As someone who's running four slim on-wall 10" subs (admittedly not at this level individually)s with 250W each and DSP to shape the response, it's been great seeing more of these kind of designs coming out, especially from brands such as Buchardt, System Audio and the like. Modern DSP, class D amps and better drivers have really pushed the way a compact subwoofer can perform forwards.

Love the design. I'm running a 2.1 system utilizing a similarly shaped enclosure in a master bedroom. It's about the same dimensions as the SUB10, however I am using a SB Acoustics 10" driver (SB29NRX75-8), and it's matching passive radiator mounted on the opposite side with rubber feet so the passive radiator has clearance. So the active driver is "up" firing lol. The mains are SB Acoustics DIY KIT Micro 2. The reason I needed this shape is so it would fit under my bed and out of site (WAF). It's being powered with a 500 watt bash amp mounted in a project box (also out of site), connected to the Wiim ARC app. I utilized their room correction with a professional mini mic connected to my iPhone. This setup is versatile and has a ton of headroom. It will shake the house if I want it to. Will play low and high. Fun stuff

I have the Burchardt i150 integrated amplifier, and it has the same room correction feature. The following points are based on my personal experience and are meant to inform anyone who considers one of their powered products, because I think they all share common software and perhaps hardware foundations.
First off I have to say that overall the amp is a very good product with great sound, build quality and aesthetics.
Plus I would add that the Burchardt team have been exceptionally helpful, dedicated and responsive, and seem to go out of their way to keep customers happy.
Having said that, if the room correction feature specifically and the software features in general (e.g. EQ) are a major part of your purchasing decision, I think there are some things to consider before buying. Especially if returning the product (and Buchardt have an exceptionally good policy in this regard) would still be a hassle for you.
First off, the room correction itself, as far as I understand, is not as "deep" as some other software solutions, like Dirac.
If I understand correctly, Buchardt's solution only adjusts frequencies, but does not do anything with timing, which might be good enough in some cases but not in others.
Overall, you're getting room correction algorithms which are very hard to do, from a company that has less experience with them than some lf the competition.
Secondly, the experience of setting up room correction, while theoretically way simpler than something like Dirac or REW, is in practice a bit of a hassle. At least it was for me.
Theoretically, you just go around the room once, waving your phone/microphone around, look at the curve, send it to the product, and forget about it forever.
In practice, I personally had been through this sequence of actions several dozens of times and never got the room correction to sound decent. I now gave up on it entirely.
And what's more frustrating, every time I did it, I got different results.
Plus the curve always seems to "disappear" from the app. I mean the graphical representation of it. The sound still changes, but you can't see the graph where it's supposed to be. Perhaps a minor inconvenience, but it adds up to a lackluster overall experience (see more below).
Now, admittedly, I have a relatively large room, with some weird proportions. It could certainly be the case that in most commonly shaped and/or sized rooms you'll be able to get the room correction up and running much faster, and it will end up sounding great.
Nonetheless, the inconsistency of my results and the fact that I ended up not using the room correction at all should, I think, be taken into account before purchasing. Especially if you have an exceptionally large and/or awkwardly shaped room.
Also take into account that if you don't have an iPhone you'll need to purchase the microphone, which is not cheap and does nothing else except for that single job of setting up room correction.
Additionally, the smartphone app through which you'd be managing the room correction process, and basically every other "advanced" feature like EQ, is not the greatest one around.
Just for comparison, I also have an SVS subwoofer in the same room. That aub has an app with very similar features (but without room correction) and the SVS app is a lot better.
One issue with the Buchardt app is that it does not "know" how to work in the background without losing connection to the product. So if you fire up the app, do some adjustments, then want to listen to music for a while, then go back to the app to adjust some more (even simple volume adjustments), you'll find that the app no longer recognizes the product, and you'll need to swipe it to death and then revive it, run through the whole connection sequence (which takes a couple of seconds, and often fails) and only then do what you wanted.
In contrast, the SVS app, which uses the exact same connection technology (Bluetooth), does not have this issue and maintains connection for days without a problem.
Then there's the user experience in the app itself, which isn't bad but also isn't great either.
Some of the features, such as setting up an EQ curve and saving it, seem unnecessarily cumbersome.
For another comparison, I have a WIIM streamer which has way more features and still manages to seem easier to use with most of them.
Other features simply don't work. There's a button that says "Subwoofer on/off" that does absolutely nothing. I asked Buchardt about it and they said that this feature is still in development. That was about 2 years ago. Either make it work, or remove the button. Just leaving it up there makes it seem like you don't really care about the software experience.
Speaking of which, in the 2 plus years that I own this product, it did not receive a single software update. And not only the amp, neither did the app (which should be a lot easier to update).
So my own personal impression is this: Buchardt seem to make exceptional hardware with mediocre software. And while the overall package would probably be very enjoyable for most people, and gives very good value per price, it is not without issues, and in some areas seem a bit neglected.
Buchardt is a small startup with a tiny team. I don't hold them at fault and certainly wish them well, especially with their exceptional customer service. But if you're going to spend you hard earned money and/or limited time on this earth on one of their products, I do believe you should take these things into consideration.
Having said all that, I'd still consider buying this sub if I did not have the SVS. Pending on getting good reviews, of course.

@@orenshamir Wow massive thanks for this! I'm currently using REW and was considering to get miniDSP/Dirac but this showed up seemingly as an alternative as I could use a new sub. But thanks to your comment, looks like I'll have to look deeper.

    • @madsbuchardt7845
      @madsbuchardt7845 4 месяца назад +6

The sub10 does make sense with all of our active speakers, besides maybe the A700 unless you want to go completly nuts and add multiple subs.
The sub10 is incredibly powerful, a single of them beats a pair of A700 in bass output when utilizing the boundary reinforcement effect. A10 in its standard form with producing super deep bass does not really go super loud while doing so, so the sub10 would take away all the strain from the a10 If added. You would simply do the crossover in the buchardt app to where you add a high pass filter to the A10 on any mastertuning. There is also the 60hz high pass mastertuning for the a10, if you do not use preamp that can do high pass filters.
