Hey alec I am almost 100% sure your never gonna see this as this video is 7 years old but you have inspired me to become a blacksmith and I wanna say thank you I'm working on my first anvil stand as we speak I'm glueing it together likely sometime the week after next so I can bend the straps ima use to finish it thank you for the wonderful things you have shown us all
You sir are not only a great blacksmith but also a great teacher thank you
I love your new style, but I still miss these kinds of videos.
Same
Pleasure to watch, once again!
Great videos with good commentary!!! What kind of anvil is that, it looks very useful rather then the more 'common image' style.
Thank you for these videos!
Very nice video
Great video all the way around. Got some great info out of it, thanks.
nicely explained. thanks a lot mate
Can you pleaaaaaaase continue this series
Fantastic!!! :) I've learned so much from this! You are an excellent teacher mate, very well made and commented video! Keep forging, keep teaching! Thank you very much!
All the best,
Matej

No offense at all "i love this guy and his videos" but... i swear he sounds like Stewart from family guy when he narrates... maybe Will could be Brian... lol j/k he's a true master

I’ve followed since the beginning. These vids are awesome. I LOVE the production value you’ve added to the later videos, the amazing camera work... but these “tutorials” for those of us who have followed for a long time and have taken time to put together the resources necessary to get started. Just got my first forge put together yesterday and fired it up. It’s magical.
I think, that if you re-visited some of the basic skills, tutorial stuff with the advanced production value would be an amazing project. And bring a lot of people along with these old world skills.
Love you guys.
I've been watching you for literal years and have been hooked since. I finally have a forge and "anvil" and this leaf hook is what I'm going to try and actually make. Even though your quite a bit younger than me, you have definitely helped me more than I could explain. Watching your videos have helped me in so many different ways. Obviously not just blacksmithing since I've JUST starting but the discipline you have in everything you do. I've tried to take a lot of that and put it towards other parts of my life. Thank you
i cant give you enough likes you deserve
+KratosCZero Thank you Sir! Means a lot :D
reminded me of bob ross
both of you are legends
Alec Steele- thank you for opening my eyes to new great projects to do. I got into blacksmithing to make knifes and weapons but you have inspired me to do tools, ornamental art and all sorts of really neat things so that is again dude
My anvil shows up next week. I've been wanting to get into this for years. Finally taking the plunge. I think I'll just work my way through these beginner vids and I learn. I got all my tools, even a diy forge and some rebar. Once my anvil gets here, I'll be ready to hit some metal. Very excited.
I'm glad I found these tutorials buried under all the newer stuff on your channel! I'm starting a beginners blacksmithing class in a little over a month!
My leaf stems keeps getting crack in it and breaks the leaf off. Am i working the metal to cold?
Holy shot I found him again after I lost Alec for 5 years
your like the bob Ross of blacksmithing
Alec.. Well done! This was the 1st project I ever made in class. I do like the play by commentary on your how-to videos.
I sure would like to see the details/measurements on your propane forges and burners.
Thanks for the video..
Shad
+shadowcastre Yep, these wall hooks are great beginner's projects. I'm sure you did well!
Hello mate I’m just starting out you got any tips
Just made my first one of these today. Great project to learn on. Doesn't look anywhere near your amazing leaves. But hopefully it comes in time. I would share a picture if I could figure out how. Thanks for the tutorial. You rock.
Great video for beginners like me!
Alec, you make it look so easy and I appreciate your 'basic' lessons so much. I am a beginner and had much success with my first two tiny projects but am having the most difficult time recreating the conditions!?! Beginners luck? but I have a grand time trying though. Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year with much success in the future.
+Frank Fomkin Thank you very much! I hope you have more success in the future :)
Like making a punch... making a hot cut hardy hole tool , making drift tools etc
Lovely work and a great video to follow along to mate, keep um coming!!
+workingwithiron Thank you so much Nath!
I miss this version of Alec
Question for you.. all of the excess steel, do you melt it down or set it aside in "rubbish"
+RoughHands Co. Rubbish :)
Alec Steele I'll take it!!!
I never found the free e-book
i like the way you talk
i like apple!!!
Thanks so much

For several intro videos, you use the round die of your hammer for tapers, etc... What if we don't have a rounding hammer? Will it just be slower to form the taper? Or will the technique need to change to get a similar result
Prfect .😍
Just forged my first leaf hook, I've been following your videos for a while, and just took the plunge and started pounding iron!
You are an excellent teacher. Really nice pacing and detailed explanation with no fluff. Superb.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge...the commentary is excellent.
+bukofezra Thank you for the kind words! It is my pleasure to be of value! :)
Just made my first blacksmithing project, made a leaf end hook! thanks for your excellent videos!
So different from your newer videos, but ultimately much more instructional.
Of course, I guess that was the point
Nicely done, thank you for the video and demonstration.
This is more enjoyable and helpful than the later videos, where everything seems to be about power hammers, Damascus and flashy video editing work.
Exactly
Any chance of a video for making a basic forge and the basic tools required for knife making
In for the life of me can't taper like that or extent the metal on the edge of the anvil. I keep getting cold shuts and ruining the metal from the edge of the anvil (it's rounded) because I can't find the raise to case a long taper
Is blacksmithing profitable?
great work again! looking forward to the next!
how do you make a punch with letters on it? or would you suggest buying one?
Great instructions for me as I'm a New-bee
Thanks for a great video Sir
The Bob Ross of blacksmithing.
Really loved that, Alec you're a very talented young man. Good on ya for keeping this craft alive.
Very nice. Thanks for the upload.
I really enjoy your videos, I've learned a lot from them, keep up the good work
Always like new projects and new ideas even simpler ones
his narration is excellent. a pleasure to watch!!
What size stock are you using?
Very nice
vernon slatton pp0pp
Mesmerising, I like your style.
What kind of hammer do you use?
Happy Easter, and you earned sub.
Great work! I've started a folder "Alec" for the handbooks. Thank you, Detlev
Wehoo! Thank you so much :D
My forge comes tomorrow. What metal do you recommend to start with trying to work on these.
Mild steel
any books you suggest?
Harbor freight anvil vs block mild steel?
Rusty Shacolfurd Block of mild will serve you better. Those Harbor Freight ones aren't worth the money.
get alec to a million
@AlecSteele thank you for these. I've spent 30 years on this earth without any passion in life. I've been watching your videos for about 2 years now, and you've given me a passion; Blacksmithing. I can't wait to start my own forge and shape the metal into whatever comes to mind. Thank you, Alec
What do you think would be a fare price to charge for these? I want to make and sell some of these, but I don't want to overcharge people. Thanks!
+dsigamerman I sell these for £20 ($30USD) currently! :)
***** Thanks for the reply! Your videos are really great. By the way, my name is Alec, as well lol
oooo throwback
Very cool! thanks for doing what you do
+SlowEarl1 Thank you for being appreciative and supportive :) Have a lovely evening!
