andrew🙂
Glad you like them Andrew! :)
Amazing work! Not done railway modelling in about 25 years but it was nothing like this back then... looking forward to seeing your layout progress
Many thanks!
The curtains look great!
Thank you! Michael
Nice top Video 👍👍🔝👌.
Greetings Gert
Thank you Gert!
Amazing build, enjoying it immensely
Thank you Dave!

Exactly!! Hahah. There's nothing like the feeling when you look and realise you've not even pressed Record!
Well done Michael.
Thank you Adrian.

That’s a brilliant idea Tony. I will have to give that a go. I have been pondering about that gap and the joins. Thank you! All the best. Michael.
Absolutely superb!!

Thanks Paul! The whitewashed stone is the Scalescenes Ashlar texture just printed in a bleached-out style.
This series is sponsored by Weetabix :D
If they send me a few boxes every now and then, I will happily make as many dormers as they need :)
