Any suggestion for finishing a batch of like 24-30 hooks at a time? It's a pita to wire wheel them all because they are a weird shape so they take forever and sometimes get grabbed and thrown by the wire wheel. I feel like I'm spending way too much time finishing them compared to forging them all. Idk if it matters but I typically use 1/4" square
Great vid, does the oil last long for rust protection, I'm trying to figure out the best rust protection for my bottle openers, and does putting it on hotter steel bake it in instead of a layer on top? thanks
I laughed out loud when you said "This is how I do it" Man, why do people feel you are wrong just because you accomplish the same task in a different method. I get the same all the time with my BBQ videos. It's like if we take 2 different routes to get to the same point but both make it there on time how am I wrong?
+SDSBBQ exactly! Praise God for you brother finally someone gets it lol :-) I think it comes from the fact that it's human nature to want to be the expert in something. That is why sometimes it is so hard for me to take criticism and other times so easy for me to dish it out. One day hopefully we will mature as a human race maybe in another thousand years lol
Hey brother.. curious what I should coat a forged steel ice pick with to make it "food friendly" as I'm chipping away. We will be using said ice for drinks.
+Ryan Hilldale if you're using it for chipping ice for drinks I wouldn't coat it with anything reason being you don't want to take the chance for the ice to taste funny or cause any weird allergies I if somebody is allergic to olives peanuts coconut etc.etc oils. Just from holding and working with it everyday it should stay recently clean of any rust when steel rust it is because of a lack of use and moisture. Thank you for the question I hope this helped God bless you
I have also heard good things about using a butcher brush. It is like a regular steel brush except it uses flat bristles instead of round wires. It works better at getting the scale off than a wire brush. Joey van der Steeg (another RUclips blacksmith) uses them & he did a video (ruclips.net/video/-6IWilfMxos/видео.html) of them a few months ago.

Very helpful video, do you have any advice on blackened finishes for heat treated steel?
Another great and informative video
Do you ever sand blast a piece, that usually cleans up metal pretty good.
How do you finish the meat skewers? I've watched a lot of your vids and love how you explain things.
+andrew hunt I finished the meat skewers with coconut oil. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos God bless

Did you end up finishing the pick with anything?
When you do your brass brush finish do you have a specific kind of brass brush? Everything I see at the stores are coarse brushes does that matter?
Hi James, sorry it took me a bit to track it down. I had difficulty locating the exact brush I have, but this one is similar. ebay.to/2voGOop

+Ray Zierle unfortunately I do not have any info on it it was bought for me as a birthday present
