AI is simultaneously horrifying and exciting. We are seeing the entire career of a photographer who likes the global leaders, the 80's sitcom aesthetic and Harry Potter universe generated in a week/month/hours(?).
Yeah it's scary. There's nothing we can do to stop it, but we just have to hope the good people will use it more than the bad people, and that it doesn't escape containment too soon
I know your heart’s in the right place, but this attitude of “it’s inevitable” is just a load of crap! Is AI development a law of nature? No, obviously not- it’s the result of humans making choices about what technology to create. Is it too easy to do, and so too easy to prevent? No: training these things takes billions of dollars, and many weeks of runtime on the best supercomputers we have- not exactly hard to spot. “b-but China!!! They’ll do it!!” The US and the Soviet Union signed a nuclear disarmament treaty at the height of the Cold War and mutually reduced their nukes held by 90%. So clearly, it’s possible for global super powers to mutually agree and follow through with slowing down the pursuit of a dangerous technology. It’s dangerous to think a thing inevitable- if it is, it is, but if it isn’t, all preventative measures are seen as futile. AI is only as inevitable as we are weak of will.
@@FlaminPigz7 I am more anti AI than you think. It was the impact of Tsar Bomba that caused the nuke treaty. The world will move on a AI moratorium only after it causes a global recession. The cat is out of the bag because you can stall it not ban. The number of nukes have receded only in two countries, newer holders of the tech are building more(with Pakistan pioneering the gun against its own head strategy), and the rest of the world remains aspirational to acquire the capability. All it takes for the moratorium to break is one of its leaders to break the vow(US pissed off against India, Taiwan or Japan for instance). It's time to welcome back the world of economic colonialism, commodity monopoly and the end of global trade.
@@FlaminPigz7 Unfortunately the rebutal of your argument can be found within the lines that you wrote yourself: Nukes are a perfect example of something ridiculously destructive that humanity still decided to pursue to the max, and while both the US and the Soviets have agreed to reduce their already HUGE stockpiles they both still own enough of these things to destroy the entire planet which we'll both agree is mental but here we are and nukes aren't going anywhere...That's why AI is unavoidable
