must have been about 30 yrs ago that i first rode this, they had a radar speed readout just before the last turn, i saw numbers in the 80's.I have ridden it many times since, was better when all the gear was new, but it'still good.if you want a fast run: go in slack periods, wait for a long gap to the sled in front- a really long gap, take style notes from the olympic luge, use all the start area, run jump on the sled pull on the sides of the chute, hold down the brake with your leg, cross ankles, hold the sides and lay back, memorise the track, take all your pocket money. make a big effort to get it right, as friction burns hurt.Born 9/2/45-never got old
Oh lordy!!! Wheeeee is right!!!! I don't know when I'll get to ride another cement apline slide here in the USA?:( The last one I rode was at Atitash in New Hampshire 7 years ago.:(I'd love to ride a coaster next time and the cloeset one to me is in Maryland.I do get up to Md.every few years but mostly to the Wash DC area.
I have ridden that many years ago when i lived in Canberra...wicked track, not cheap, but expensive either. No i live in NH USA, just havent had a chance to ride attitash yet :) You brake by pulling back in the stick between your legs that push a friction pad onto the track underneath the sled. I would say no brakes used in this because you can hear them moreso when they travel over the joins in the track....nice vid thx :))
As I said in my post 3 years ago,I've only ridden the one in Winter Park and its cement. The others I missed in Colorado or they added the metal ones later as I rode the one in W P in 1992.I finally rode a alpine coaster in Deep Creek in Maryland last fall and my hubby went faster than I did!! I didn't like the drops ( too hilly ) but it was fun.I would have loved to have rode the coaster in Glenwood Sprgs,Col.but it wasn't there in 1992.We did swim in the giant pool tho.:)
This is the Daddy of Bobsleds. I did it in 2007 without brakes, it was scary! Was the sign still there saying ride at your own risk as they had no insurance for it?
This alpine bobsled reaches the max speed of 87km per hour! can't say how amazing and fun it is! I would say it's the funnest roller coaster I've been on! though the prices are a bit harsh it is all worth it!
Wow marekmazurkiewicz! I rode the sled, I shot the video, it's my son and his girlfriend in the video, and my voice in the video as I ride the sled down the track. I'm also the person who kept the brakes firmly held OFF as they default to ON. At the bottom I had a long conversation with the owner (not shown) who has also ridden the sled without brakes. Where were you???? Were you hiding behind a bush? Were you running along beside me? I just don't recall you being there...
Good guess! I just discovered this ride is 1.2 km long so my average speed was around 56 km/hr. Since I started from 0 and accelerated all the way I must have been doing over 60km/hr by the time I got to the bottom. Wheeeee...!
The gun shots are actually the sound of the slide frame contorting from the weight of the cart going of the cracks and joins, it's simply sheet metal bending and crackling. I know mah shit.
ahahaha just as so many have stated ..the owner was going off his head and banned at least half of us "FOR LIFE" everytime we went lol ..late 80's - 90's even, I worked at The Churches Centre site and alot of us would thrown in a bit of spare change each and go up there by the bus load. I cant tell you how many times we actually came off it at speed. I can say amber refreshments dont help with control but certainly help you to not let the brake engage ; )
@halolord01 They have a new alpine coaster at Attitash,NH,not the metal slide. The closest alpine coaster to me is in the mountains of Md.( Deep Creek Resort ) which is near Pa.too.They have the rides here at YT.
this is kinda like the luge in my country (NZ) except its not really an alpine slide. more like a long downhill concret slide thats wide enough for you to pass the slow people who go on the fast lane and end up going slower than a snail.
That is fast, probably between 30-40 MPH.The metal tracks are faster than the cement ones.I don't think there are any metal alpine slide tracks in the USA,all are cement.I've ridden the two longest ones in the US,Atitish in NH and at Winter Park in Colorado.
@thehacksrule Nope, no brakes, lotsa noise of all sorts but none from the brakes. I held the brakes firmly off the whole time. Please see earlier comments below.
@snafuedem Lol! Someone knows how to speed up their video in an editing package. ;) Sweet shots with your GoPro though, I'm thinking of investing in one.
I confirm...it can be done...a friend have done it a while ago...but was asked to leave by the owner because he was going to quickly ...work this out...we just don't go anymore...

we need shit like this in the USA. Man that looks fun.

I had a go on that the other day it was good fun! The only bad thing was the owner with the speaker yelling at everyone. Was he there when u did this?

this looks like so much fun. I've got to find a place to do this soon.
hello from 10 years ago, did you eventually do this
Wow marekmazurkiewicz!

Where were you????
Were you hiding behind a bush?
Were you running along beside me?
I just don't recall you being there...
Those metal tracks look sweet to ride! I've only ridden the cement & fiberglass tracks. I'm jealous.
are you still jealous 11 years later

@TV4Jesus I found a metal apline slide track in Park City,Utah.I guess its not that old as I was in that area in the early 1990's.
ahahaha just as so many have stated ..the owner was going off his head and banned at least half of us "FOR LIFE" everytime we went lol ..late 80's - 90's even, I worked at The Churches Centre site and alot of us would thrown in a bit of spare change each and go up there by the bus load. I think if i ever got to do this, i would ride like a suicidal maniac
@halolord01 They have a new alpine coaster at Attitash,NH,not the metal slide. The closest alpine coaster to me is in the mountains of Md.( Deep Creek Resort ) which is near Pa.too.They have the rides here at YT.
@300491rye Humm,what town?I've been to S D.Got a link for that I can see?I think I've seen a cement track one in S.D.online.
Yep, Australia, outside Canberra. :)
We have a couple metal track slides. I like the one in Breckenridge the best.
but it's concrete track.
this is kinda like the luge in my country (NZ) except its not really an alpine slide. more like a long downhill concret slide thats wide enough for you to pass the slow people who go on the fast lane and end up going slower than a snail.

Australia?
Hang on I Fell Out of my chair on a Banked Curve !
@HattieLovesCattie Yeah its on my channel sorry it was cut short my camera ran out of memory
@bensikora3434 Post it here on YT or its already here?
they obviously used brakes around 1:14. you can easily see them slowing down
Awesome, most don't go this fast or people are too scared to push it to the limit.
i went on the longest in the world and yes i did break but as little as posiible (of not you would fly off :P )
@snafuedem Ok, thanks, sounds fun. :)
But I thought you said there were no brakes, thats the title
i heard the brakes being used like 3 times
@thehacksrule Nope, no brakes, lotsa noise of all sorts but none from the brakes. I held the brakes firmly off the whole time. Please see earlier comments below.
HHHOOOOOOOOLLLYYYYY SHHHHIIIIIIT!
@HattieLovesCattie i think they just made one up in attatash
@snafuedem Lol! Someone knows how to speed up their video in an editing package. ;) Sweet shots with your GoPro though, I'm thinking of investing in one.
@HattieLovesCattie WOHOOO COLORADO!!!!!! haha i have a vid of me on those slides
I can hear guns too lol
I just did this with my 5 year old son, no brakes, we flew off about 2 thirds down. Do not do this with a child! - _-
Magic mountains one is faster i think, and i also hit the top of the curve on it
Ohv, Wahh!
it says it right in the title -_-
I confirm...it can be done...a friend have done it a while ago...but was asked to leave by the owner because he was going to quickly ...work this out...we just don't go anymore...
breaking WAAAAAY to early
