    Wayne Kelly of Kelly’s wheel exchange in Pittsburgh PA used one of these back in the 80s to straighten wheels for the BMW club of America ..Wayne was heating a magnesium wheel with a torch, but he wasn’t making it as hot as he usually did on aluminum wheels. I asked him why he wasn’t heating the magnesium wheel up.Wayne said as he pointed to the river outside his shop window, If you catch a magnesium wheel on fire, all the water in that river won’t put the fire out...

    There is a fault in your machine. When you press a dent it pulls the whole body in the same direction. To solve this issue you could have to place a jack or some adjustable bar in the opposite direction from the center bar to the inner side of the rim.

      They offer a main shaft support attachment that does just that.
      Their flaw is it’s on the ground & you have to mount the wheel, then flip the wheel & then sit on a stool & kill your back. That’s just a couple of the flaws. May work well etc but it really isn’t user friendly in the least.

    Hitting a rim with a hammer is not the right way. You are illustrating the use of hydraulics to push out a low spot. You should also use hydraulics to pull in a high spot.

      6700$ US, you could build it for $500 probably. I cant get over how terribly overpriced this "machine" is, its a frame that holds a wheel and a few porto-powers

    Oh! using a metal hammer ouch!

    • @davidd4677
      @davidd4677 6 лет назад +4

      Black Prince it's a lead hammer so the wheel will dent the hammer before the hammer damages the wheel. Wire wheels that are most often found on custom cars/lowriders these days that have the knock off spinners use lead hammers to avoid damaging the metal when tightening the wheel to the hub.

      @@davidd4677 What about the paint coating???

    • @davidd4677
      @davidd4677 4 года назад

      Phil Feldman As far as paint would go, I wouldn't hammer on a new wheel but if it's already damaged then it's not going to make much of a difference since it'll have to be repainted. Powder coating would hold up much better but even that's going to have it's limits. Again, on a damaged wheel it wouldn't be a big deal but on a new wheel, probably no bueno.

    • @jeffries848
      @jeffries848 4 года назад

      Phil Feldman Also keep in mind that most bends are on the back of the wheel so even if you do damage the finish you won’t be able to see it once mounted.

    Who ever designed this machine isn’t all that smart.
    Guy is missing the key thing which is a brace for the counter support.
    With out a good brace, this thing is a good machine to fuck up your wheels beyond repair.
    Good luck.

      They offer a main-shaft support, who knows why no one uses it. On minor bends it may not be needed, who knows. lol

    Pretty crude setup. "Looks good" is not enough. Put a dial indicator on that thing and see how it looks.

    • @riccello
      @riccello Год назад

      Ah, I spoke too soon. They do put a dial indicator on it. Still, the wheel needs to be supported from the bottom and underneath the lip.
      Also, the pressure point needs to have roller bearings so the wheel can be rolled around.

    • @carmo9693
      @carmo9693 5 лет назад

      Not saying he did a great job, but if he pushed properly and did not over push in my experience, not a rim failed to the extent of any kind of accident. As it is always recommended to replace a rim, it is the cost of replacing all of them due to potholes every season. I did see brand new rims split with a run flat tire installed when you hit something that hard to split a rim it is time to take responsibility on your driving skills. I have seen welded rims re-crack on the welds, always replace a cracked rim.
